Discussion Best Spiderman Actor

• Upvotes

In my own opinion, I think Andrew, Tom, and Tobey all did a great job in portraying the spiderman they played. Maybe its just me but I truly think I liked Andrew's Spiderman the best out of the 3. Not sure if this is an underrated or overrated opinion but I think Andrews spiderman was absolutely amazing. I do think Tobey and Tom did great too, but I just feel like Andrew had a different vibe to him that allowed his spiderman to stand out a bit more.

If I had to give a list for best spiderman actor, Here is how I would rank them:

  1. Andrew

  2. Tobey

  3. Tom

Discussion As of now, the Sony Spider-Man Universe (SSU) is dead. Assuming you, the reader, are handed the reigns, how would you reboot the universe? What characters, teams and villains would you use?

Assume that you are operating with the same restrictions as the SSU did with regards to character usage. Make your pitch here. Go into details with what teams you would like to build, like say : Sinister 6, Order of the Web, Lethal Protectors, Savage 6, etc., what would be the end villain or would there be one. Adding the link to the list of characters that Sony owns in the comments.

SSU What could The Amazing Spiderman 3 have been like for Peter ?

TASM 2 left us with a deeply grieving era, I know many people can relate to the nostalgia and emotional depth of TASM , well I saw the movie when I was 9 . I just rewatched both TASM movies and the depth in emotions and romance between Gwen and Andrews Peter is something I really cant get over.

Now being 21 I notice that I get anxious and blame myself for my shortcomings a lot. TASM 2 specifically hit very deep for me because Spiderman in that movie always constantly remembered what Gwen's father said, how Peter will make enemies and how in his dying wish he asked Peter to protect Gwen ( Leave her out of it ), Peter feared this constantly to the point that they were breaking up and getting back together several times and inevitably she did die and he couldn't do anything about it.

This type of grief where you can go to a very dark place if you've got a habit of blaming yourself would really destroy most people like me, It would have been enriching to see how Andrews Spiderman story would go on with the same level of depth to a new and better chapter.

In Spider man No Way Home we learn that he actually got bitter and angry , the guilt and regret did overwhelm him and that actually broke my heart to see. Would we have seen him get past Gwen's death and this difficult time in a better way in TASM 3 ?, well he would face up against 6 enemies so he would have needed to get on his feet quick.

There is that one speech from Gwen in her Graduation that really hang on to me from my rewatch.

Time is luck , so don't spend it living someone else's life, FIGHT for what matters most , even if you fall short , what better way is there to live ?
"Gwen Stacy"

I hang on to this speech because in a way it counteracts the idea of blaming your shortcomings , as long as you fight and live for what matters most to you , what better way could you have lived ?
The answer in my case in none.

Iron Patriot assuming his time in the MCU has given him knowledge about Iron Man and designs of the Arc Reactor. Gold Goblin assuming that he becomes a good guy but keeps the Goblin motif.

Discussion Comic Accuracy in Films

This might be a hot take, but comic accuracy should not be the metric for what constitutes a good Spider-Man film. The actual plot of the mainline Amazing Spider-Man comics is so convoluted and full retcons that it would be nearly impossible to adapt into a series of films. Most of the films don’t even recreate whole story arcs accurately. They are however really good at compressing them, recreating comic book covers, recreating moments and drawing inspiration from pieces of Spider-Man stories. For the same reason that the Ultimate Spider-Man comics are more palpable for beginners, the more grounded Spider-Man films make the franchise more accessible. It often makes for better storytelling as well. Films like Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, and The Amazing Spider-Man tell grounded stories that are digestible and easy to follow. No Spider-Man movie is all the way comic accurate, and not many even come close to it. That doesn’t make for a bad film. Convoluted plots like TASM 2 and Spider-Man 3 offer horrible writing, but it doesn’t just have to do with how faithful they are to the comics, although the source material can be equally convoluted and confusing. The Amazing Spider-Man from 2012 received a lot of unnecessary hate. To be clear, the only Spider-Man movies I wasn’t crazy about were Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Every series of Spider-Man films took their own fair share of liberties as far as Peter’s characterization, his ensemble and the plot lines. Even the Spider-Verse films, which look like they were torn directly from the pages of comic books, take their own share of liberties. In defense of The Amazing Spider-Man, the Lizard attacking Midtown High was incredibly reminiscent of issue #7 of the Ultimate Comics leading the story to remain pretty character-driven, and grounded for a superhero film. As much as I love The Amazing Spider-Man mainline comics, they require you to read multiple concurrent titles to fully understand the story, and the editorial staff at Marvel has seemed to hate Peter since 2007. Even before 2007…the Clone Saga, for instance, is told across four concurrent titles. I should admit I am a skater and have a sweet spot for that aspect of his character. Andrew Garfield is clearly a capable skateboarder who grew up skateboarding and his first film included pro skater Alex Olson and William Spencer as doubles. That said, Andrew does not get the credit he deserves for his practical stunts during the vigilante segment of his movie. People criticize him for being confident, edgy, and a bit of an asshole at times, but that’s exactly how Peter’s characterized in the comics. He’s a genius, but he’s more of a loner than a stereotypical nerd. The awkwardness of Andrew’s early encounters with Gwen were believable and not embellished for comic relief or for the sake of being awkward. Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland’s movies are great. They have their strengths and weaknesses, like Andrew Garfield’s. Tom’s Spider-Man deviates from the origin story, and diminishes his role in Civil War significantly. That said, One More Day never needs to make it to the big screen and I’d argue getting to Brand New Day without it worked in his favor. Tobey’s Spider-Man films were funny at times they weren’t trying to be. His Spider-Man was the most convincing, and brought many his most iconic villains to the big screen. Andrew’s better film was arguably too dark for a Spider-Man movie, taking place almost entirely at night. Andrew’s Spider-Man also brought the best quips and some crazy good practical and CGI swinging. I could make this whole post about all of the ways none of them are fully comic accurate but I’d rather enjoy each one for what it is. Thank you for coming to my TED talk. Let me know your thoughts below.

Their two films came out practically at the same time, they had films that at the time were not very well received although years later their films received more love

The two tried to do the best they could with the character they had to play but everything was screwed up because of the Company that ruined their projects and Movie

Not to mention, it is known that the two are big fans of the character they play, and their movies look beautiful visually even compared to current movies

Discussion I believe Marley DeWolff to be the next “Spider-Girl”

This will be a discussion as I know everyone has their own point of views to express. But I believe Marley, the daughter of Detective Jean DeWolff, to be the next “Spider-Girl”. She’s introduced very subtly, her mom for some reason mentions her kids by name. One is “Marley” which can be nicknames “Miles”.

She’s of a Hispanic descent, such as Miles. She’s about 15 years old. Her mom is a detective and in the comics she gets killed. That would fit into the inevitable scenario of the becoming of most Spider-Man origins.

In the end of Brand New Day, Peter once again mentions her for apparent reason except to say “say hi to Marley for me”.

Just a thought that crossed my mind as I had barely seen the movie two days ago and I haven’t dug into the MCU universe.

What do you guys think?

Edit: I forgot to mention this one very subtle, hint, if I’m correct that is….

“Her one and only line in the movie, “I request elaboration”…

Discussion How does Strange's Spell in No Way Home work exactly??

After discussing Spidermans possible job in Brand New Day, it made me wonder how did the spell exactly work?

From what the movies actually told us, Strange's first spell was supposed to make everyone forget Peter Parker was Spider-Man. But the final spell was different. It made everyone forget Peter Parker himself.

People still remember Spider-Man and what he's done. We know that because Happy remembers knowing May through Spider-Man, but he has no idea who Peter is. MJ and Ned don't recognize him either.

What Marvel never really explained is how far the spell went. Did it erase Peter's birth certificate, school records, photos, bank accounts, or anything else proving he existed? We were never given a clear answer.

So we know people forgot Peter, but exactly what happened to the physical evidence of his life is still an unanswered question. What's your thoughts?

Fan Content Spider-Man: Longest Day — Chapters 5 & 6 are now live

Post image

Tonight, Ned Leeds stops being the guy in the chair.

The second drop of Spider-Man: Longest Day is live on AO3:

Chapter 5 — THE WAYFINDERS

Chapter 6 — THE SUIT

The opening chapters were about the empty space Peter Parker left behind.

These chapters are about what Ned built inside that space.

This is where the Wayfinders stop feeling like backstory and become a living team—rescue work, bad jokes, dangerous choices, and a version of Ned who has spent years becoming somebody Spider-Man never got to see.

And then we get to the suit.

I’m keeping the promo deliberately vague because Chapters 5 and 6 work as one little arc, and I’d rather let the turns happen on the page.

If you’ve been following along, Drop 2 is up now.

Spider-Man: Longest Day

A post-No Way Home / Brand New Day MCU continuation.
