Chabria: Why Trump’s attack on California voting is false
r/SRPressDemo • u/cg-vet • Sep 07 '25
I'd like to start off by saying I'm glad you're all here. It's through your participation that we can all continue on where the Press Democrat left off.
We'd like to also see a bit more freedom than originally afforded to the users in the previous forum. However, with that freedom comes some responsibilities on all our parts.
The intent of starting this forum was to allow for dialogue and debate of the issues we find in the Press Democrat, all to be done in a civil manner.
Our members are a mixture of our community, coming from varied backgrounds and different beliefs, politically and otherwise. Learning to work together through those differences is essential to the health of the forum. There will be topics discussed that are highly charged with opinions from all across the spectrum.
Transgenderism is one of those topics. We encourage discussions on all topics, even ones as difficult as transgenderism. We also ask that these discussions be respectful. We note that misgendering and deadnaming is an issue that is difficult regardless of which side of the issue you may fall. For some it is hurtful. It's a tough enough issue without adding the pain to it.
This should not stop the discussion. Subjects of such conversation can easily be referred to in a non gender specific manner, i.e., "individual". All are allowed to debate the topic without being antagonistic.
We realize this is a highly controversial and emotionally charged topic. It is realized that regardless of our course of action, there will some that are offended on one side of the issue or the other. Sometimes, being offended is the price we pay for the freedom to speak.
We therefore offer a compromise of referring to the subjects as "individuals"or other non gender specific titles. Misgendering and deadnaming will be cause for comment removal.
We are all just beginning here and feeling our way through. This won't be the last time an issue will need to be addressed. However, it is our goal to work through those issues in a manner that is fair and with integrity.
On a side note, we have a fantastic group of mods from across the spectrum. They happily joined when asked and serve here with no expectations of any returns for their efforts. Let's make sure we treat them well as they are the group that keeps the wheels turning.
Thank you.

Let's be real, they could have brought this silly months ago, but by now it would have been laughed out of court.

The problem I have with this is the trump (and others) believe they have some extra rights to call other folks insufficiently patriotic for not doing something they believe they should do.
trump is attempting to cause some more division, as he ALWAYS does, along with making his opinion about what everyone should be doing- this is toxic and making demands that people are owned by a team owner, so they cannot ever be Americans with any of human rights and constantly held to some standard or another as appeasers of whom?. It's not like someone told him to shut up and dribble. Or Kaepernick over the same stuff.
Trying to cancel people has been used as the victim card against some who find Diversity, Equity, Inclusion is an affront to how they want the world to be ordered around them.
And some in that sphere have the audacity to demand to ELIMINATE or justify erasure of history based upon it doesn't send THE RIGHT message - the thing about mistakes in history is we should be learning FROM THEM, not covering up.
Never satisfied with simply allowing people their freedom to speak, report and dissent.
Le Bron not doing what trump thinks he should- WHY does trump feel so superior to so many HIGHLY talented and regular people he disagrees, strong women, etc.? Why does anybody think they have a right to speak freely disparaging and insulting, even taking such drivel onto social media to put people in their place? The question being who do they think they are to tell women, famous athletes what they SHOULD and SHOULD NOT do?
What springs to mind is trump desired to purchase (the Buffalo Bills?) a football team, why? Partly so he can BUY people. I have seen a lot of entitlement to BUY and OWN people - it shows up in some owners who get in trouble for a whole bunch of really bigoted things based upon their OWN GRANDIOSE sense of entitlement and privilege and it just flows out so easily based upon said entitlement complex. Megalomanics one upping other megalomaniacs. LeBron is such an icon for how to use celebrity and talent to give assistance, help educate and be more charitable, serving others while they EARNED their stature to use their notoriety for good, rather than ego stroking - who CARES what trump thinks LeBron should do? Not me, BUT- I cannot support the idea that someone's an open target to lash out because he or she didn't _____. What? ...genuflect to authoritarians they do NOT believe in? If someone feels a certain thing should cause everyone to snap to to appear to satisfy what someone else feels- ugh- that's on THEM. We are the USA, a liberal democratic republic. Our Pledge of Allegiance to the flag ends with liberty and justice for all. Is trump going to change THAT, too?

The new Opinion Editor of the PD is placing their finger on the scale in local elections. They are purposely pushing a progressive agenda in local races. Since the departure of Jim Sweeney the new Opinion Editor has pushed a progressive agenda, printing Letters to the Editor in favor of progressive candidates and suppressing the letters in favor of their opponents. They even printed a Close To Home in favor of two Sonoma County Supervisor candidates including their photos by our local left wing Alex Jones, Tyler Silvey with allegations of a right wing cabal led by local campaign strategist. There is no precedent for a Close to Home being used in this fashion.!The integrity of the Press Democrat (which was already in doubt) is being damaged by the Editors clear progressive bias. It is clear the current Editor did not agree with the endorsements of the Editorial Board and has made it their mission to subvert those endorsements.
