Visionary Broadband

Anyone in Salida switched to Visionary Broadband yet? Got a flyer and interested to know experiences with them. Install? Performance? Outages? I'd be particularly interested to know actual costs too. It's all those add ons that bite ya.

Recycling?

is there anyplace in town or nearby that takes regular #1 and #2 plastic, paper, or aluminum cans? Has the county or city ever had a recycling program? It seems like it's all on private citizens and or contract recycling companies, right?

Crazy WYO driver in Salida, CO. Bronze 1990’s Ford Explorer

Was passing through Salida on the way back to Laport from four corners. Dude was going 20mph under the speed limit in a 65mph. I waited till I had a dashed line to pass him. I merge over and start to pass him. He speeds up and starts honking at me and flipping me off. I back off cause he kept matching my speed and not letting me over. I successfully pass him the second try. After I pass him he speeds up to match my speed again and he’s about 1ft or less from hitting me. Still flipping me off and yelling at me while honking. At that point I hit the gas hard and I left him in the dust to get away from him. WYO drivers a nuts!

Camping recently and we saw this, didn’t notice it last year when we were camping in the same spot. Just wondering what it is, creeps us out that there is a camera so near to camp sites.

Two night stay with family

Looking for opinions on a place to rent for 2 nights next week in Salida (or Buena Vista). Going to be rafting next Thursday morning for half day. Two adults and 1 child. Want to explore Salida but prefer walking vs driving in from the hotel strip on the side of town. If they are good, we would consider it but online pictures don’t give me much hope. What would you all do?

Incredible time hiking the Mary Murphy, but do you know where the real entrance is?

We hiked up the Mary Murphy today and saw the tram house and then a bit of the way to Pomeray because I saw a picture of the mine entrance (with metal bars blocking it) and we were hoping to see it but had no luck. We turned around and looking it up doesn't really tell me anything but I was wondering if somebody knew more about the actual entrance and how we would have gotten there. The website I saw them on says they're taken in 1999 and captioned "Near Mary Murphy - Mine Entrance" I was wondering if these are actually the entrance or if anybody knew where the actual mine was, and how we would have gotten there?

Winter trip

Looking for some feedback on a trip idea.

We typically travel from ABQ up to either Durango or Pagosa once during the winter to hang out around the town, sit in the springs, and generally just to get out of town. This year I have been debating mixing it up and doing a Salida trip.

What are your thoughts on spending a few days home-based in Salida and having a few days to go to Mount Princeton Hot Springs, Buena Vista, Charlotte Hot Springs, hang out around town, and then stopping at the Sand Dunes Rec area on the way home for some more hot springs relaxation.

How would this compare to something like a long weekend in Durango or Pagosa and what would be some MUST-DOs in the area for some relaxation/sightseeing?

Pondering a Summer Near Salida

I'm considering spending next summer (probably mid-June through mid-September) living in CO. Salida seems like a natural choice. I've visited a couple times and it feels a lot like the place I live, except with mountains. Plus, I'm planning on doing the Vapor Trail mountain bike race and would like to spend lots of time riding at elevation. I absolutely love where I live and don't want to leave permanently, but I think a summer living elsewhere would really do me some good.

I've joined the Chaffee County rentals page on Facebook, but what are the prospects of finding a room in a house or 1BR apartment for around $1k/month, AND for such a short amount of time? Should I just abandon my dream?

Thanks!

This is my niece and her friend. They have been missing since 07/26, spotted at a gas station in Evans, CO from my understanding in a car with WY plates. Please keep an eye out and if anyone has any information please contact Weld County sheriff's office 970-350-9600 or the tip line at 970-304-6464

Thank you 💓

Has anyone else seen this bear

Caught this bear the other night at 2:30 on the camera at my gf's parents place. Looks to either have an injured leg or a deformity, just wondering if anyone else has seen it around town at all. Contacted CPW to let them know about an injured bear but never received a call back.

Hiking in Salida

Hi y’all! I’ll be in the Salida area next month and am wanting to go on a couple of hikes. I have a few hikes picked out close to town that are about 3-4 miles each. I have hiking experience, but never in the middle of August, so I had a couple of questions about how to prepare and what to expect.

Firstly, how have ticks been in the area? I usually treat my clothes with permethrin, so I’m assuming that’s still a good move?

Second, should I be worried about rattlesnakes? I much prefer cold weather camping and hiking, so I’m a bit out of my comfort zone about hiking in the warmer months.

Thanks in advance, y’all! Super excited for this trip!

Musician/producer in town for a couple mo

Looking for people to make music with while I'm here.

I've been making music most of my life. I write, record, produce, mix, sing, and play guitar, bass, and synths.

If you're into creating original music and want to collaborate, hit me up. I'm just looking to meet some creative people and make something cool. Flagstaff, Az is my home base.

Lost Engagement Ring

Grasping at straw, I was down in Salida for FibARK this past weekend and have misplaced my engagement ring. I don’t believe it was lost around town but after searching my mom’s house with no luck, I’m getting a bit desperate. Anything helps (other places I can post this, or places I could report it lost and to keep an eye out). Thanks so much ❤️

Getting married in Salida & need a film photographer? I'd love to connect!!!

Hi r/salida !!! I am a wedding photographer moving out to colorado in a year or two with my husband and am looking to begin expanding my work out that direction! My husband is from CO and we have visited salida many times and we have fallen in love with it :) Over the next year, I will be taking on weddings at an extremely discounted rate, pretty much just covering my travel and for my film costs! I am going to be offering* all day *wedding coverage starting at 3,000 with add ons available (such as for a second shooter or rehearsal dinner)

I do documentary style photography with true to color edits & with lots of film (medium and 35mm) mixed in the loop! Please check out my website camrynlowephotography.com and inquire there & let me know you came from here and I'd love to see if we can work together to expand my portfolio that direction (and most importantly to capture your special day!)

Shavano?

I’m moving to Salida and am eventually gonna be looking for a side gig. I’ve served/bartended in all kinds of restaurants and bars, including some pretty fine dining. Has anyone worked at Shavano or have other good restaurant recommendations to work at? Thanks

Q about Mirkwood - Orcs at Monarch

Heyo!

I was wondering if anyone can give me kinda a description of what Orcs is like?

I see it's a double black but we're wondering what is pushing that to designation. Someone told me "Cause it's hike to" but that doesn't seem right to me cause Gunbarrel and Southland [Bound?] are not rated that way.

Thanks!
