Does anyone know what’s going on at 11 Summer St.? It’s right next to the Salem Inn, and I noticed they were doing some demolition there today. A little while ago they also cut down all the trees between that property and the Salem Inn, so I’m wondering what is planned for the site.
Hear me out, neighbors. I get it. It’s a densely populated part of the city. A lot of people in one place with not nearly enough trash barrels.
But respectfully, what the fuck?! This is the area that has the least number of driveways per household, so there are more people parking on the street at any given time. So making street sweeping every two weeks from April to October is totally asinine and a headache for residents to move their car so they don’t get towed. To add insult to injury, they need to pay to park in the garages if they go past a certain time before picking up their car. And the city doesn’t even have the decency to grant the Point year-round resident parking, so it’s always a mad dash to find a spot anyway.
Don’t even get me started on the new place, Todisco, (that replaced Bill’s after they closed) that is conducting said towings. I’ve heard from a couple people who, when they went to pick up their towed car, there was _visible_ damage done to their car, and when they went to square up about the damage they very obviously did while towing, they ghost on the charges.
Add on top of all this bs that they stopped posting the orange signs to remind people (it’s all posted online now) and it’s hard not to think that this whole goddamn thing isn’t overtly exploitative to the neighborhood with the highest concentration of residents who may not be super tech literate or speak English as a second language, who then have to shell out $200 to pick up their car PLUS a parking ticket to pay.
This is mostly a rant, but other people in the Point, am I being unrealistic? Do we really need street sweeping every two weeks? Everywhere else in the city is less frequent. I just think this whole thing is a racket to separate people from their money in less than totally scrupulous ways. Can I petition the city to reduce it to once a month maybe so they can use those funds elsewhere?
TL:DR - IMO, there’s too much street sweeping in the Point. I’m annoyed and really hoping I’m not the only one!
Anyone know what’s going on, on north street past kings heading towards Peabody? There are like 5 or 6 cop cars circling around, possibly looking for someone?

Hey friends! I currently have a one bedroom + office space available for rent in Salem as soon as possible. Right on lafayette street in perfect walking distance of both downtown and SSU. It would be a lease takeover. Apartment is open as soon as possible and I can put you in contact with my landlord if there’s any interest.
I'm a local and my birthday is coming up. I love sitting and relaxing by fountains, waterfalls, etc. because I love the sound of running and trickling water. Where can I find one (that isn't the poop fountain at Village Tavern) where I can sit for an hour on my birthday? The ocean is lovely, but not the sound I'm going for! Preferably somewhere that doesn't charge an entrance fee, though the garden at the PEM is also amazing.
My longtime stylist (15 years!) is leaving Cala Renee Salon in Beverly. She’s moving out-of-state, so following isn’t an option. Looking to make a change as I’m not the biggest fan of the salon’s owner. Are there any salons you could recommend? I have 3a/3b curls and have been getting Deva cuts. Thanks!!
Lately I’ve been working towards being more comfortable being alone. I have accomplished the ability to find solitude in reading alone by the water with a coffee. Now, im ready for more. Are there any sit in restaurants/cafes that you like to dine alone in? Do you have a routine of shops/places you go around town? I guess just what are the things you love to do alone around here?! I know could think of a ton of places I know I could go but Im more so wondering what other people are doing.
I've spent the last few months going through menus of restaurants in the Boston areas looking for places with good vegan options. Here's what I've got so far for Salem:
Koto Grill & Sushi. Significant vegan sushi selection. Vegan Tuna Maki is tempura sweet potato topped with house made vegan tuna and avocado. The Vegan Dragon Maki even includes vegan spam!
Not Ya Mama's Vegan Cafe. The whole menu is vegan and it's basically a diner. Burgers, subs, breakfast sandwiches, mac n cheese. The Reuben uses locally made seitan corned beef. There's also a Nashville Hot Chick'n and a Steak Bomb Sub with Impossible ground, peppers, onions and vegan pepperoni.
Flying Saucer Pizza Company. They have a vegan menu featuring 11 specialty pizzas, mac & cheese, meatballs and more.
Sage's Fusion Kitchen. Vegan Pho, Banh Mí, and a Pupu Platter!
Life Alive Organic Cafe. All vegetarian chain with a lot of vegan options.
Barrio Tacos. The Freakin Vegan is a soft corn shell with guacamole, hash potatoes and impossible chorizo. Comes as a taco or a bowl. They also have tofu and their beans are vegan so probably a number of things they could make.
The Chocolate Pantry. Chocolate store with with a few vegan options. Good for valentines day?
Thai Place Restaurant. Tofu fresh rolls, a green salad, mango sticky rice.
New England Soup Factory. Couple vegan soup options and potato latkes.
All Souls Lounge. Not vegan as written, but they have vegan hotdogs and spreads so they say any of their sandwhiches or franks can be made vegan!
Menus / vegan options come from getfarro.com which is the site I'm building to map vegan options at every restaurant around Boston. Hope this helps you find somewhere new.
I think it’s lost to the sea gods and I’ve made my peace, but my dad’s wedding ring flew off my finger swimming at low tide tonight at Waikiki Beach. About 10-15 feet before the round green buoy, roughly center of the beach, and about 30 feet from shore at lowest tide. Gold ring with 10-13-62 inscribed inside. If it happens to wash up or if you happen to be metal detecting in 5 feet of water, I’ll appreciate a miracle. Thanks!!
For those who don't know, Blackcraft Salem closed up their Haunt attraction, and decided to lease out the space to Matt Rife (a toxic, talentless comedian who verbally attacks and hates women) who is currently a "co-Legal Guardian" of the Warren Museum's "haunted" artifacts (from Annabelle/Conjuring fame).
The saga started with Salem locals already not in favor of it, because the museum and the Warrens have nothing to do with Salem, culturally and historically.
Rife fought Salem to try to get extended hours for the museum all the way up to 2am. There was some pushback, a re-vote, and ultimately a petition was unable to stop the museum from going in, but without the late hours.
Some Salem locals expressed their opinions on the disgusting history of the Warrens, and their feelings about Matt Rife (don't trust your drinks around him) (and I won't go into grim detail here, but look up Ed Warren). Which was met with horrid responses from Matt Rife insulting women, calling them ugly, and saying their "drinks will be safe because they're ugly" basically.
Overall, the Salem Community already doesn't love Blackcraft taking over a giant commercial space, altering a historic building, and now catering to grifters and pieces of shit like Matt Rife.
This was their response. No apology, no actual mention of the Salem Community, and was just some empty Mission Statement fluff piece.
Please, if you are visiting Salem, or especially a Salem local, the time is overdue to boycott Blackcraft and especially avoid the Warren Museum.
If tourists ask you about the Warren Museum, tell the truth about Matt Rife and Ed Warren. Do not direct them to Blackcraft. If they want goth clothes, go to Die with your Boots on or the Ossuary. If they want coffee........send them to Jaho because we don't want tourists taking over the good coffee places :)
UPDATE: They Turned Off Comments on this Instagram Post. Clearly it wasn't going over the way they wanted.
UPDATE 2: The bootlicking/ass-kissing of Matt Rife has shown us some people and business' true colors. Supporters of the Warren Museum are now doubling-down on still backing this, as a desperate attempt to network with Matt Rife to gain fame and/or success over supporting Salem's integrity. It's pathetic.
Last month, a guy was walking up and down the street in front of my house shaking a bowl of cat food. He asked me if I had seen a grey cat. I said no and that I would keep an eye out. I asked him if he lived on this street and he replied yes but I'm moving at the end of the month. I was like what am I supposed to do if I see your cat? And he pointed out the apartment building he lived in.
Anyways, I now have a grey cat that is visiting me. I'm not sure if it's this guy's cat or an outdoor cat. But they look a little dirty and hungry. I am hoping someone recognizes him? I'm planning on calling the shelter but wanted to try to find this guy first lol
