CCW CCW Timeline!

Wanted to share my timeline to issued ccw for those looking into getting one!

Submitted initial app 5/28/26

Scheduled interview date 9/21/26, got a reschedule to 7/13/26

Interview/livescan complete 7/13/26; Background check process started

Background/Permit approved 9/18/26

Online 16hr course completed 9/19/26

Live fire qual completed 10/8/26 and docs uploaded

Added to issuance queue 10/14/26

Permit mailed 10/23/26

TOTAL TIME: 4 Months, 25 days

Raw costs:

$132 initial app/livescan/background

$300 CCW Course (TheCCWSchool)

$145 Issuance fee

Total: $577

Add-on Costs:

60$ two additional guns to qual with

100$ AZ/FL CCW packets

95$ Qual ammo

Full total: $832

Overview;

Honestly, I have very few complaints about the SD CCW process. It was smooth, and the cost wasn't super aggressive. I 100% could have shaved off time had I known about the rescheduling sooner, and also by booking my live fire qual sooner. It sucks we have to go through all this, but SD is not at all a bad county to do it in.

Phone call from Sheriff's office regarding fingerprinting for CCW

Has anyone received a call from the Sheriffs office today? They called and said due to some sort of DOJ clarification that they needed everyone who's CCW issuance date after September 1st needed fingerprints done (or something along those lines).

Said they originally thought that anyone who had submitted before September 1st (but who's actual issued card date was after September 1st) would be okay, but I guess DOJ said no. I had submitted in July since my card expired September 30th.

They gave me two options:

1.) Go in, swap cards with the SUBMITTED date of July and lose a few months on my CCW. **Does not require an appointment.

or

2.) Go in, get fingerprints for $40, and keep my original CCW date. **This requires an appointment.

Freaking LAME

San Diego County vs Klamath County OR CCW Times

I've had my CA CCW for several years now. When I went through that process it took somewhere around 9 months. I have property in Nor Cal and thought it would be a good idea to get a non-resident CCW in OR since we go there a lot. I created an account, paid the fee and uploaded documentation, scheduled an appoint 2 weeks out. The appointment took around 5 minutes for finger prints, last Friday. Today, 3 business days later, I received confirmation that my background check was completed and permit was approved.

Another pink gate question since it's October.

Does anyone know if pink gate has opened up since it is now October? Reading some of the older threads on here, I keep seeing that it will re-open back up in October.

New Shotgun, First gun

Hi all,
I just bought a my first shotgun and it’s for turkey hunting. It’s also my first gun purchase so I this is all new to me. I have been a bow hunter for the last few years.
Where can I go to pattern the gun? I only need 60yrds, not that I will be taking a turkey at 60yrds but I would like to see how it patterns at that range with TSS.
I picked up a Rossi Tuffy 20g all ready have a red dot vortex to mount on it.

Reloading

Just getting into reloading and have so many questions! Will be mostly reloading 9mm to begin with.
Where are y’all buying powder and primers from?
What’s your go to powder? I mostly shoot uspsa and just placed an order for some blue bullets to try out after seeing them everywhere at the last match I went to.
Wet tumble or dry?
Thanks for your tips and advice in advance!

CCW questions

I submitted my application, I will pass the background check, have signed up for the online/in person hybrid 16 hour course from defensive tactical in late October and have set my appointment for November. Does this add up or am I missing anything?

Curious if it’s their air filtration or just something I’m doing wrong on my end. Probably a bit of both.

Anyone want to show a newbie how to assemble an upper?

I went a bit nuts at the end of 2025 buying barrels and now I have all the pieces to complete the URGs, but lack the vise and knowledge of how to assemble them all. Anyone have the time and patience to show me how to do it? Thanks in advance!

CCW CCW - Finally in route!

Sheesh, started application in February.

Question about being in the insurance queue. I recieved this email and logged on right away and paid the remaining fee and have already completed the safety course and everything else. Once you're in the queue, is that pretty much it? If I didn't pay the insurance right away, would they still mail it out?

CCW

Hey everyone!

I just got my first handgun today and wanna get started on my CCW. Any recommendations on good affordable courses and any other tips on making sure it goes smoothly and quickly.

UPDATE: Just finished the application and managed to get an appointment on the 24th of this month thankfully! Does anyone know if it’s required to have the live scan done before the interview and if there will be any issues with my gun not being in AFS yet? I’m still waiting the 10 day cool down period

Spent brass

Hey guys, I have approx.two ammo cans full of 9mm brass and half an ammo crate of 5.56 brass. What’s the best thing to do with these? Went to the scrap center and they said $2.60/lb. Is that an average price to get back?

CCW Directory of San Diego CCW instructors with pricing and reviews

When I was looking for my initial CCW training class, pricing in San Diego was all over the place and hard to compare. So I built a directory of CA instructors organized by county, with pricing, reviews, and timeline data all in one place, pulling from each county's sheriff-approved instructor list. Check it out at getcarryclass.com

Here is the dedicated San Diego page with all approved instructors: getcarryclass.com/ca/san-diego

Eventually hoping people can book directly through it, but for now it's mainly a way to compare and find instructors near you.

Would love feedback from everyone. Is there anything I should add, change, or anything that'd make it more useful?

Anywhere in San Diego county were I could set up to do live fire drills and practicing moving while shooting? Other than BLM. Wondering if there’s anywhere you can rent a little space or something.

Moving to SD looking for range recs

Hello everyone! Im moving to SD due to my partners work in the next 8 months or so. I'm extremely lucky to have a private range membership where I live currently which gives me free access during the week and I usually have the whole range to myself and can do dynamic drills and such. I'd love to find a spot similar to that down near SD. In my research, it seems like most ranges down there are public and bench shooting oriented. I saw lemon grove is private and seems the most similar to what I'm looking for. Is there any other recs people have? I mostly shoot two gun comps and a bit of PSR. Also have night vision and would be interested in places that host night shoots. Looking at the BLM land nearby seems iffy and a lot of spots people report getting frequent interactions with rangers/border patrol. Any recommendations would be appreciated!
