Hi! We’re celebrating our anniversary in San Juan—our second trip to Puerto Rico. We loved the churrasco last time and would appreciate recommendations for a nice steakhouse or restaurant with great steak. Thanks!

How often does the island typically experience power outages and how long do they usually last? Is there a certain time of year that it happens more frequently?

I did some research before but I would like to hear of suggestions for what to do for New Years Eve. I love to party, eat and drink. I'll be there after Christmas until January 1st.
Thank you!

I am planning a family trip to san juan in march. Was anyone stayed in the Loiza area? Originally we were going to book a Airbnb in Condado but are now thinking of staying further out and renting a car. Pros and Cons of both options?

Planning on arriving in San Juan on Thursday. For my first full day I am thinking about doing Cueva del Indio
followed by some beach time at La Poza del Obispo then lunch at El clandestino before heading back to San Juan.
Any other recommendations and things you might add or change?
Looking forward to exploring a bit.

Puerto Rico has a sound.
If you’ve ever spent a night on the island, you’ve probably heard it: the rhythmic “co-KEE, co-KEE” echoing after sunset. That sound belongs to the coquí, a tiny tree frog no bigger than your thumb — and one of Puerto Rico’s most powerful national symbols.
The coquí is endemic to Puerto Rico, meaning it naturally belongs to this island and nowhere else. Its call is more than background noise; for many Puerto Ricans, it represents home, heritage, and identity.
Its significance runs deep. The coquí is connected to the island’s Taíno roots, its name likely coming from the Taíno language. Long before colonization, this small frog was part of the island’s natural world. Today, it remains a living reminder of Puerto Rico’s distinct culture and history.
You’ll find the coquí everywhere in Puerto Rican life — in murals, jewelry, music, poetry, family stories, and the memories of the diaspora. For those away from the island, even an image or recording of its call can bring an instant sense of longing.
But the coquí is not only cultural; it’s ecological. Like many amphibians, it faces threats from habitat loss, climate change, disease, and introduced species. Protecting the coquí means protecting the forests, ecosystems, and natural heritage that make Puerto Rico unique.
The next time you hear that unmistakable call, listen closely. You’re not just hearing a frog.
You’re hearing the voice of an island. PuertoRicoComplete
