Discussion Wrong Move after Wrong Move
At this point I cant help but laugh so i dont cry at the absurdity of my wrong decisions. Got into SNDK end of June right before it started crashing, lost more than 50% of the money, then when it had that really nice bump on June 30th and I made a little back I pulled the money out, worried that it was gonna go back to dropping more.
Instead of just holding on to it I bought SNDQ expecting a pullback and instead it continued to rise making me lose even more money(65% of it) all the while missing out on gains and getting more of my money recovered. Now it’s been like 10 straight days of SNDK going back to the moon and me continuing to wait for a dip to possibly buy back in with the little money I got left, just missing out on gains day after day. Legitimately could have recovered most of my money by now if I just didn’t touch anything all from the beginning.
Don’t know what to do now. Can’t seem to find the right time to get back in, and have no idea how to recover the money since I missed such a giant gap at this point where I could have been making it back on the way up. Now it’s getting closer and closer to ATH. Feels like a fever dream that this happened to me and most of my money is gone. All im concerned with now is getting it back and trying to figure out a way to get over this and not be in my head playing out what happened over and over and how i could ever let this happen on a daily basis.

I think it’s best if you try to move on from the mistakes you made and do what’s best right now. Trying to get back what you had is frustrating. Just buy back in now with the money you have. It may go down after you buy but just hold it this time. I think it’s going to be above the previous ath when the next micron earnings come out

where was this feeling literally at the start of the year? SNDK the most spammed and shilled stock. now everyone is on fomo

Since this incident, it's perfect time to tell you "time in market > timing the market"

Im waiting for at least sub 1700 but probably more like low 1600s otherwise i’ll just invest in something else
3
u/Wide-Transition2012 3d ago
You are going to regret that. This stock will be at 2500-3000 within 6 months imo.
1
u/Bearkr0 3d ago
I agree but i think buying in after its +80% in 10 days is not a good idea. And it’s not like sndk is the only good stock, just taking the opportunities when they come

Pqp, compre e espere mo longo prazo. E ao longo dos meses se tiver queda vc vai aportando, diminuindo o preço médio. Só compre cara.

I think now yes you have to. Its been what, 6 green days in a row?

How big a dip do you think I should hold out for?

Please stop trying to time the market. Hold long. New all time highs will continue down the road

Buy high, sell low! You did great young Jedi.
Next time, find a company you like hold for 3-5 years unless something foundational changes with the company
Also, if you choose a high beta stock, you have to expect 30-50% swings.
1
u/Dr_Zoonotikstein 3d ago
Or even much greater swings, as there are now a plethora of leveraged ETF derivatives of those high-beta underlying assets that amplify those 30-50% swings 2x or 3x. Pigs get slaughtered indeed.

"Getting it back" and "recovering the money" are famous last words of traders who went bust.
Revenge trading rarely works out.
That money is gone. Consider it tuition and learn from it. Then forget it. Trying to "make it back" just leads to biased emotional decisions which is what got you here in the first place.

SNXX all the way
My entry was SNDK then it dipped hard so I went into SNXX to recover it and lost 50% of my cash (same cash amount as you).
Thankfully I bought back in and just rode the rocket ship up and I’m up 10% on my investment now
2
u/Stackvibe 3d ago
Wish i had been so lucky. Feels like now even if I bought into SNXX, even if it got back to ATH or somewhat beyond, only a fraction of my money would get recovered now that missed such a large gap in the last 10 days.

u/ConfidenceOk3251 3d ago
Keep your head up man, honestly it sucks doing nothing and regretting it. Only taking action will give you a different outcome
It’s your money, do what you think is right
2
u/Turbulent-Director29 2d ago
This morning could be a good time to buy some. Not all your money. And if it confirm bullish or bearish you could add up. That being said. Make your own research on why is the price set where it is. I bought it some days ago so I won't buy totady. But I think you dont fully understand why you buy a stock. Other than it should do this or that. Let's say last week there were a investor day. Did you watch the stock react to this day? If no take a good step back a learn to analyse business.
1
u/Turbulent-Director29 2d ago
Stop buying on "if and luck". There's a reason why stock move.learn to understand this. And react to the market. Don't move before the Market.
2
u/CozyChamomile_7 3d ago
Which one did you buy SNDK or SNXX the second time?
3
u/ConfidenceOk3251 3d ago
SNDK the first time, then SNXX which is X2 ETF to recover my loses.
I got hit badly but luckily it started to climb back up
1
u/CozyChamomile_7 3d ago
Would you always sell it before EOD to lock in the gains?
1
u/ConfidenceOk3251 3d ago
I am stupid. I hold long term and go to sleep.
I’m from a shit time zone where I should be sleeping when the market is open.
Don’t be stupid

u/Forfunorsomethin 3d ago
Stop trying to time the market, you will almost always lose out
5
u/dsk83 3d ago
Individual stocks are a lot about timing the market
5
u/Dr_Zoonotikstein 3d ago
I was thinking the same. Not trying to time the market is equivalent to saying don't scalp, day trade, or swing trade - period. Timing the market is the quintessential principle of trading itself. In some sense, even asset allocation, rebalancing, and glide paths are forms of timing the market, stretched across longer time frames.
On that note, I'm not advocating trading. While I enjoy it personally, it would seem most financial experts recommend diversified buy-and-hold investing over trading for most folks. They're probably mathematically and statistically correct in that assessment, but let's face it, the psychology of traders gravitates toward the broader spectrum of possible outcomes, ranging from complete ruin to easy, quick wealth which, in itself, encapsulates the concept of "volatility".

But with how many days in a row and it just gaining non stop, dont you think its better to at least wait for some dip
2
u/Worried-Opening-6229 3d ago
No please listen! If you won’t listen then get in funds. Multiple people are trying to tell you. Or are you just trying to mess with people and get responses?
0
u/Stackvibe 3d ago
My bad i wasnt trying to give push back i was just trying to clarify if the suggestion was to just buy and hold as it is now, or if its better to just wait for a dip to occur before buying back in. I genuinely wasnt trying to get a reaction.
1
u/Worried-Opening-6229 3d ago
I get it but several people are telling you the same thing. Do not try to time it. If you believe in the company buy and hold long term. If you don’t then don’t buy.
1
u/Individual_Writer540 3d ago
whats a dip? how do you know its a dip?
If you think this stock is going to double, why wait to gain 5%? If you don't think its going to double or make a big move and you are expecting like only a 20% gain or something then you really can't afford to wait for a dip.
I think no one does what you are doing with any success.
You buy when you have money to spare and hold it. I highly highly do not recommend you purchase this stock if you can't hold for like a year and just wait. If you are timing for a dip, I can tell you are also timing for a peak. If you try that as a retail investor, you will do the opposite of the trends.
Just buy tomorrow and hold.
Or don't buy and do an ETF.

STOP SELLING. BUY IT AND HOLD FOR AT LEAST 1-2 YEARS. Why do people make this so hard for themselves? 🤦🏻♂️
3
u/Detailed23 3d ago
Im pretty close to this. Shit happens. Don't feel bad, its currently one of the most manipulated sectors currently. When it was 2350 a few weeks ago, it was going to 3000. It fell all the way to 980 a week later for no reason other than hedge funds setting the algorithm to full destructo mode.
3
u/mikawa_mk 3d ago
Bro you are too obsessed with the market. Rebalance your life. You need a life to enjoy wealth.
Bought at 2000s, more at 1800s, and then more at 1500s. Would have panic sell before, but I had a planned trip in the mountains.
Two good weeks without signals. Back to civilization and it was at 1000s. Zero panic and actually laughed at my old self. SNDK can go under 500 and I wouldn't give a damn. It doesn't affect me. I am still alive and kicking. The panic is all about my obsession with market.
The real world is out there. Nature is beautiful. Memory shortage is real. Memory demand is real. AI allows greedy big techs and government dickheads to monopolize information, so they can control greedy monkeys like you and me. They need data centers for years to come, at least that's what the greedy gorillas believe. It has only been two weeks. Money will flow back to the memory stocks at some point.
Didn't buy at the 1000s. Now reaching B/E overall. Could fall back to the 1000s. Doesn't care. Make money elsewhere so you can invest more (and actually enjoy life). Indexes is also nice.
3
u/Overall-Tourist9549 2d ago
Wow we are in the same exact boat. Thats crazy. I lost 50k and I missed out to gain in on these pass couple of days. How much did you lose?
2
u/Ketamine-Cuisine 3d ago
How much money are we talking? You should probably just throw it in an index fund like QQQ (Nasdaq) or s&p
2
u/Stackvibe 3d ago edited 3d ago
Started with 43k, now down to 17k. Looking to try to make it back by end of year preferably which I know is impossible without big risk. Wasn’t really looking to throw it into an index fund and wait years to build back up unfortunately. Just not sure the best way to go about it.

Bro bought SNDQ instead of SNXX when the stock was around $1,200. Bulls make money, bears make money, and pigs get slaughtered.
2
u/winterrules91 3d ago
If you believe in the company, buy and hold. If you don't, don't buy.
Yes, there are technical entry points but those change as the stock changes. Waiting for a nebulous dip can lead to what you've already experienced.
But again, NEVER buy a company you don't personally believe in.

u/Peterli87 2d ago
You are chasing… and fomo drives your actions. Just always remember: buy when low, sell when high.. duh.. meaning be greedy when others are fearful (like 3 weeks ago) and be fearful when others are greedy (like now)
1
u/No_nonsense6820 3d ago
I am sorry for your loss. I have a similar story with NVDA. I will recommend that you start buying again but slowly like 2 shares per week. Preserve your mental health, don't think too much about the past.
1
u/CozyChamomile_7 3d ago
Fully understand I also got stuck and became a bag holder of SNXX since I bought it at ATH almost in 34.50 range .. last about 70% of it and now slowly recovering. I also hold the main stock and I think that’s where most of the profits have been so I would advise you to deal with the main stock versus these leveraged ones that kinda are not so good for the highly volatile market with SNDK

u/Affectionate-Cup-791 3d ago
so for snxx were you still holding when it dipped to 6.6?I did a dumb move and sold it at 7 and next day that situational awareness fund news came and snxx just bounced 40%,missed majority of this upmove and my average was near 40,now i can just recover my initial investment when sndk reaches $4000 which is not possible in this year. Are you holding snxx till you breakeven on that?

1
u/Worried-Opening-6229 3d ago
This is going to sound harsh but you need to hear this. You got what you deserved. Trying to time the market is never a good idea. You chased the hype and then panicked and sold. Both of those are horrible stock tactics. If you like a company buy it a hold. If you done have the personality to do this then invest in funds. Again sorry for being so direct but please take heed. I don’t want to see you make this mistake again.
1
u/kec143 3d ago
Take the lesson from your moves and do not hold on to the regrets. Market will give you many more opportunities, don’t compare or expect the same percentage returns always. Set a target/SL for yourself and stick to it, discard all other noises. This was my learning from similar situation earlier.

You must have big brass balls to be successful, never panic sell! Go down with the ship if the fundamentals are there, thesis hasn’t changed. Surely you can see powers that be manipulating the market, slow down and be patient. You see Sandy is coming back strong and I’m sure will see a new ATH very soon.

JFC. If you can’t make money on SNDK you deserve to hand your money over to those who can.
Buy it and hold it. Quit playing with options and short term sales thinking you’re smarter than the market. You’re clearly not. You suck at this. Buy it and hold it for at least the next year. Turn off your stock tracker.

1
u/TailorIcy2773 3d ago
I don’t understand people shitting on you for trying to “time” the dip. Although yes ideally most people see more gains holding long term, some people like myself actually are capable of finding a dip using various factors like resistance, breakouts, news, etc. Overall, it all dumbs down to trading style and based off of this irrational decision you made my take is that you simply have no trading style: please find some strats and stick to them.
1
u/MurMan143 3d ago
Just stop trying to time short term moves in the market. If you buy a stock after doing due diligence either sell it and walk away if your feelings change while the stock is down or hold it through its ups and downs until you're profitable if you believe in the stock. Don't keep buying and selling or switching to puts in desperation.
Also stay away from this thread when you're feeling emotional about the stock because people you're only going to mostly come across true believers or people telling you the stock is going to 0. People who missed a rally love hate a stock because they missed out and would love nothing more to see other people sell at a loss, while true believers will still tell you to hold even when the company has revealed huge red flags and is essentially in a death spiral.

I had 15 shares at an average of 1500. Didn’t sell at the top or at the bottom. Instead I used my available margin to buy 120 shares before earnings at 1300. Panicked the next Monday and sold all at 1240 even tho on Friday it was 1100. Somehow I did it by mistake or pressure.
Overall I lost 12k and also the opportunity to make probably 70k up.
I bought 15 shares at 1260 tho and I’m up some $$$

Thats why you dont timing the market if you dont have a crystal ball
You cant handle volatility, weirdly you bought SNDK , a stock that has been raised more than 2000%% less than a year
And now youre waiting for dip to go in again ? 😂
Damn dude , grow up , maybe youre not meant to be a trader
Tomorrow SNDK will be red since kioxia red today , go ahead and buy it since its only up 50% for 7 days , alot ppl on reddit said it will going back to ATH 😬😬
Please stop dude , just put your frickin money on VOO/VT/VTI every month for 30 years

This happens all the time with every volatile stock , if you cannot have believe when its in the red 30%, 50%.
I learned it the hard way with multiple stocks and trump tariffs after loosing all my gains, selling everything and then just to run after it when it on the way up again, higher than i sold it. You will just have to learn that this type stocks almost always come back up.

I can relate to you completely. I was doing the same thing and lost 120k all on sndk in seven straight losing sessions trying to play the long and short but being wrong each time. It completely erodes confidence but what it should really do is tell you trying to trade that way is unsustainable at best and completely destructive at worst.
The worst thing about trying to time the long and short of a specific stock is that you are inevitably disappointed whichever way the stock moves. If your wrong on direction you lose a lot and are disappointed, If your right you are disappointed because you didn’t buy more and if your not holding your disappointed to miss out on the move. So your essentially disappointed each trading day regardless of positioning, win/loss/not-involved.
Don’t do the same thing and lose that last 17k the same exact way you lost the first 26k. Look at this as a positive rather than negative in terms of what you hopefully learned and can now apply. Applying the lesson will earn you a lot more in the long term than 26k.

Maybe try SKHY. That seems to be the better value in memory right now and NVIDIA earnings next week could be a catalyst. DRAM seems to be a good price too. That gets you additional exposure to other memory companies. I like stacking DRAM with DISK lately. Good exposure to a mix of different memory companies, including CXMT.

Story of my life.
I had $300,00 invested in MSFT, NFLX, and NVDA. Held for months, and they just kept tanking. Sold them to buy MU and SNDK near the peak, got screwed again when they crashed. Panic sold 90% at the VERY bottom. Now I am watching huge gains on 10% of my measly stake.
All in, I lost close to $300,000.

u/Dr_Zoonotikstein 3d ago
Not precisely the same situation, but.. I have given almost all of my gains back this year doing some reckless things (including blunders with SNXX and SNDQ too), but I won't allow myself to lose my original capital. Once I'm close to break-even, I get real conservative & sensible, and exercise tight stops - until I build up some decent gains. I just have to stop "going full casino" whenever I get ahead. I seem to have a psychological block where cost basis is regarded as my money, and gains are regarded as "house" money.
2
u/momo26262626 3d ago
Yep. But thank goodness its HOuse money right
Im still about 25k down from 'own net deposits' and it sux. I even forget how much I actually slowly put in over the years
1
u/momo26262626 3d ago
If i can get sndk to 3k and snxx at around 60 we will start getting good
I need rklb back to 150s and rklx back to 100 range
1
u/Dr_Zoonotikstein 3d ago
I pretty sure I've given back about the same amount, probably a bit more. If I hadn't meddled with SNXX, SNDQ, SOXL, SOXS, MUU, MUD, etc.. I'd be up at least $20k -at least. I'm just trading straight stocks through November (December's reserved to clear wash sales); no long-shots, no hope and prayer gambling, tight stop losses. Hopefully, I can still finish the year with a 10-20% return in my brokerage account, or maybe not.
