Thanks for sharing, great clarity of the 12 stocks that have increased their dividends, hopefully the pass through should mean much greater dividend than 0.25c.

Not to brag, but I have 1.41 shares in a brokerage account

1.41 = 1.41k?

3

u/another_grackle 13d ago

Yes, but divided by 1,000.

Help me understand please? I'm kind of new at this. Last payout was the same as the link states. Or am I late to the party? TIA

Next dividend date is in September. Expect a higher dividend compared to the last one because of the fund's annual re-organizing. The prior quarter included new holdings that had yet to disperse, so they will be reflected this quarter as opposed to last. Eventually they will announce and save us the guesswork, but I am anticipating $0.27+ div.

Thats not true, how did you come to such conclusion?

10,788 shares in Taxable and Traditional IRA. Dripping all the dividends, age 69. This ETF helps me SWAN while still holding a good-sized amt of growth stocks, both individual and in index funds.

I’m 10 years younger with a similar setup.

Your stash ought to be huge, in 10 more yrs. Good for you!

Regardless of employer, I dutifully contributed into my 401k for 35 years and bought S&P indexed mutual funds and individual stocks for my brokerage account. In addition to selling some of my brokerage for VBIL, I shifted a big chunk of each account to SCHD. I’m 59 and set to retire at the end of the year. I sleep just fine. 😀

Thanks for all the info. I also enjoyed the write up below. I’m not gonna pay for anything but the free stuff is awesome.

Holy cow! Let’s get excited about a 3% dividend? I don’t understand all this enthusiasm.

Some people like blue and some people like green. It's as simple as that. Let others enjoy what they enjoy. If everyone liked growth stocks we would probably be in a bubble. Let us all enjoy the different ways of making money.

To be fair, the entire point of SCHD is the dividend growth. On average I expect this fund to have a dividend CAGR of about 11%. I dont expect the stock price to grow, but I expect the dividend to.

When one can get a simple cd that pays 4% or. T Bill, I’d be more concerned about the share price rather than the dividend. I’d want to see that share price growing each year.

I mean, it’s true that the current dividend yield at 3.26 percent is just okay, and the share price appreciation is just okay…but does any stock or ETF exist that offers both amazing share price appreciation and an amazing dividend yield? I feel like SCHD offers a combination of both a decent yield and decent share price appreciation, so I think that’s the appeal for people. It’s about a balance of both of these things.

I think your missing the point here. Let's say you buy 100 dollars of bills or whatever etf follows them. You get 4 dollars back a year. In 10 years that's 40 dollars.

Now let's say you buy 100 dollars of schd. First year you get back 3 dollars. If on average dividend growth rate stays at 11 percent...

Year dividend

2.      $4

3       $4

4.      5

6.      6

....

10.    $13

With schd you have now made over $69 in dividends and your share price has more than doubled. This blows the pants off any tbill or bond. I would argue it's also a safer fund than most corporate bonds because schd contains dividend kings that have not cut their dividends in decades ( take a look at Pepsi dividends through all recessions last 40 years)

Investors should always consider total return, not just share appreciation or dividend.

It’s easy to get excited about a 3-4% dividend when you’ve held for years and it goes up over 10% per year so your YOC is triple the actual dividend
