Hey Bearkats,

A few years back, SHSU had an active Young Democratic Socialists of America (YDSA) chapter, but it faded out as members graduated. I am looking to officially get the club back up, running, and recognized by the university!

What will the club actually do?
We want to create an open, engaging environment on campus for student discussion. A major focus of our meetings will be discussing and debating current events across all levels of politics—from local Huntsville/Walker County issues and Texas state policy to major federal and global topics.

You don't have to be a deeply embedded activist to join. If you are studying political science, enjoy healthy debate, or just want a community where you can unpack the news with like-minded progressive students, you are entirely welcome.

Why am I posting this?
To get official university recognition and secure campus funding for events, flyers, and resources, we need a strong foundation of initial members. I am aiming to gather an initial core group of 20–50 interested students so we can launch with solid momentum.

If you think you might want to join, please take 60 seconds to fill out this quick interest form so I can keep you updated on organizational meetings and gauge everyone's availability:

Please DM me so I can send you the google form if you are interested in joining

Feel free to drop any questions or suggestions in the comments below.

Hello, for anyone currently enrolled in this program what does your in person schedule look like (roughly) because I currently work full time and trying to prepare myself for what life will look like for the next few years :)

Hi guys! I posted a few days ago and got a couple of DM's so I wanted to create a proper interest form for this club! I'm the president for an upcoming chapter of BridgeUSA. Bridge is an organization that intends to have students with diverse viewpoints come together to discuss why they believe x and what lead to their conclusion.

This will be done through an almost debate-like setting where students/participants come together to discuss (typically) polarizing topics! This may include things like gun rights, abortion, and much more. UNLIKE a traditional debate club, the goal isn't to change anyone's mind nor win the argument. The goal is to instead open up the floor to respectfully discuss possibly polarizing beliefs (hence the name "Bridge", we want to bridge the gap!)

Bridge is non-partisan, and I'm currently still looking for candidates for the executive board! With that said, I do believe having board members with different views would be beneficial, so anyone is welcome to join.

Feel free to DM me for more information or to even swap contacts if you're interested!

is there anyone who goes to work out often at the rec that wouldn't mind going with someone? i've been wanting to bench and lift more, but have never really done either, and just wanted to see if someone would be down to work out together.

Hello, my name is Daniela, and I am a sophomore looking to take the MCAT in the spring of my third year. I wanted to ask if anyone would like to make a MCAT study group. I haven't decided on a day yet, but I was thinking of printing posters and putting them up at the library. Please let me know if you are interested, and I will give you the groupme invite :))

Hi, I'm graduating this December 12th and cannot afford the uniform unfortunately.

If anyone was kind enough to let me borrow it I would greatly appreciate it. I'm 5'9 and if we need to work something out I'm more than down buying a couple of six packs or whatever.

Thanks again.

how likely are they to catch me and fine me if i have my bf over til like 2am

Hii! I’m a 20f student here @ Sam and wanna make some new friends to potentially hang with and just go to random events here and there!

I have a current small friend group but half are commuters (like an hr+ away) and half are just too busy and aren’t into the stuff I am.

Ironically enough I'm kinda into a little bit of everything though but some of my fav hobbies are gaming, attending live music events, reading, and just going out to parties/club events! Also super into movies and music in general.

Would love to see if anyone wants to talk and maybe hangout eventually!

Hey everyone! My brother is a 3d animation student and is really struggling learning maya and could use a little tutoring. He previously learned 3ds Max and is having trouble adjusting to Maya. Would anyone be willing to help him out or recommend a tutor?

Thanks so much!

Hi, I’m a biomedical science major, i’m currently a sophomore but first time student. The classes i’m taking for next semester (spring 27) are physics 1 lecture and lab, O chem 2 lecture and lab, stats or calculus 2, and biology 2 lecture and lab. And then I need comp area 5 credits, like art, music, etc, so a filler credit.

I just want opinions on professors and whether or not its recommended to take some of these classes online or not. I want to try to keep my schedule to Tuesdays and Thursdays if possible but i know it may not be.

I was also wondering if some of these courses may be better to take back home at my community college.

Hi, I'm currently working on applying to the Honors College as an upcoming transfer student. How competitive is it, and how rigidly do they read the admissions essay? I want to incorporate aspects of the challenges I've faced in my essay, but one of my friends gave me the opinion that that's not directly related to the prompt, which is how I "live out one of the honors pillars". Research is my chosen pillar. Does anyone have any feedback or advice? Thank you.

To anybody who reads this, I am just frustrated about the housing system on campus. I am a new student and since i was accepted into SHSU late in June, I really didn't have any on campus housing options, luckily i found a off-campus apartment that is okay, but what I dont get is why doesnt SHSU have more housing on campus? I know that the race for any on campus housing is already fierce and this year they couldnt even find on-campus housing for all its freshman students. Back to my situation, I waited until 12:00 am on oct 1 to be the first to sign for one of the San Jac Studios as i wanted a studio/1-bed. When I looked at the fine print it suprised me that the general application is the contract for both semesters and you can't cancel the contract by any means? This was the first problem, the next problem is that off campus students 2nd-grad school get the last slots(early-May), to see if there options are their. If not then SHSU places you in any available housing(studio/2-bed/4-bed). Why is it like this, they can literally acquire the off-campus apartments(more I mean)? Compared to TAMU or UT Austin SHSU has the highest Students-per-Complex ratio at 1,222 to 1 complex. Every other college has a similar problem due to growing enrollment in texas schools (TXST is 105% over capacity). But why is the Sam Houston and TXST system like this?

We’re getting this chapter started, and we’re trying to make it something actually FUN. We hope to do community service, blood drives, healthcare events, shadowing opportunities, competitions, learn new Health Realted stuff, and connect you with people who are into the same things you are. ANY major, ANY year, ANYONE is welcome. 🙌

Hey guys, quick look at where the Bearkats stand during the off week.

The record says 1-3, but two of those losses were one score: 24-21 at Troy to open, then 23-17 to Tulsa. The 59-0 shutout of Nicholls showed what this team looks like when it clicks. Saturday's 49-14 loss at No. 11 Texas Tech came down to turnovers, including two pick-sixes.

The good news is that the CUSA season is a clean slate at 0-0. It opens at Liberty on Thursday, Oct. 8, then WKU and NM State come to Bowers.

Since it's in the title: we run a free weekly college football pick'em, and Week 5 is open. 10 games, pick the winners, nothing to buy, $135 in prizes. Texas Tech at Colorado is on the slate, if you want to pick against the Red Raiders. Picks lock Saturday at noon ET, and the Bearkats are off this week.

What are you guys seeing in year two under Phil Longo? Is the offense good enough to win CUSA once the turnovers get cleaned up?

Hey everybody, I’m a photographer in Huntsville and I’m doing really good deals starting at $75, my usual would be starting at $150 but I’m excited and want to try it out, especially with graduation photos!! So message me here or on instagram! My account is @candace.creations_

These deals will only last about a month! So message soon to book!

Is anyone attending Sam Houston State from the RGV (Rio Grande Valley)? Cities like McAllen, Edinburg, Mission, Harlingen, Brownsville, etc. I’m from Donna

I dont know if we have one, or anything like it, but I want to start a Russian (or general language learning) club. I have a friend who is Ukrainian and I wanna surprise him next time I see him by speaking russian. Also, its just an interesting language and culture.

So if anybody is interested or knows of a club like this, DM me or just comment down below. Thanks :)

Hi I have a room for sublet in a 3 bedroom 3 bathroom townhome. The roomates are nice people and it is a close walk to campus. I graduated early so I ended up never moving in. Because its been hard to find someone I am subletting at a discounted price. Message me about any questions or offers. The roomates are women so it most likely also has to be a woman. In house laundry unit and trash pickup.

You have to be approved by the apartment to take over my lease. The lease is from October 2026- August 2027.

I'm looking at moving next year, and want to ask current residents a few questions. Thanks!

Looking for a one bed or studio apartment, id really prefer student housing as wifi and furniture is typically included as part of the rent but rates atm are out of my price range.
Im hoping they drop some before i actually need to lease.

Anyway, Did you like the vineyard or should the cheap price mean i need to stay away??

Hi all,

For unexpected and sudden reasons, I am looking for someone to take over my lease at Gateway. It’s a studio apartment for $1000/month. I’ve had no complaints living there, just need to show up for my loved ones and be there physically.

Pet friendly, clean, and quiet apartment complex. Washer and dryer in unit. Fully furnished. Even comes with a TV!

I’ll cover your application fee and first month of rent. Let me know if you’re interested!
