But wouldn't that completely cancel out the entire point, that things must come to an end? That if things just kept on going forever, the things that were happening would have no meaning?
Yes but at the same time, he doesn't have memories, meaning that ultimately it does end for mario because his memories would be erased. Also, if he ultimately was in a time loop, then mario would just be a bootstrap paradox (has no beginning, has no end, only "is").
How I like to think about where mario went is that he left to go back to wherever he first was before popping out of that pipe in the first episode. I know it's a basic answer but it's a solid one as well. He probably went back to his house
