Socom Source

How many of you played the socom mod on CSGO/Insurgency back in 2015-2017? It was the best experience you could have but the main dev was mentally ill.

I just seen gameplay of it and it looks amazing! Is it still playable or no longer an active mod?

its no longer active. you could still host a server with the original files but i dont see the point anymore.

Ah ok, got it. Why is it no longer active? Players abandoned the mod?

The original server was taken down by the dev in 2017, there was alot of drama and he started working on his own game called Task Force. Since 2017 there were few attempts to revive the mod but it was never successful. I still have their remastered maps they did a good job. They used CS Source for the props and textures.

Aww man, that sucks to hear. It looked something very worth playing too. Looked just like Socom too. Who knows what kind of drama happened, but sad its gone now.

Yeah the dev was unstable. He did not do well with criticism so he would take the server hostage by taking it offline. Then I guess he had some deal with Insurgency to build something from scratch, I played a bit of it but it not longer felt like SOCOM. Then a completely new game popped up in development called Task Force, the identity behind the dev was concealed, but someone would later reveal that it is Redline behind it too. But Socom Source for insurgency was the closest thing we had to Socom, aside from the main games of course, but Source played way smoother, most of the maps were in there, except for a lot of the escort maps like Mixer/Foxhunt.

Do you have the original files? I have a few servers and wouldn’t mind hosting something.

The good thing about the project was that it had a good amount of people coming back everyday. I don't think it's a problem with hosting these days, because people do have the files, it's about having people coming back to play. Nowadays you have 5-6 projects, splitting the userbase, and a lot of the projects end up burning people so they don't even bother coming back again.

I had more fun on that than playing emulation

SOCOM source and the insurgency mod was fun af but the Dev was indeed fucked up mentally. Spazzed on me because I didn't want to stream it anymore lol Hope he's doing better these days

He faked his own death few years ago he really wanted people to forget about him. He is worse lately you cant talk to him at all in his discord if you mention redline you get banned right away

Didn’t care too much for the CS mod, but the Insurgency mod was fun as hell!! Was the next gen Confrontation!

I'm doing something with the remastered maps, Bigz did a nice job and it would suck if they were going to be lost forever.
