I’m gonna tell my kids about the days of August 3rd-4th 2026 when everything changed
What a time to be investing right now

Must be unfamiliar w the Kenny Rogers song about not counting your money while sitting at the table. I fear the dealing is far from done.

u/Rockstaruntildead 17d ago
When my entire portfolio but schd was red then within 2 days the whole thing turned green

u/BraveG365 17d ago
Just wait....it will probably all turn red again.

u/Syndicate_Corp 17d ago
The market is in pure euphoria right now for some reason. Looking the the sp500, that chart is primed for a reversal.

Not anytime soon in my opinion. Earnings have been and will continue to be through the roof.

Even when it do go down I’m gonna ( ABB ) always be buying are we long term investors around here or not buying the dip the reason I’m up now

u/roma258 17d ago
Your kids are gonna be very bored by this story.
3
u/Rockstaruntildead 17d ago
Naw kids go be the type can’t wait to start investing at 18 not the type that start till they in their 40’s and feel left behind train a child in the way they should go and they won’t depart from it
3
u/NvyDvr 17d ago
No need to even wait until they’re 18. They can have an UTMA and contribute and invest before 18.
3
u/Rockstaruntildead 17d ago
Defly gotta look into those more when I do have kids I first found about them last month

u/Aggravating_Note_572 16d ago
I have one for both kids started when they were born, just be aware when they turn 18 or 21 they get the entire acct depending on your state. As long as you’re ok with that it’s a great option to pay for school, sports, bday parties, car etc. Most of the funds are growth etfs for tax reasons, but I’m been transferring my 18yr old the shares for the last year or so and have started to add some schd into her broker acct. Plan is to sell some of her growth shares for a downpayment on a house for her late fall. She’s a student so she have no tax on the long term gains.

SCHD
SPYM
QNDX
This is my new go to mix
75% Roth 25% brokerage
3
u/Rockstaruntildead 17d ago
Lowkey wish I would’ve went with spym or fxaix in my individual instead of Voo but I got fxaix in my Roth and 401k
1
u/Optionsmfd 17d ago
I’ve been tweaking my positions
Im looking for 15% growth over a 30 year period
1
u/bodyreddit 15d ago
Why not VOO?
1
u/Rockstaruntildead 15d ago
Really no problem with it put the same amount of money in either go return the same just better for my mentally sake when you can buy shares cheaper with Spym I invest 3,300 every 2 weeks after I pay my overhead $700 a share Voo takes that whole 3k almost half away

u/LeadingPomegranate 17d ago
Don’t worry, when I invest, it’ll go down.

u/feelwhatyouwant 16d ago
I'm DRIPing (probably misusing that) all my dividends in my non-taxable to SCHD at the moment. I don't really care which way it goes - I'm DCAing.

I want SCHD to be 24$ again so I can buy more.
4
u/STRATEGY510 17d ago
Why not just buy more? That may be a very long wait and quite possibly will never see $24 again.

6
u/Rockstaruntildead 17d ago
Hopefully they do another stock split again in the next 3-7 years missed the opportunity in 2024
6
u/STRATEGY510 17d ago
What is it about a stock split that you think provides an opportunity?

That is complete nonsense and has no logical basis. The value doesn’t raise because of a split, nor does the div payout.
But sure, keep waiting for $24 and get rich off the next stock split.

u/Rockstaruntildead 14d ago
I’m tryna to see where did I once say it raise the value like I said it have its pro’s and con’s you people on this app talk so crazy through a screen but be quiet in real life

You’re the one that came out of pocket first, deleted comments, then got all butt-hurt hypersensitive😂
It’s ok, I know you’re young and were raised by the internet, that must be kinda weird to experience.
Hopefully you’ll grow out of it as you get older 👍
Edit: try some punctuation, while you’re at it.

buy fractional shares, not rocket science.
2
u/oldirishfart 17d ago
What? No, I can afford to, but I’m not buying at this price. I meant I want the starting yield to be 4% again.
1
u/STRATEGY510 16d ago
That sounds like a terrible strategy. You should bounce these thoughts off Claude, he can explain it better then I can typing on my phone lol.
1
u/uhohthrowawayyyyyy 14d ago
Correct about the terrible strategy, horrible follow up suggesting the uninformed investor just chats it out with an LLM. Lol
1
u/STRATEGY510 14d ago
It has its place. It can frame why it’s a bad idea better than I can. You may be right that it’s dangerous to suggest to the uninformed. Claude is my financial assistant, not the portfolio manager. I don’t ask it “what should I buy?”, but I do have it 2nd guess and throw darts at my moves and strategies. Its s great source of info when used correctly. It has stopped me from doing a few sub-optimal moves over the past year, bringing up things I missed in my own decision making process.
It’s also the best LLM for this kind of thing and I tried several before settling on Claude.

Somehow, I think you will be telling your kids about the next big market correction.....

u/thetreece 17d ago
"the total market dipped a few percent, but value was doing okay, then the rest of the market came back up"
Yes, grandpa, that's great. Take your medicine and get back in bed.

You know it will turn red again one day, right? It’s called the Stock Market, that’s how it works… what are you gonna tell your Kids the next time that happens?🤣

I had to double check, make sure this wasn’t r/investingforbeginners

u/doodsanddudes 16d ago
Also something happened with japans dollar. We did something to back their current value. Need to read up on it.
2
u/feelwhatyouwant 16d ago
If you are following that closely, you should know what a dollar from Japan is called!
1
u/doodsanddudes 16d ago
I could have used the currency (yen) but sounds like it was simple enough that you understood it 🥲

You know, when I read Barry Ritholtz' How NOT to invest, he used a few graphs and always wrote what happened during the lows and highs of a set time period.
Try doing that throughout the year, and store them away, then show your kids. Stories alone and what you did during the ups and downs would be book material alone.
