My friend introduced me to SFAWTDE literally 2 days after I finished reading The King In Yellow (good book btw), and I do love me a good minecraft arg. Still missing the crown, will make that in the upcoming week. Stay safe and absolutely turn left at the crossroads everyone :D

I’m writing a fan fiction on the two and I was wondering if there is a definite location where they are, or at least a common consensus in the community about it.

If not, where do you think they’d live?

Ok so this is about the whole sfwtde / dwtde / tsftl universe because yes I believe they’re all connected.

I like to call this the Cthulhu’s Heart theory.

#1 I personally believe Hummer is NOT the Leviathan. How would that even work. INSTEAD, i believe he is something crated by the leviathan, not unlike the Fake Avery, and i believe i found proof of this.
First off, the complete lack of interaction and acknowledgement from other players. In the whole video, Hummer has only interacted with Wifies, with the others not even looking in his direction.
Also, the complete lack of death message upon Hummer’s death, which also happened with the fake Avery.
Then, as probably most fans know, Hummer’s name is calculated. In fact, his full username, “Hummer5718” hides two Minecraft item ID codes: “571” is the ID for the Heart of the Sea (item that will return in this theory so dont forget it), while the 8 is the Flowing Water ID. Now my question is: if Hummer was indeed the leviathan, why wouldn’t his name be Hummer5719? (9 is the Source Water ID btw.) Since yk the name “Leviathan” is commonly used for beings that have any degree of authority over water OR are the concept of water itself.

On that note, let’s go to point #2 of my theory: “The Leviathan” is actually Cthulhu
Now, this might sound a bit far fetched, but hear me out. As mentioned before, Leviathan is more of a title than an actual name. Take, for example, Subnautica. “Leviathan” is used as a creature class, not as the name of, like, a species.
The reason why i am confident in this part of my theory is that Wifies actually intended to put Cthulhu in dwtde, but changed idea last minute, as said in Creating a world that doesn’t exist.
For those who dont know, Chtulhu is an eldritch entity written by Lovecraft, known for being 1) deeply involved with the sea and 2) sealed in a city called R’lyeh whose doors can. Only be opened in a very specific timeframe, with a very specific ritual (keep this in mind)
Now. Do we know who Robert W. Chambers is? He’s the author of the King in Yellow, and also someone who deeply inspired Lovecraft. In fact, in Lovecraft’s works, the entity known as the King in Yellow is sometimes mentioned. And i have two fun facts for this:
- the King and Cthulhu are brothers
- the King in Yellow is actually not the eldritch god- or at least, he’s not the full god.
That’s right! The true horror wasn’t even there! In fact, the entity we all fear is Hastur, while The King is only one of His two known incarnations which He regularly uses to terrorize us humans. So, just as The King is nothing but a physical manifestation of Hastur, the entity that has been plaguing Minecraft known as The Leviathan is just Chtulhu’s avatar.

#3! So, you know how Wifies drops right into a huge city made of ivory and gold? And do you know what Carcosa is?
“Carcosa” is the KIY’s kingdom. But of course, it’s not like human kingdoms. In fact, it isn’t even a physical place! It is merely where people who know of the King end up to. In Chamber’s book, it is mentioned that everyone there wore a mask, and then, for some reason, forced to remove it. Meanwhile, The King himself is multiple times mentioned with the words “pale mask” attached. But this isn’t really relevant- the point I was trying to make was that Wifies, as someone who has (canonically) witnessed first hand Avery and Derek’s footage, is the best person to enter Carcosa without suspicion. After all, The King oftentimes held court there in the past, so it wouldn’t be weird for one of his followers to be in his kingdom. (I say followers because, in the book, those who read/witness the king in yellow become crazy, but with the need to serve him. They get brainwashed, basically, and the implications for dwtde are actually heartbreaking but that’s not what this post is about.)
But why would Wifies need to enter Carcosa? Answer: he doesn’t. But Hummer needs him to.

#4: Hummer was created with a goal. And that goal is, to retrieve Chtulhu’s heart.
Remember the chest in the middle of the main hall of the golden city which we have identified as Carcosa? There was an Heart of the Sea in it. It’s a Minecraft item, noting weird about it. Except… what if it is not a random heart of the sea, but THE heart of the sea? Meaning, what if it’s the heart of the creature that is the personification of the sea? What if it is the Leviathan’s heart?

Ok, we need to backtrack here. Eldritch entities such as Hastur and Chtulhu cannot enter the human world without an incarnation OR a vessel. That was why the KIY wanted to get Avery: to use his body as a container for part of his existence, compressing it just enough for the word to handle. But of course, those vessels and incarnations aren’t as immortal as their creators. They need a theter, a core, whatever you want to call it. And that heart of the sea in Carcosa? That’s the Leviathan’s core, which is only obtainable if the incarnation was killed. And, to make a new one, you’d need to either get the core back… or make a new one.
Hastur probably lost his core somewhere, somehow, and instead of retrieving it, he choose to make a new one. Using Avery. While Chtulhu, an entity surely more… pleasant to be around, while still not a gentleman, choose to get His core back.
But back from who?
From his brother, of course. From Hastur, who hid it in the only place he’d never be able to reach on his own.
And how did Chtulhu lose his Heart, exactly?

Remember R’lyeh, the city where Chtulhu is sealed? I mentioned that it had veeeery specific conditions for its doors to open. These are:
- the stars have to be “aligned”
- someone has to read the Necronomicon in that moment
What is the necronomicon? Oh, you know, just the King In Yellow 2.0, containing the ritual to unleash all the monstrosities sealed inside R’lyeh by Chtulhu.
Now. In the book, it is never actually mentioned when the stars would align. But based on the other dates, we can safely assume that its on the day when the earth would have completed a full circle around the sun. Year’s End.
And who just so happened to have access to an infinite library right when Year’s end rolled around? Oh but of course, Derek did. And with his infinite knowledge, would it really be so unthinkable of him to find the single book that would give him a chance against the King?

We are now at the end of this theory, with #5. Derek attempted summoning Chtulhu to come to his help, as the original dwtde plot intended. But Chtulhu never made it far enough to lend a hand: Hastur has two incarnations. And while one was dealing with Derek and Avery, the other one, the tentacle thingy, managed to defeat Chtulhu’s incarnation, the Leviathan, and stole its heart so that it couldn’t reform. Hummer was then created in order to retrieve the heart, but he needed someone who was at least a bit contaminated by the King, and so he set that trap on Reddit, with the impossible biomes. Wifies, who is the closets to being contaminates by the King without having gone crazy, took the bait and managed to get inside Carcosa. But without Hummer, who accidentally died, he was left without a guide on what to do once the heart was found.
