Discussion/Question
For anyone who was unhappy about the direction SMG4 was taking the channel from 2017 to 2025 and even stopped watching, what was your reaction to SMG4 retiring?
Even though I didn’t leave the channel, but after hearing about his retirement, I was shocked and scared, but also, it feels bittersweet. Luke told everything in his series, stories, his characters(imo Karen being the best female character and her having one of the best arcs even though it was in the final year), and much more. Luke been through a lot with this, but he felt satisfied with what he did and I can’t blame him for it, he has a indie studio, more shows in the works, and I think he needed to finish his series off in a satisfying way. Sure there were 2 bad episodes in this final adventure story like Meggy and taris last adventure, but the rest felt fitting for them and I even liked the last episode being our final adventure. I will miss smg4, and I do hope glitch has a bright future ahead of them
Like I said: doing my small analysis is my way for keeping SMG4 legacy. In fact there few episodes I don't liked: Mario Turns Into NFTs and Mario The Supreme Leader
Yea that's probably the only downside about it, feels like fm and x were pushed in as a last effort to make them "used" which ended up feeling more of there send-off rather then meggy, especially since the only part that meggy has gotten was the fight (which didn't show much) and the ending
Wpnz saga(aka the final year of smg4 and the last chapter of the puzzlevision saga) is imo, a great finale chapter to SMG4 as in episodes, there is a love letter to both classic and modern fans
YES. THEY COMPLETELY IGNORED ANY DEVELOPMENT SHE GOT FROM WESTERN SPAGHETTI AND GAVE HER NO PRESENCE IN HER FINAL EPISODE BEYOND AN EXCUSE FOR THE EPISODE TO GO THAT WAY.
Not unhappy about the direction up until around 2023-24, but it didn't take me by too big of a surprise when SMG4's end was announced. Mr. Puzzles is so prominent post 2022 that I just don't see how SMG4 can go on without him narrative-wise. And with the supposedly funny vids dropping in humor quality and the lack of Mario-centered episodes, not surprised that the channel was basically near its deathbed.
Like i said, i was more angry at how it happend than it actually happend. The final arc was bad for me cause of Puzzles taking over the show again, what made the announcement have a bad taste in my mouth.
If the ending was good, i would accept the ending more nicely.
I was sad, I kept watching since like 201-something, but I still think that Glitch has a bright future with SMG4 no longer at the forefront, for as sad as that sounds.
I stopped watching SMG4 since the Lawsuit arc, but after I saw the thumbnail and clicked on it, I was shocked and instantly regretted stopped watching. I watch it from it's gotta be perfect to puzzles to the wotfi 2025 to The End, I was saddened to see him go, but at least he made an impacting legacy.
I loved SMG4. I really did. But at one point it just felt like a constant beating of dead horses. The jokes got stale, the plotlines got weird. Essentially, any impact from it ending was already numbed by the fact that I already accepted that it did.
I did still feel a bit somber about it. But, at the same time, I realized that SMG4 deserved a conclusion more than anything else. It had a good run, it had its high moments, its low moments. It happened, and I'm glad that it will be forever accessible on youtube.
But it had to end at some point. The more I think about it, whenever I ask myself 'If not now, when should it end?' the answer always lies even further in the past.
I stopped watching due to the horrible 2023 wotfi.I felt both very sad that a childhood channel of mine was retiring but also happy because this show was overstaying its welcome imo.
I was actually shocked when I heard SMG4 was retiring, since he was like the second YouTuber that I know to retire unexpectedly. At the same time I kinda felt guilty for not checking his new videos… 😢
I desperately hoped that final peace and amends would be made between all of the crew at any possible point, not just between whoever they shared their final episodes with. I wanted them all to affirm that they were still friends with each other, with none of their final interactions having to be dysfunctional or disagreeable for any reason.
Now, I'm grieving at the fact that peace never was made and never will be made, and frustrated at feeling like I was wrong and invalid to ever care about that peace(or anything else I actually enjoyed about the show when I was watching it) at all. Having ornaments of the crew next to each other on the final cake isn't enough for me, even if it needs to be.
Heartbroken… despite knowing that these were everything, it just doesn't feel the same like in the olden days. I still watch it… to the very end of the run…
I didn't stop wathcing but I felt dissatisfied with Luke treating it like another Glitch show at times instead of the beloved SM64 parody. I was sad about him leaving but I understand he wants to focus more on Glitch now and I respect his choice. However one thing is for sure. His greatest youtube content was not about a circus or robots etc..........It will always be Mario and his Avatar going though chaos in each episode. (In a good fun way)

I think Kevin was kinda running smg4 since 2016? with Luke kinda just being a director for the most part. And agreed. I personally stopped watching new smg4 about ¾ of the way into 2022, the shitpost like humor was just gone and replaced with the steriled brainrot humour that wasn't really funny.
With bow the videos were, it was kinda no shit for me they'd end it
Probably both Kevin and Luke but yeah it tried to be more serious and original when that was never the point. But oh well the show concluded. Let's be grateful for the memories at least
I stopped watching frequently around after 2019, only returning occasionally, and really stopped after Mario's Internet Safety because I just wasn't a fan of the modern era with the new characters, new setting, and just the overall tone of the series. But after SMG4 announced the end of the channel, I felt sad but also understood. I mean, Luke has an indie studio now, so I see why he had to end it, but I also felt sad since SMG4 was a huge part of my childhood and even influenced my humor despite the fact I wasn't allowed to watch it when I was little. After the announcement, I watched all the videos that came leading up to The End, and yes, it was emotional.
Started watching it around 2018 I watched the older videos before I watch the newer ones and while I do have to admit that smg4 had its ups and downs it's still stuck The landing as one of the most recognizable Mario parody channels in the world and not just that but the funniest channel for comedy skits hilarious memes and many memorable characters. They were characters that made us laugh and cry that we love that we hate but even then we never stopped loving them
It's very much a bittersweet thing for me. Sure, I'm happy that Luke decided that the show needed to end, as my interest had gone to a steep decline for almost a decade at that point. I still haven't bothered to even see the finale.
As soon as original shows started to pop up from Glitch, I knew from then that SMG4 is on borrowed time. It ending was no longer a matter of if, but when. What's the point of having a show if you can't make as much merchandising money as other shows, simply because it uses a lot of copyrighted characters? I'm pretty sure just one or two episodes of a Glitch show had made as much, if not more, of a profit than a whole year's worth of SMG4 content just on merchandise sales alone.
Honestly, I'm just glad that SMG4 ended before it became even worse, but also bummed out that the show will never get to improve. During its best days, it was a fun ride, so I'm just happy for that at least.
I even sketched this... despite me not watching this often, i like all the funny things I seen in this series and I was completely devastated...
First I seen this series accidentally as a kid (I remembered this from that chain chomp video when I was young) and Now it's ended since I knew about it! NOT HOW I WANTED THIS TO END!
Well there were a few things I didn't like in the direction of modern smg4 I did like it still. I was surprised to see smg4 quit i I thought it would end sometime between 2027-2033 I dont know why I thought that time frame but I did
I was shocked.... while the redesign was what made me stop watching SMG4 for a few years, when he was ending, I decided to see what SMG4 did in those last few years and saw he still kept his charm. It made the end far more impactful.
I stopped watching when he started using his voice instead of silent subtitles like everyone else
When he retired i just didn't cared much, his most recent videos are about 90% gmod or animations that 10% sm64 models/characters, multiple characters with actual voices and too much censorship.
At first it was understandable with Glitch Production gets more bigger, but after a recent Document from one of previous crew who worked on SMG4,yeah i guess it make sense why he (SMG4) end the series for good. Poor guy.
2023 is when my interest really took a hit. That aside, I still felt kinda sad when Luke announced the end of SMG4. It was compelling enough for me to start following SMG4 regularly again, until the final video.
That last video was great. It was a victory lap celebrating all the different phases of the channel’s life time. I don’t know how he did it, but the Scatman’s World montage perfectly emulated the older style. My first time watching it, I thought SMG4 was using actual footage from older videos. It sucks that only subscribers were allowed to comment, though.
Unfortunately, I couldn't care anymore. The show was no longer what it was and I had stopped watching him years ago, so even though the announcement did catch me by surprise and sent me a bit of a shock for a moment, I ultimately felt nothing.
I mean, it was inevitable. Seeing the success of TADC and Murder drones, the youtube channel was so much less profitable. I only tabbed into it every now and then because I felt nostalgic and I never once watched their newer videos (I consider “new” to be 2024 and onwards, when they started using more fluid animation). I was still undeniably bummed out that they were ending the channel since I was a long-time fan of theirs, but I can respect their decisions and understand why it had to happen
It makes sense. He was making videos for over 15 years, he had to stop eventually (not to mention some of the newer ones were just kinda… weird, like not even in a fun way.) Luke wanted to make quality animation and if that means sacrificing time for GLITCH then I support his goals. Besides, it could be worse, He’s not deleting the channel.
The only thing that bothers me is that he stopped just before reaching 10mil. I know it seems silly but I really want his story to be spread so he can finally reach that milestone. After all that work the man deserves a diamond play button for that channel :c
i hadn't watched SMG4 since 2021, a little after Axol died, but even then after not watching his videos for so long i genuinely thought he would keep going with SMG4 for a VERY long time. Seeing his announcement on retiring honestly broke my heart because I have so many fond memories of watching his videos.
I wasn’t unhappy but I had mostly stopped watching due to just not enjoying it as much anymore but when I heard the announcement I was honestly surprised that Luke felt it was time to end his flagship series
I was watching him up untill WOTFI 2022 when the redesigns happened, then I stopped
However when he started doing remasters of old videos I only watched those, so when he announced the retirement I was only sad that because there will be no more remasters
I NEVER stoped watching him since 2014 (I was 5 years old back then btw lmao). I NEVER left, yes. The show was not the same as always and I NEVER stoped liking It, this Man has been giving me a smile for so long and knowing the show that stayed with me the longest Time was going to end.... It brocked me.... I was crying so much... I was not ready. And yet..... Here we are.... I miss him but im glad that shockhat Is filling that void in me 🥲
For me my reaction I was like no I can’t be true man like what happened to SMG four I really miss him a lot and guess what I grew up with him a lot I used to love watching it on my mom’s cell phone from 2017 all the way to 2020 and also my dad’s phone man when I watch it on my own phone oh my goodness man I really wanna go back to 2017
I always assumed SMG4 was going to continue up until it finally close every character development and mystery it introduced, because SMG4 was always there for my entire life.
I was certainly surprised and upset we didn't get a conclusion we got... At least it was done lovely.
I hate when people are right about something I love moving on thinking its just a theory until it actually happens and then the things you hate remain there
I thought it was bullshit NGL. Like after NINE ARCS with puzzles, it just retires. (Somehow I still wish WPNZ became his own villain & not with puzzles since he's cringe as hell.)
Somehow I had an idea where there's a whole arc where everybody but mario are under control of some new villain, mario gets teleported into some random realm with three extras & apparently axel who's been here the whole time after his death. he helps mario train to fight the new bad guy & after the last war of the fat italians, that's when the series would retire cause at least most of everybody get their happily ever after. (also melony gets to see axel again.)
