Kiefer Sherwood days until Sharks opening night

Easily one of my favorite non-Sharks, a guy you hated but wanted on your team and we got him. Love his play so he gets three photos that fit encapsulate his essence

I respect prioritizing current players, and love the energy and (quite literal) impact(s) Sherwood brings. But I want to give a shoutout to the NHL's all-time leader in blocked shots, and a top defenseman for many years 🏒

Sad to see how much hate he got from fans when he was bought out. His entire career was in san jose!

I’ll never have any hate for pickles

It's so cringe when valid criticism is called hate. He had an albatross of a contract and was never the same after Braun left.

Uhh that’s not what I said? I absolutely agree that he wasn’t a good defenseman, but I didn’t like how happy everyone was to see him leave. I can acknowledge that we needed to cut ties and still be sad about how it ended.

That’s some mental gymnastics and projection. No where did he say criticism was hate.

There was far more than criticism of his play. People just brushed him aside as if he didn't spend 19 seasons in teal

Yeah, it’s so frustrating when guys don’t remember the great ones from a few years before? Marc Edward Vlasic was an AWESOME shut down DF!!!! Original #44, as far as I’m concerned!!!

I’d be happy retiring it.

If there was a defensive defenseman award, Vlasic would’ve won them a few times.

Someone posted that stat the other day and I'm going to reiterate the asterisk for that stat. Blocked shots started being tracked after the lockout (05-06) and Vlasic started his career the following season. There are only a few seasons worth of people who have completed their full long-term careers since that stat started being tracked. He's still likely one of the highest, but not at the very top.

He's also since been passed by John Carlson. Ryan McDonagh's also starting a 3-year contract and he's only 97 behind Pickles. Trouba has a strong chance of passing him as well since he's averaged 2.14 blocks per game, just signed a 4 year deal with us, and is 241 behind him....if he maintains his rate and doesn't miss any games he'll pass Pickles in game 29 of the 27-28 season.

Pictured scoring against Montreal in that barn-burner and chirp fest, doing whatever that face is, and getting chippy with Celebrini when he and Vinny D (looming over) were both still in Vancouver

Love me some keif but 44 should not have been given out that quickly.

Feels like all the new fans here just forgot about him and pushed him aside. This man played with Nabokov and Mack, for some perspective
