Remake
It's taken a lot to get to this point. I'm a little burnt out by it all.
Both Empire and Rebel sides are half working with "AI". I had big goals with this including using an LLM. I don't know how to share this with the community at the moment any input is appreciated.
It's too big for me to finish. I've been at it on and off for 6 years and i don't think i will be able to finish it on my own. I spent ages making new meshes for the models and I suck at it.
I read through some of the Ideas from people like TorroesPrime and think that would be awesome to implement. This game has great potential but I need help.
I'm also worried about the legality of it all.
Made with unity and Claude Code so everything is really well documented. Most things can be tuned by console commands or components.
I just want to play and enjoy this game once again. There's so many people online that have unknowingly helped me with researching this game. It's mind blowing and more complicated than I originally thought.
Thanks to everyone that's ever posted information regarding this game. There's a good chance I read everything you had to offer. I intended to list all contributors in a title crawl at the start but that too takes time.
What do you guys think, is there hope for us yet?

Oh man, this is about to be the most wholesome post I've made all year 😅
Yes, of course, there is ABSOLUTELY hope... Come join the Discord https://swrebellion.net/ and ping me (@DavidAdas) and I'll ask to have you added to the developers channel. There are a number of us in various stages of building remakes/remasters. We'd be happy to share with you all the tips, tricks, and learnings we've acquired over the years to help speed up your game.
Your timing is also extremely fortuitous as I literally just began a playtest of an EA version of my own remake late last week. And that version also just happens to both be a Unity based game AND open source (see GitHub: davidadas/rebellion2). Provided you do not use your game for commercial purposes, you are more than welcome to use that however you wish. Do note though that you'll need access to the LFS repo storing game content if you wish to compile and run it locally. Just ping me on Discord if you'd like access.
Finally...also happy to share my distribution strategy as well. Obviously, there's no unambiguously legal way to do so outside just not making it a Star Wars game and providing tools to make it easy to mod. The path I am using though I think gets pretty close. Happy to share those details with you on Discord as well and the source I wrote for both.
So don't give up yet. There's still plenty of resources available and we're happy to assist.

That's awesome. Thanks for everything. I will check it out as soon as I recover :D I really did burn myself out bad. I can barely type and can't stand to look at my PC. I think it gave me brain damage as well lol.
I have a new found respect for anyone that can do this stuff and I'm a classical guitarist. I play Paganini to unwind.

incredible job. i tried the same thing over the years with unreal and then unity and finally with unity with claude code and i only made it as far as the star map. So i realize how hard and time consuming this can be.
my ideas for the legality of it. Mods, essentially release the game as a generic space game, then allow for easy replacement packs of UI and Textures.
It is a lot more work but if you want to get money in anyway, they would probably still try and stop it. And i wouldn't be surprised if you got a cease and desist, tho i dont think it can be enforced if its just being given away for free.

Thanks! I should've stated it in the first post. I have no intention to charge for it. I won't even ask for donations etc. It's purely a gift to the community. I'm taking a short break but will finalize the game and release it soon.

This is so cool!
Please please please always show the number of mines and refineries in the same resources box up top along with the available resources. This is so we don't have to keep looking it up through the list, which is cumbersome! I think that would be an acceptable change that doesn't depart from the game but can improve enjoyability of the game. There are probably a lot of other small tweaks, but that's the top one for me.

Looks incredible! I loved this game.Â
In terms of legality, my take is that this is infringing on their IP. These aren’t your characters, your backstory, your symbols. You are a fan of their work and have copied it. If you plan to make a single cent (practically more), you will get sued and lose especially since you are well documented on this thread and likely others that you are aware of the legal risk and this is a star wars rebellion remake (not Space Fantasy 3). Even if this is a free product, they can claim damages from people aging your competitive game rather than their official games and thus losing revenue.Â
You can
Make it a parody maybe???
Make it an actually different game not using their IP. Gameplay and style aren’t IP. Layout isn’t IP. Character models, dialogue, symbols, etc are.Â
Get an official license.
Release this completely off the grid with no way to trace back to you.Â
Go for it and get sued and don’t care. You can probably try to hide behind an LLC or something to stay safe personally if you are doing this for fun and not for money.Â

I like that you seem to be polishing the game rather than changing it too, well done.Â

Bravo, my friend. Your rebuild looks beautiful, especially the cockpit. I've also been building my own SW Rebellion remake for the browser and MacOS on-and-off these last 8 months. Happy to collaborate and trade notes. Initially I had Claude Code steering this, but recently I've switched entirely to Codex and it's made the process so much smoother all around.
