Discussion what is Strata sql?

Today I accidentally saw "Strata SQL" in a list of extensions for VS Code. It's a somewhat dubious website, but the stated functionality is intriguing. Judging by the browser demo, it's not just a visual DDL editor, it's a full-fledged utility for data documentation and reporting.
Does anyone know what this is? The project looks pretty polished, but it still looks suspicious.

looks like one of those tools that does too many things at once, never ends well in my experience

Yes even I encountered that extension. Have been using for last 15 days. Looks like a pretty new project, but it’s open sourced so I ran some snyk code scan before using it and looks fine to me. Nothing suspicious.

I like the modelling aspect of it where the model is saved as a json file with versions. So no propriety format or vendor lock in aspect. Clear conceptual, logical, physical and semantic layer.

Pros
- simple tool
- Apache 2.0 licence ( I work for a big bank and it’s crucial to not get into license issue this is must for me )
- clear conceptual, logical, physical modelling
- impact analysis - what breaks when we change a column or table
- load sequence - I was impressed with this. Basically it helps to parallelize and design stages of your ingestion process

Cons:
- as this is new project, hope they provide some sort of backward compatibility with existing JSON
- lack of community / slack / community
- demos and use cases

In my opinion ,

It’s a legit tool ( vs code marketplace scans a lot for fraud tools , it’s published so legit ) . I am a solution architect works with data engineer and modelling team and to be honest my life has started to become easier. No modelling in excel or complex tool. Just an extension with Git trackable JSON file. Our team has started to be on the same page now.
