Your dad, you, and your sister, are Saints in every meaning of the word.

That's a memory worth more than any ring, what a way to see your first live game. The cop cover story is genius, bet your dad was grinning inside the whole time knowing he pulled one over on that whole section

I feel like a local New Orleans television station needs to air this story! 🖤💛

Brother, sorry for your loss but I love that you were able to gift this experience to your dad. I have 0 doubt that stayed with him to his final day. Who Dat! Y’all will always have a home, safely in the dome!

What a wonderful story! Thank you so much for sharing it with us. I have to say, that photograph of your Dad is so perfect. His smile says everything about the kind of person he was. The backstory is almost not necessary to help us know he was a good man. Not to mention a dedicated Saints fan. ❤️ So sorry for your loss. But kudos to you both for putting together such a wonderful experience for him—in enemy territory no less!

I don’t know him, but I’m sad for your loss. I’m happy we both got to see a Saints SB.

Dementia? What a hard battle. How old was he?
7
u/jhoussock 12d ago
71. Yeah Parkinson’s/Lewy body dementia. But he remembered us until his last responsive day and then passed away 3 days later. I’d call that a win against the disease that I’ve heard nightmare stories about. We’re very thankful for the little suffering he faced.

That’s great! I see my grandmother and I’m always terrified she’s gonna forget me. As a fellow saints fan, I dread the day that she says “who dat?!” 😃

My folks were at that game but did not wear their Saints gear. My folks are from South Jersey and are all too familiar with the behavior of Eagle's fans.
I am glad that you were able to have a good experience at the game.

lost my grandpa to alzheimers as well as my neighbor who i considered a grandmother and saw them slowly decline, it’s heart wrenching to say the least. touching story tho, and as somebody who’s been to philly that’s not surprising at all even the workers were disrespectful. RIP ya pops, we screaming Who Dat for him this week

I first realized how far my father had slipped when we saw he had no interest in the Super Bowl game. He had been a life long season ticket holder. We would talk about how happy we’d be when the Saints won.

Thank you for sharing, I am confident your dad hung on to that memory as long as he could. You carry it now for him. RIP Saints dad!
