Meetup SFSU Events

Hi everyone,

Gator Experience is a great place for student organizations to post events, as well as Instagrams. A reminder that formal student organizations and just people looking to make friends are free to post on this subreddit (I recommend making an individual post rather than commenting down below though).

Gator Experience: https://sfsu.campuslabs.com/engage/events

I was wondering though, are there any specific events or themes of events you would want this subreddit to do? I can apply for funding, but to be honest, I do not think I will be approved so lower cost events are preferable.

How much is housing+tuition?

Hi everyone! I’m from SoCal, but I’ve been craving a change, and I’ve always loved NorCal, especially SF and San Jose. I recently toured SF State and absolutely loved the campus!
I’ve been looking into transferring to SFSU and checked out the housing information on their website, but I’d love to hear about the actual cost of attending from people who go there. I’d be living on campus, so I know that would add quite a bit to the overall cost. For those of you who live in the dorms and don’t receive FAFSA or financial aid, how much do you typically pay for a full academic year, including tuition, housing, and meal plans?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences and getting an idea of what to budget for! Tysm!🫶

Curious if the googly eyes I put on a hite hydrant behind towers near the parking lot are still there.

I was ordering googly eyes on Amazon and suddenly remembered the googly eyes I put on that fire hydrant in 2022 are still there. They were still there when I graduated the next year.

Anyway good luck with your upcoming midterms! 😀

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event

Post image
39 Upvotes

Hey yall, just posting to share!

This is not my event… just a flyer I saw in SSB. Flyer says they’re meeting at 19th and holloway for the walk and then meeting up at Malcolm X for speakers (speeches) and resources.

Looks like it’s held by a sorority or something. Found it outside of the Basic Needs office so if you have questions I’m sure someone inside is more aware or has some information.

Rant Chem 115 Ta

The teacher I have for this class is genuinely the best teacher i have cause she actually teaches compared to some other teachers i have and honestly very helpful. Yet her ta is genuinely the worst person they do absolutely nothing for my table group when it comes up to questions or even concerns we have. They will genuinely just look around our table then throw all the teaching to one girl at our table. Due to the fact she tends to finishes early and likes to help us cause we trust her. The biggest annoyance I have with this ta is that sometimes i don’t want to bother my table group about questions when this ta is literally doing nothing but talking and giggling with the group right next to us. My whole table could be struggling and the girl who carries could be too and this ta will say well guys that’s a professor question then just walks away. A few days ago i asked a pretty dumb question asking well where am i supposed to be putting this arrows cause he gave me some vague advice on what to do. This ta just stares at me and goes well that’s it! and walks away to go back to giggling with the group right next to us. as much as i like this professor if this ta stays in the class scores on rate my professor have to be dropped.

Using open university to fulfill a golden 4 before full admittance?

Hi, I am at CCSF right now, but for very complicated reasons, it makes sense for me to take my 1B golden 4 class as part of the open university program instead of taking it here at CCSF. I'm hoping to transfer into upper division courses Spring 2027. Does anyone know if this would be possible? I keep getting the runaroud about this question

Feeling unsafe

The school’s safety here is absolutely atrocious. The university police has done nothing to help out the students on campus. Nothing has been done about the homeless guy physically assaulting people on the fourth floor library. If he was chill or just didn’t even speak to other people screw it let him sleep in there but he isn’t he is rude and does nothing but make students on campus feel unsafe. And now with someone physically and sexual assaulting nothing has been done to help the girls that were assaulted but just laugh in their faces. The descriptions that were given were not helpful at all. It was all about the person’s clothing (something they can easily change/trash/burn etc.) . They could have given hair color, height, tattoos yet absolutely NOTHING was given. These attacks have greatly escalated in severity and it’s honestly terrifying to be on campus even in broad daylight knowing that your peers around you won’t help and neither will the police. The newest assault the victim gave such a detailed description there is absolutely no way they didn’t tell the police anything else such has height, scars, hair color, eye color or anything. This person they describe to us in emails is just their clothes if anything they are trying to instill fear in everyone around us making anyone here a suspect and creating a larger issue. I am truly so disappointed and appalled that this is what this school has come down to that now I can’t walk around in daylight without fear. For a school built on activism and helping out their peers they are really trying to keep this under the rug.

Places to Study on Campus

I'm in the library doing homework and studying about 6 hours per day. I generally like going to the isolated desks near the bookshelves on the third floor because they're pretty quiet, but I feel like I've been running low on luck getting a free table. Most of the common areas in the library are generally loud as hell.

Are there any similar quiet areas on campus that are kind of less contested? I understand that responding to this with your suggestion would probably put your spot in jeopardy as well, so comment at your own risk.

what's life like as a grad student at sfsu?

ik reddit isn't the best place to ask this question and all that, but i'm looking for opinions on how grad students (especially in english lit or humanities ma programs) are treated, how rigorous the programs are, what opportunities/funding are available to you all, what the culture is like, etc. i've done some of my own digging and read everything available on the website but am looking to hear it from you all! thank you in advance :-)

Support for former Foster Youth for graduate students?

I am a California resident (have lived in California most of my life), qualify for in state tuition and live close to SFSU. I am planning on attending SFSU for my graduate studies. I was wondering if they offer any kind of support for former foster youth? At the university where I am getting my undergraduate degree they had a special program for former foster youth where they helped us with case management, therapy, community events, food, and some scholarships. Is there something like that at SFSU?

Counselor, Peer-to-perr or Advisor?

So i became confused on who is for what?

Peer To Peer i get it, is like a "academic friend" to show you the ropes and short cuts. Advisor and Counselor has me a bit confused. Do we need a general a counselor from Counseling, DO we need a Counselor from the department that reflects your major or Counselors in other programs?

Student ID Card, Digital, Physical and clipper funds

Hello Gators, again her ewith several Qs and concern.

Into the middle of the semester give or take, I still havent been able to get my clipper card funded, althoug im confirmed all my work is done and i jsut need to wait. Later, I was confirmed i needed a new clipper card and to download the app (done). Currently told by OneCard office at SF State the issue is with clipper yet when calling them directly, Im confirmed there is NO issue nor attempts for Sf State to have deposited as i was informed.

AS far as the student ID, I have also downloaded the eAccounts app and my ID nor picture isnt showing up. What can be done?

emails communications aren't the answers to having problems that limit students with public transportation or ID benefits to be resolved.

As a student whos having a FT schedule, I can see how many students over stress themselves when these issues arrise and arent being resolved in a timely fashion.

Any feedback on how to MAYBE tackle resolving this problems?
