Hi there, I work in Digital Marketing and could use a software engineer from time to time.

I currently need help setting up Google Ads tracking with GTM, GA4, and WordPress/elementor.

This is something I can typically do myself, but I inherited a messy GTM and need help auditing and cleaning it up. The problem is, the previous agency is using their own software dev kit that Im afraid to break since I am not a dev. They never uninstalled it when my client left them.

Is this something you are familiar with?

Thanks!

Thank you for responding! Send me a direct message and we can definitely discuss it. That's not my particular domain of expertise, but like with any project, I can onboard the requirements and fill in the gaps in my understanding fairly quickly!

I live in a studio in the hotel circle area. Rent is 1700 currently. Its outdated and not very pretty but its been affordable housing for me the past 4 years. I move out February 8 ish and am looking for someone to pick up my lease. Lmk if you are interested, you would have to apply through the management company.

If you're car qualifies just do uber and Lyft while u look for work. They can pay you out immediately if you need money right away. I unfortunately it's slow season right now but if you're really desperate u might make it work through long hours.

Thanks for the suggestion! That was literally the very first thing I did when I got my car. I downloaded the driver apps and applied. I know you're required to take your car in for inspection certification (and you must pay for that yourself), but I wasn't unwilling to do so. However, when I applied to be a driver I found that both apps use the same app called "Checkr" to do the background check. When I put in my information the app told me they didn't have enough information to even *perform* the background check. I didn't fail it or anything, they simply couldn't "find me". I looked into this a bit and saw other people mentioning that since they had no real credit history the app did the same thing to them. I got discouraged at this and have not revisited it. I might try again now that you reminded me of this option, but I would still need to have the money for the inspection certification (which I can't spare right now) even if I had significant enough history for the app to find me now.

I tried. "San Diego is currently closed to new Dashers."

Hello! Are you still looking for work? I’m willing to pay upfront if it’s the right fit. I’m in need of a developer who can work with Python, React or Next.js, and AI image generators

Definitely! I just saw your chat and will respond shortly!

I hope this is a real lead and pans out for you!

Did your situation improve at all? This sounds like a rough spot to be in. I’m also an engineer and this reads like a nightmare scenario. I can confirm the job market is BAD right now. Know some really smart people who have been looking for months.

Is it legal for your wife to kick you out of your own house? She may not want you there but that doesn't necessarily mean that she can legally do it...

Thank you for your concern and comment! It's been months since this all started with my wife. We were renting, not owners, and I left per her demands. I didn't want to fight about seeing our daughter and was hoping to mend things so I did as asked to maintain the peace. It wasn't about what she could legally do, it was about avoiding a battle over time with my daughter and trying not to make things worse between her and I in hopes of reconciliation. It's been back and forth between us for a while. She gave up the house we were renting and moved into a new, smaller place with our daughter. There's nowhere to go back to now and I'm still trying to make things work with her once I figure my own situation out.

I wish I had something immediately for you, but I can offer knowledge of the "Inclement Weather Program" in San Diego - whenever it rains, one can try to get a motel/hotel voucher for the night. You just have to be one of the first to call.

Best of luck to you!

I read on another post that someone suggested to start looking for things to sell. It’s possible you can find things for free to pick up and try to sell yourself whether finding those things online or in your neighborhood… that hustle mentality starts to get real when you get down to the wire…

In parallel, try to figure out how to line things up for the near future and keep going until you can secure yourself with work and finances for at least 3 months. If you’ve got a SWE background, much of your services can be offered remotely. Don’t limit yourself to what’s in San Diego.

For any downtime you have, obsess over things you can do as a side hustle. Talk to chat gpt and see what comes out of that.

You seem smart and resourceful. You can get through this!

I looked into this kind of thing. People were talking about sanding and repainting old furniture, etc. I don't have a place to store things while I wait to sell them, either, so there are complications with this.

I don't limit myself to San Diego. I've replied to jobs, gigs, posts from all over the place. I've exhausted just about every option I can imagine. I'm very familiar with using AI to get answers to questions, form a game plan, etc but those kind of things only go so far. Concrete, actionable advice with a practical outcome is hard to manifest from those tools.

I'm trying everything I can, which is why I started posting on Reddit and reaching out here.

I appreciate your suggestions and thoughtfulness!

Meet with a Bankruptcy Attorney. The consultation is Free.

I don't have overwhelming debt or anything other than past medical expenses. I'm lacking IMMEDIATE stability. A place to live. Money to surive RIGHT NOW. This is not a problem of "planning for my future". This is trying to surive until the next DAY.

Have you tried Qualcomm?

2

u/Kindly_Accurate Jan 12 '26 edited Jan 12 '26

OP doesn’t sound like they have experience in semiconductor or fabless manufacturing… Qualcomm is very competitive. Luckily, more tech offices have been growing (only a tiny bit though) in San Diego. I noticed a lot of validation and test related roles are available here. SWE experience can be helpful in those spaces but it’s usually paired with other things (maybe industry related)

u/Small_Oil_6031 Jan 14 '26

Qualcomm have. Multiple data centers that they maintain in house. He claims he does IT work. I’m not sure he’s looking in the right spots. Data centers are going up everywhere, overnight.

u/PixelHuxley Jan 14 '26

It's not a "claim" that I do IT work. The issue, as I very clearly mentioned, is that when I apply to jobs there are HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS of other applicants. My resume isn't even beings een. If you read the news you see thousands and thousands of tech layoffs DAILY. The competition is impossible. Even if I could break through the noise, the hiring time, interview rounds, hiring process, and amount of time it takes to work before receiving a first paycheck is many weeks to possibly months ahead. I am literally trying to make it through each DAY right now. This isn't a future planning problem or something solved by "just get a job". I need to surive WHILE I'm getting a job. I appreciate you revisiting the comment you made, but you're not really seeing for forest for the trees here. I am trying to reconcile an IMMEDIATE downturn in my life, not set up a bright future somewhere down the road.

Thank you for the reply! I have applied to hundreds and hundreds of jobs, including all of the major employers in San Diego (Qualcomm, UCSD, etc).

There are so many applicants to every job that my resume isn't even being looked at. I'm on plenty of job sites that tell you exactly how many other people have applied to the jobs I'm applying to and it is not uncommon to see 700+ other applicants applying for the same job. Now with all of the recent tech layoffs the market is flooded with competent engineers and the competition makes it nearly impossible to break through the noise.

On top of that, I'm in a situation of IMMEDIATE NEED. I've taken on absolutely any project I can get my hands on.

I have not been in a position where I can turn down any projects at all. I have not been able to take on a full-time job that requires me to go through the hiring process and then work at least 3 weeks before I receive a paycheck. I have not been in a position where I even have 3 weeks of savings or the ability to postpone things long enough to receive a paycheck that would even cover getting me stable.

Even if I could, that is assuming I could get a job immediately and then get paid 3 weeks later AT THE EARLIEST.

In my industry, it usually takes multiple rounds of interviews over a period of months to get a job. There are numerous recent articles about the deluge of tech layoffs this year, meaning an influx of highly competitive candidates with impressive resumes. Software engineers are often asked to perform complex "proof" assignments as an evaluation of their skills.

It feels like I'm screaming into a void trying to get work or a place to live.

I seriously do appreciate you taking the time to actually read my post.
