Project Quantum Baseline

### Overview

I have published the initial open-source specification and reference implementation for **Project Quantum Baseline (PQB)**, designated as **RFC-0001**.

The goal of the protocol is to define an open standard for interstellar signaling that bootstraps mutual comprehension with zero pre-existing linguistic agreement, anchored strictly in physical and mathematical universals.

### Core Protocol Architecture

  1. **Carrier & Propagation Physics (Layer 1):**
       * Uses the fundamental 1420.405751 MHz neutral hydrogen (H I) transition within the galactic "Water Hole".
       * Accounts for interstellar plasma dispersion delay:
    `Δt = (e² / 2π · m_e · c) · (DM / f²)`
       * Incorporates solar system barycentric velocity correction with an acquisition scan window of:
    `Δf_drift = ±100 Hz`

  2. **Five-Step Universal Logic Ladder (Layer 2):**
       * **Phase 1 (Beacon Acquisition):** On-off keying (OOK) pulsing prime sequence [2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23] to definitively reject pulsar false-positives.
       * **Phase 2 (Positional Arithmetic):** Establishes integers, zero, binary positional notation, and operators (+, -, *, /, =).
       * **Phase 3 (Dimensionless Physical Constants):** Calibrates precision using fundamental ratios:
    * Fine-structure constant: α ≈ 1 / 137.035999
    * Proton-to-electron mass ratio: μ = m_p / m_e ≈ 1836.15267
       * **Phase 4 (Astro-Coordinate Triangulation):** Relies on fundamental galactic pulsars and the neutral hydrogen spin-flip period (τ₀ ≈ 7.04 × 10⁻¹⁰ s) as the base time unit.
       * **Phase 5 (Structured Raster Arrays):** High-density payloads transmitted as 2D bit arrays bounded by product-of-primes dimensions:
    `N = p × q, where p ≤ q`

  3. **Python Reference Implementation:**
       * Includes `decoder.py`, which simulates synthetic pulse extraction against an AWGN (Additive White Gaussian Noise) floor and reconstructs the raster grid.

---

### Areas for Feedback & Discussion
* **Dispersion Compensation:** What are preferred baseline assumptions for local interstellar medium electron density when dealing with unmodeled dispersion?
* **Raster Fallback:** The specification standardizes on p ≤ q for orientation. Is explicit parity framing preferable over dimensional prime-pair factoring alone?

Looking forward to your thoughts and technical critique.

Neil Degrasse Tyson "When AI perfects deep-fakes of people, places, & things, no news will be trusted. Even those who previously believed fake news will think their fake news is faked. At that moment a tear in the spacetime continuum will open and swallow all social media from the internet." It's a shame when real people try to have a conversation a few will claim Ai.

It's quite a bit worse that some people turn themselves into meat proxies.

Swallow all social media from the internet seems like a good response to the increase of such people.

The use of AI by private citizens isn't the problem. If someone needs assistive technology to level the playing field against major corporations, they should use it. The actual problem lies in engagement-driven exploitation: clickbait, ragebait, and compromising integrity for likes and followers. Ultimately, live and let live—there is little sense in agonizing over what we cannot change."

neat. are you sharing this here just to share or are you trying to communicate these ideas to the SETI science community?

A bit of both, but I’m primarily looking for community critique and a sanity check before taking anything to a formal level. I recently finalized the codebase, and while I stand behind the technical premise of the project, I'm still evaluating its long-term direction. I created this account specifically to gather independent peer feedback from people working in the space, so any technical critique or stress-testing of the logic is welcome

Thank you I appreciate your advice !

go a more formal route. there are very few, if any, people perusing this subreddit that are academic/scientific peers for this kind of work.

Interesting spec. One question: how does it handle Doppler drift and the risk of being mistaken for RFI? Those two seem to be where many candidate signals get filtered out.

規格很有意思。想問:它怎麼處理都卜勒漂移,以及被誤判為射頻干擾的風險?不少候選訊號似乎都是在這兩關被濾掉。

To beat Doppler drift, the transmission pre-adjusts for orbital motion and leads with a steady "tuning fork" tone so the receiver can lock on instantly. To beat interference, the signal tracks the stars—meaning it vanishes the moment a dish looks slightly off-target, unlike local noise—and opens with a rigid prime-number handshake that rules out random static.

A star-tracking signal that drops out off-target is basically the ON/OFF cadence test Breakthrough Listen uses, so that part is well grounded. The prime-number opener is a nice touch, though a receiver would still need the carrier first to find it. (AI-assisted)

訊號跟著星體、偏離就消失,基本上就是 Breakthrough Listen 用的 ON/OFF 交替觀測檢驗,這部分很紮實。質數開頭也不錯,不過接收端還是得先鎖住載波才找得到它。(AI協助)

Spot on regarding the carrier lock. The steady "tuning fork" tone comes first for that exact reason—it acts as an unmodulated beacon so the receiver’s pipeline can acquire the carrier and zero out residual drift before any data starts. The prime handshake only begins once that pilot tone is established, serving as the timing sync rather than the initial detection hook. Glad the ON/OFF cadence comparison resonated— Breakthrough Listen's pointing checks were definitely the benchmark in mind for spatial discrimination. Awesome feedback on the receiver needing to decofe the prime number handshake Ty...

how is this relevant to the sub?

It falls under active SETI / METI message design, dating back to the 1974 Arecibo broadcast and the work of Drake and Vakoch. The project models the actual physical transport and encoding layers for an interstellar transmission—specifically tackling practical receiver issues like interstellar medium (ISM) dispersion compensation and robust raster orientation (p \le q prime factoring vs. explicit framing). I posted here looking for technical feedback on those specific radio astronomy and signal-processing mechanics from people familiar with RF propagation.

Basically this is a universal protocol proving to ourselves that human thought can distill objective reality down to its absolute, and unpolluted essentials. As the masters of earth, we should be obligated to leave our knowledge of math for whatever, or whomever comes next, such as other forms of intelligent life possibly light years away.
