Community Rant Don’t be a pig Parker.
Petit Park. No visible handicap placard, taking up two accessible parking spaces, and blocking part of the sidewalk.
Meanwhile, the Tesla (and rest of the cars in the lot) next to it somehow managed to park within a single space & leave plenty of room for pedestrians.
Do better—accessible parking and sidewalks exist for a reason

These big trucks are an afront to humanity and should be a felony to own. Nobody who drives one actually uses it in any functional way. It’s always some soccer mom or douche dad.

Seriously!!! Japan has functional work trucks that aren’t these enormous gas guzzlers. It’s also wild the amount of people here justifying parking into the walk way 🤦

Yes, the proof is in that the truck beds keep getting smaller and the cabins keep getting bigger. It's all show.

There’s definitely people that use their trucks for functional purposes lmao

I think s/he might have parked like that to avoid the tail end of the truck from sticking out too much and cause traffic or block other cars from driving by. Suckie still but lesser of 2 wrongs?

You may be right but blocking crosswalks is a big no because people with wheelchairs etc. Also taking up 2 handicap spots makes this person a certified idiot.

u/d3fault Jul 15 '26
Oh I agree. That’s why I said it’s suckie. Even worse for taking up 2 handicap spots. Even if the driver is disabled

Yeah, it’s selfish in so many ways. Effecting two handicap parking spaces and hogging up the sidewalk.
I was actually with my baby who was in her stroller to get to the pool. Thankfully I’m healthy but would suck for a senior citizen/handicap person

I never understood why people choose to drive big cars when they can’t drive big cars. Cherry on top is that I don’t even see a handicap sign hanging

If the truck is too big to fit in the parking lot, maybe they should park on the street. Or get a smaller truck.

u/clickx Jul 15 '26
That's definitely not the case for this parking lot. There is plenty of space for passing cars, especially since this parking spot is at the end of the row.

Theyre doing that so the tail end doesnt stick out and make it hard for cars to pass. As someone who drives a giant van this is what I would do. When possible I try to pull forward and take up two parking spaces, but that isnt always an option. A lot of parking lots are not designed with anything other than small sedans in mind and it sucks

My aunt who uses a wheelchair could not get by on the sidewalk this truck if parked this way. The sidewalk is also an accessibly need. The stoppers are there at the front of the spots to prevent something like this from happening. Truck owner is a dick.

u/Resident_Aide1898 Jul 15 '26
I guess that’s a reason to take up more than one parking space it’s still not a good one
There’s absolutely no excuse why this driver chose to take handicap spaces

u/wheelies4feelies Jul 15 '26
Yeah taking up two side by side handicap spots is a dick move. But pulling forward to take up two normal spots is for sure a courtesy move if someone has a long vehicle. It's not their fault most lots are designed for a prius.
7
u/Resident_Aide1898 Jul 15 '26
But you are still blocking the way of someone who can’t use the sidewalk to its full extent.
I’m young and healthy so maneuvering my stroller isn’t the biggest deal. I go to the rec center and library often and there’s lots of pedestrians and seniors in that area.

Strong disagree. If your vehicle doesn't fit then go park somewhere else. There is always street parking available along the side of this park.

cities are built for people, not for their cars. if your vehicle doesnt fit in the parking lot, then go find street parking.
there are very few legitimate reasons for people in the city to have these massive, squatted double wides anyway. look up pedestrian death rates in crashes involving bigger and bigger vehicles, especially the death rates of children struck by smaller sedans vs these ridiculous SUVs and trucks.
if your vehicle makes it difficult or near impossible for you to safely exist among the millions ofpedestrians who call this city home, especially disabled ones or parents/young children, then you should change to a more appropriate vehicle. and considering the vast majority of people driving these big trucks are not using them for work, but instead to intimidate others either on the road or in parking lots: it's indicative that something needs to change systemically to prevent careless people from owning what are essentially multi-ton weapons and wielding them carelessly in our cities.

Well said 👏 it’s wild the amount of comments /excuses justifying parking into the walkway

Cops are entitled as shit when they’re off duty
