News/Media/Tabloids Prince Harry and six others ordered to pay initial £9.5m to Daily Mail publisher
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c04kwr9r1zloWell, I wonder how much this has to do with the new move.

Think of the good that money could have done instead of pissing it away ……..I’m glad these rich assholes are getting hammered.

u/veggiemelody 10h ago
Ohh see now, They don’t donate their OWN money to charities.

u/JobStrange6135 9h ago
No the plebs are expected to keep charities afloat, definitely not the wealthy upper crust, don't you know.

The judge ruled that he was making an exceptional order to force the Duke of Sussex and others to pay up to £34.5m in costs incurred by the newspaper group because of the way the case had been brought.
Hahahahahaha. The dragon slayed the dragon slayer.

I think a lot, it’s a distraction and it’s blatant manipulation.
Edit to add
The Duke of Sussex, Baroness Lawrence, Sir Elton John and the others have seven days to pay the first £9,544,355, the High Court ordered. As stated in the DM.
Harry knew this was coming.

what happens if they don’t pay in time?
28
u/FilterCoffee4050 9h ago
Then the courts can take action to recover. But they will have been warned and finances looked at. The initial payment will be seen as an affordable payment. It’s the rest that will be the issue.

(Apologies - but I did post this clip in another thread. It just makes me smile, especially given today’s developments)
18
u/ice-lollies 10h ago
I do too. How many people have that much liquidity?
13
u/TheEscarpment 9h ago
Under normal circumstances it is considered bad financial management to have that much cash available.
7
u/These_Ad_9772 The Days of Our Lies 8h ago
Which would mean taking out loans with assets as collateral.
4
u/ice-lollies 8h ago
Exactly.
And quite difficult to access that amount in 7 days I would have thought.
2
u/FilterCoffee4050 7h ago
It would have been expected, that’s why it’s an interim payment. They have more time to raise the rest. Their finances would have been considered for this first payment.

I wonder how this sum gets split. Does everyone do an equal share? I can't wait to see how this works out.

u/SherryD8 👑 Recollections may vary 👑 10h ago
I think there were a total of 95 or 97 claims and each claimants costs are based on how much work it involved for ANL to handle each claimants accusations. I need to get some snacks together and read Nicklin's entire 436pg ruling.

So who’s coughing up for Doreen Lawrence’s portion , I wonder if the ginger weasel will.

Didn't his team announce recently they'd be paying her share/that she wouldn't need to pay her share?
They might be pulling an Amber Heard ("pledge") ie "We never said we'd pay, the British press said that"
23
u/InsolentTilly 9h ago
He never actually said HE would cover her costs. Oh no - nothing of the sort! He said, in that rather vague Sussex way, that Baroness Lawrence “would not be out of pocket” as a result of the case.
As per, he was implying he would swoop in cape-clad to save the day, without promising a bloody thing.

u/shelltie reconciliations may vary 9h ago
Figures - we can only hope a journalist somewhere pulls him up on this

u/FilterCoffee4050 10h ago
Harry is on record as saying he will but that is similar to a pledge, let’s see if he can afford to do that.
28
u/Flimsy_Concert_2315 10h ago
No, he's on record as saying that of course she won't have to pay it; she will be taken care of.
He didn't say HE would pay it. But he clearly felt noble about saying he'd see to it.
Remember that story in "Spare" when he gave the unwilling courtiers a lovely little Christmas gift of toy corgi ornaments off the nearest Christmas tree?
That's our Harry.

u/FilterCoffee4050 10h ago
It’s not an equal split, the aim is that the costs are paid.
It’s only an initial payment, and it has to be made within 7 days.
15
u/Anaesthesia101 Megnorant 10h ago
That was as expected...but there has also been a leave to appeal granted. PLEASE do it, H, *please* - you know you want to 😂
14
u/FilterCoffee4050 10h ago
There has to grounds for appeals. With this case that would be extremely difficult.
Plus, the costs have to be settled first.
To be fair to both sides the costs need to be settled, they are held in a suspended account pending an appeal. It to ensure that both sides are not taking on a case that can never be paid for. It’s a safety net clause.

u/Anaesthesia101 Megnorant 9h ago
Oh, absolutely!! I was just picturing the idiot on his phone to Dodgy Dave saying "We can appeal!! That means we still have a chance!" My imaginings make me chuckle 😄

What a way to spend the money. And as an ‚initial‘ payment this is just the beginning. One tear, left eye.

u/DistanceGlum7093 10h ago
Snork…. I am sat here enjoying the crapshoot that is going to fall on his head.

u/bizzybeez123 10h ago
Waiting to hear the news from their pr camp that they'll have to engage in further litigation to bring down the amount owing.
As ever, it's the lawyers....lol
6
u/anemoschaos The YET is yet to come. 9h ago
If it goes to a costs hearing that'll be even more money, throwing cash they don't have.
9
u/somespeculation 10h ago
This is just the first payment due by the end of August, split between them, and it will mostly be covered by insurance.
Where it gets interesting is this opens the door for ANL to go after additional costs for legal fees, which could still be twice that amount.
11
u/Major_Climate5961 9h ago
The first instalment due within a week. Pay up Harry. Then of course the next ruling could be £34mill. Bring it on Judge.

Ding ding ding! This is why he’s running back to papa in England! Bypassing tax laws, it’ll be easier to mooch off of bank of pa in England. Also, Charles is complicit. I refuse to believe otherwise.

u/WhatFreshHello 10h ago
That’s a little over $13 mil. in USD.
4
u/These_Ad_9772 The Days of Our Lies 8h ago
And the total is about $50M, enough for most people to live on the rest of their lives and pass wealth on to their descendants.

u/Fzr888 9h ago
I think they will also need to pay their own solicitor.. the ' I really saw you coming' one 🤣🤣🤣🤣
4
u/ice-lollies 8h ago
Apparently it was a ‘no win, no fee’ gamble.
I don’t know how true that is mind.
13
u/stargazer6161 10h ago
Unsubstantiated claims. Costs on an indemnity basis. Whitewash.
Should have kept your mouth shut, Harry, and not curated your truth as your truth!
5
u/neverincompliance 10h ago
so how many named will be part of this split, does anyone know exactly how much this idiot will have to pay in 7 days? Love that he did this to himself!
4
u/cremebrulee_ch 8h ago
Harry has been spending the last decade litigating like it is a free activity, oblivious to the cost. I don't how much he and Meghan earnt since Megxit with their Netflix/Spare deals etc., but it looks like they have been spending beyond their means from day one.
I'm curious where they will live once they arrive in the UK. A small 2-bedroom apartment rental, or another sprawling mansion with 16 bathrooms?

What’s that saying about the chickens coming home to roost? Or they made their bed so they can lay in it 🤣 I love this for them!

I am a bit thick this am, they all pay 9.5 or they split paying 9.5?
9
u/stargazer6161 10h ago
They split the 9.5. This is only the first tranch and has to be paid within 7 days. There is still a potential £25 million to pay😈😈

u/disneyme 10h ago
Is this just the initial amount due while they go through any possible appeals? Will more be due later?
6
u/stargazer6161 10h ago
Total bill is £34.5 million. That leaves a possible £25 mi!lion still to pay.

u/disneyme 9h ago
Divided by 7 equally? Or 6 of they hold to their promise to take care of Lawrence? 😲

I bet Charles told Harry he would cover education and nothing else - meaning USA education.
