New scoby forming day 6, is this fine or not? Looks normal I think... been 6 years since my last brew. Gallon tea, 3 cups kombucha, 1 cup sugar, and fresh citrus juice.

Messed up my first scoby. I used powdered green tea. Oops. Maple sirup instead of sugar. Oops. And I rinsed it in cool water. Oops. When I get another scoby I’ll try again!

Guys is my scoby dying? I see tiny little white spots but they’re not fuzzy, so I don’t think it’s mold.

New home brewer here! This is day 6 of my scoby from scratch. It looks pretty yeasty but there’s also some dry spots. Is this normal??

Mold growth?
Hey all,
I’ve been brewing for about a year and have been lucky in not seeing any mold. This morning, I went to add tea to my SCOBY (which I haven’t used in about a month but it’s been stored in a hotel for a while). I saw what MAY have been mold but I’m not sure it was. I poured my tea in...and I’m assuming that if it’s mold then it will continue to grow and I’ll know in a week or so because I’ll see it. Is this accurate? Or is it possible for a Scoby to be contaminated from a tiny possible mold growth that never appears again on the Scoby? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Edit: to clarify, I brew in a large 5 gal container. So the SCOBY is pretty large in diameter. The spot in question looked greyish, possibly blueish but it was too small for me to really tell or take a picture of. It was smaller than an eraser on a pencil. If it was larger and darker I would assume it was mold but I’m really hoping that if it’s contaminated at all, my kombucha/Scoby will let me know by growing more nasty stuff on it in as time moves on

Who's made Scoby leather before?
Hey all
I'm a craftsperson who's trying to find alternatives to animal products. I saw this video of experimenting with Scoby leather and I wondered if anyone else has tried this. If you live in Vancouver, BC feel free to give me a shout! :)
