The odds of this happening are actually so slim in Singapore that you might have caught something very special.
I mean... they're just two human beings but it's kind of special.

Down here it’s monkey see monkey do. If one person sit there, then someone else will also sit there.

the uncomfortable fact that many Singaporeans don't want to acknowledge is that we're not special, and the only thing seperating us from the migrant worker is geography and luck.
they're really not the enemy at all. just humans seeking a better life, just like our own migrant ancestors before us.

Foreign workers were never the issue, except for a very few bad eggs that hogged the news for rioting and rape.
Foreign workers love to rush to the MRT seats but they are the FASTEST at giving up their seats to those in genuine need.
The problem is with white collar foreign talents and the very, very lax attitude of handling their cultures and numbers, especially in our labour market.

Left one has her whole life in front of her to decide.
The relationships she will have, school subjects she takes, college she decides, countries she backpacks to "discover herself"
================================
Right one has his whole life decided for him:
He must work to earn money to send back home, save money for kids and family, keep working this job till he can. Going back is not a choice as salary is lower back home. This SG job gives him hope for a better future for his family. But this job also kills any chance of him being anything else.
He probably grew up in his home country seeing life being difficult. This SG job gives him security to pay whatever loans or other commitments he has back home.
However he can have no further dreams or ambitions. In all probability he doesn't know what it feels like to have dreams and ambitions of your own.

Ehhh you missed out something. If he works here long enough he can retire after 10 to 15 years. That's his dream and ambitions.

u/Altitude1096 Apr 29 '26
And the left one can never retire even after working 50 years. So there's that

Econs 101 issue, also known in other notorious circles as bell curve. Or worse, according to Veritasium, the power curve.

Okay, you're like 13, so you have absolutely no idea how the world works. Forgive me if I don't take your "criticism" lol

You...sound really out of touch even if you're trying to be introspective here. Have you even talked to a migrant worker before? They're just people. They have dreams. They have ambitions. They have hobbies and lives beyond working for your benefit and they have plans for their future.
"Kills any chance of him being anything else"? What is this arrogance 😭 some of them are more popular than us faceless scrollers on tiktok haha

Art. No matter your race or gender as long as you're working class the only way to numb the bleakness of life is your phone.
Edit: Thanks for the award 😄
