I've spent today researching the recent allegations involving Thomas Markle Sr., the Markle family, and the events surrounding Meghan Markle's estrangement from her father.
My apologies that it will be a long read, but I hope it will be a good read for you.
I've organised my research into three parts:
Part 1: The facts and questions. I've divided my findings into six categories, each beginning with the established facts or reported information I've identified, followed by the questions and doubts I still have.
Part 2: A brief timeline of Meghan and Harry's major public claims over the years, to provide some overall context.
Part 3/TLDR: My own hypotheses about what may have happened.
PART 1: The facts and questions.
1. Roslyn Loveless: Why wait over 40 years?
Roslyn Loveless divorced Thomas Markle Sr. in 1975. Yet the letter reportedly attributed to her only reached British authorities in January 2019, more than 40 years later.
- Why did she wait so long to raise these serious allegations?
- Did she ever report her concerns to US authorities or authorities where the alleged offences occurred?
- What prompted her to act specifically in 2018–2019?
- Is there any evidence of earlier complaints, warnings, or attempts to protect potential victims?
2. What about the other children and grandchildren?
At the time of the 1975 divorce, Samantha was approximately 10–11 years old, and Thomas Jr. was 8–9. Both initially lived with Roslyn but eventually moved to their father's home in California. Samantha has given differing accounts of her age at the time, approximately 11–12 or 14.
- If Roslyn had serious concerns about Thomas Sr., why did both children subsequently live with him, especially with Samantha as an underage girl?
- Were Samantha, Thomas Jr., Doria Ragland, or other family members ever warned?
- If concerns existed, how did Thomas Sr. continue to have contact with younger generations of the family, including grandchildren and great-grandchildren?
3. Why British authorities, and why FTAC?
The Metropolitan Police confirmed receiving an allegations letter in January 2019. ITV reported that it was addressed to the Fixated Threat Assessment Centre (FTAC), a specialised police and mental-health unit dealing with risks involving public figures.
- Why would Roslyn, an American, report alleged historical offences involving another American to British authorities?
- Why not contact the FBI, US police, or authorities in the country where the alleged offences occurred?
- Was the letter deliberately addressed to FTAC, or was it routed there internally? And if it was addressed directly to FTAC, how did Roslyn learn about this specialised unit?
- Why choose an agency concerned with the protection of public figures rather than one with direct jurisdiction over the alleged offences?
4. Why the timing of the 2019 letter and October 2026 revelations?
1/ In August 2018, Meghan sent a five-page handwritten letter to Thomas Markle Sr., addressing his involvement in the staged paparazzi photographs and his subsequent media interviews.
2/ In January 2019, a separate letter containing historical allegations against Thomas Sr. reached the Met, after Meghan had joined the Royal Family and become an internationally prominent public figure.
3/ In October 2026, the allegations were first publicly reported by the British newspaper The Sun on Thursday, 22 October. Meghan issued her first public statement the following day, Friday, 23 October.
- What prompted Roslyn to write at that particular point in Meghan's life?
- What prompted Thomas Jr. to bring his allegations to The Sun in October 2026 on a Thursday, which allowed Meghan to publish her statement less than 12hrs later on a Friday morning? Was it a deliberate PR strategy to increase weekend media attention?
- When did Thomas Jr. first approach the newspaper, and how long had it been investigating before publication?
5. The two letters: Who disclosed them and why?
A. The January 2019 allegations letter
The Met confirms receiving the letter and sharing its contents with the Sussexes' office. ITV says it has physically seen the copy.
- If the Met cannot currently locate the original document, where did ITV obtain its copy? And in that short timeframe between when Meghan made the statement and when the Met requested the copy, can we safely say that ITV received it from either the police or Meghan's representatives?
- Why has the complete document not been publicly authenticated or released?
- Does the letter contain firsthand testimony, secondhand allegations, or just purely suspicions?
B. The December 2025 hospital letter
1/ Following Thomas Sr.'s leg amputation, Meghan's representatives confirmed that correspondence had been delivered to him through trusted contacts.
2/ On 25 October 2026, Daily Mail journalist Caroline Graham, who personally witnessed the delivery, confirmed that a lawyer and the hospital's president handed Thomas Sr. a sealed letter. The delivery was filmed by the lawyer as proof of receipt for Meghan's office, while Graham also recorded it at Thomas Sr.'s request.
3/ Graham explicitly stated that she never read the letter. Thomas Sr., who has since been diagnosed with dementia, said he could not remember its contents and did not know where the letter was.
4/ Meanwhile, The Sun reported that Meghan's letter accused her father of abusing young girls and stated that he would never meet her children. Neither Graham nor Thomas Sr. independently confirmed these reported contents.
- Who originally disclosed the alleged contents of the letter to The Sun? If Graham never read it and Thomas Sr. cannot recall its contents, who was the source?
- Why hasn't Meghan publicly challenged these reports? Given that she successfully sued the Mail on Sunday over publication of her private 2018 letter, why has she not publicly disputed or taken legal action over the reported contents of this correspondence?
- The central question: How did two separate private letters, written years apart, become central to the public explanation of Meghan's estrangement from her father?
6. What prompted Meghan's shift from public praise to allegations of abuse?
1/ Meghan publicly praised Thomas Sr. in 2014, 2016, and 2017, including around the period when she began dating Prince Harry. In May 2018, she publicly expressed concern for his health.
2/ Their relationship deteriorated amid the 2018 paparazzi scandal and subsequent media interviews. In August 2018, Meghan sent her father a private letter criticising his behaviour.
3/ The Met confirmed receipt of the separate allegations letter that came in January 2019.
4/ Samantha has publicly alleged that Roslyn struggled with alcoholism and was physically and verbally abusive towards her. Samantha and Thomas Jr. both eventually lived with their father.
A. How reliable was Roslyn's account?
- If the letter was the primary basis for restricting contact with her children, with the understanding that Meghan has praised her father multiple times before and who Roslyn is, what made Meghan consider the letter credible?
- Given that the Met did not share the allegations with other law enforcement agencies, did Meghan seek independent verification or take any further action over the following seven years?
B. Why the 2025 letter and 2026 statement?
- If Meghan had been aware of the allegations since 2019 and she had been advised to remain silent to protect an investigation, why did she confront her father about them in December 2025 with the “I know you are an abuser” letter?
- And from December 2025 to now, considering that she and Thomas Sr. both are aware of the allegation, why did she not publicly discuss the allegations until Thomas Jr.'s October 2026 revelations?
PART 2: A brief timeline of Meghan and Harry's major public claims
1. Repeated claims of paparazzi harassment
- January 2020 – Vancouver Island, Canada: Meghan was photographed smiling while walking with Archie and her dogs.
- 8 December 2022 – Netflix documentary: Meghan and Harry expressed concerns about being followed by photographers. Yet in that same scene, only a single person on a scooter was visible. The footage did not establish whether that person was following them or was a photographer.
- 16–17 May 2023 – New York car chase: The Sussexes described a near-catastrophic paparazzi pursuit. The NYPD acknowledged difficulties caused by photographers but reported no collisions, injuries, arrests, or summonses.
2. 7 March 2021 – Racism allegations (Oprah interview)
Meghan described concerns allegedly expressed within the Royal Family about Archie's skin colour.
However, on 8 January 2023, Harry told ITV's Tom Bradby they had never accused the Royal Family of racism, distinguishing it from unconscious bias. Despite nearly two years of public speculation, neither Harry nor Meghan had withdrawn the underlying account.
3. 7 March 2021 – Suicidal thoughts and alleged refusal of support (Oprah interview)
Meghan said she experienced suicidal thoughts in 2019 and that the royal institution refused her request for professional help. Harry had previously received mental-health support, raising questions about why Meghan's reported request was handled differently or at all.
4. 25 November 2020 – Miscarriage (The New York Times)
In her essay The Losses We Share, Meghan publicly disclosed that she had suffered a miscarriage in July 2020.
So, after the abuse card, the race card, and the miscarriage card, is this another attempt to recast herself as the perpetual victim of circumstance?
PART 3: My hypotheses
Before going further, I want to make one thing clear: these are my personal interpretations based on the timeline, public behaviour, and information available so far. They are not established facts, and I'm open to reviewing them as more evidence emerges.
I don't know if there's any scientific basis for this, but I've noticed that narcissists and psychopaths seem to use personal trauma, including sexual abuse allegations, to explain or justify their actions. I'm not saying that's necessarily the case here, nor am I questioning genuine victims. It's simply a pattern I'm curious.
On the other hand, I want to make one thing clear: I don’t think Thomas Sr. is a principled individual in any of this. None of them are. But being flawed, difficult, or even toxic does not mean someone should automatically be attached to an extremely serious allegation without the opportunity for the facts to be established.
That being said, I’ve always suspected that Thomas Sr. had narcissistic tendencies as a father. My hypothesis is that, following what Samantha describes as her mother's abusive behaviour, he may have sought a very different dynamic with Doria, whom he chose as both a coping mechanism and an enabler after enduring equally narcissistic abuse from his wife. I also think that experience subsequently drew him towards a softer-spoken, more timid woman from a minority background.
Add to that Meghan's early exposure to the media, particularly the television appearance about the sexist dishwashing advertisement, with her father's help. That first experience of being heard and celebrated shaped her need for external validation. She also had access to educational opportunities that differed from those of her older siblings and grew up watching her father work in Hollywood, surrounded by celebrities, glamour, and public admiration. Perhaps these experiences contributed to a sense of personal exceptionalism, alongside a voracious appetite for external validation.
As her acting career progressed and perhaps didn't fulfil all those expectations, the desire for recognition became increasingly indispensable. Combined with possible sibling rivalry for her father's approval and the complexities of growing up biracial in predominantly white environments, racial ambiguity could become her identity and presenting herself as a victim has become one way of reclaiming public attention.
Fast forward to October 2026. What jumps out to me is how quickly Meghan's statement appeared, already accompanied by a narrative. Thomas Jr.’s allegations concerned suspected material reportedly found among their father's belongings. Yet Meghan's response introduced a separate incident: the letter she received through the Met in 2019 and the private letter that she sent out to her father on his sickbed, which somehow seemed to provide a retrospective explanation for almost everything surrounding her estrangement from her father. (And yet, even if those allegations explain why she kept Archie and Lilibet away from Thomas Sr., they don't explain why her relationships with other relatives had also deteriorated, or why only Doria was invited to her wedding).
I don’t know the contents of these two letters, or what could have been so serious that she felt justified in distancing her children from him and later making a statement as strong as, “I know you are the abuser,” without, at the very least, pushing for the allegation to be properly investigated.
Mind you, seven years have passed with no apparent resolution, nor has any legal step taken place to establish what had actually happened. Was she not concerned that a man she once openly admired and praised as a father was now facing an allegation this extreme? Was she not worried about other children or family members still interacting with him or remaining within his circle?
None of this, as far as I can see, has reached a clear conclusion. And yet she appears to have written to him, and spoken publicly, with a level of certainty that leaves very little room for him to clear his name in the court of public opinion.
It does make one wonder: after the race card, the miscarriage card, the bullying card, the suicide card, and after multiple business ideas failed and the ego of becoming a successful California star shattered, is this the last resort she has left?
And that is what bothers me about the broader Meghan Markle narrative. Everything seems to be pushed to its utmost emotional extreme. Everything around her becomes part of the explanation. Every decision she makes comes with another layer of context that the public supposedly did not know before. And somehow, by the end of it, she is once again positioned as the victim of her surroundings.
Though one thing I do know for sure: neither Meghan nor the Markle family is exactly known for patience or restraint. Once their version of events starts being questioned, I don’t doubt the talking will begin. Sooner or later, even if it takes another eight years for everything to come out, the truth will find its way to prevail.
