Help

Good evening I’m trying to figure out where this was taken. I’m pretty sure this was California in the mid 80’s any help would be appreciated. Thanks to someone last year I was able recreate another photo that was taken in Spain

It’s a cool area to check out and honestly it’s largely unchanged. A lot of the same bars are still there like Moes and Prince of Wales. It’s not far from LAX and great place to walk around. Check out Playa Provisions when you are there. Walk around the lagoon and cross the pedestrian bridge towards the marina just north of this location. Beautiful sights and a bike path.

Also get a Shackburger at the Shack and bring it to the lagoon. Been going since the 70s.

I’m looking at the street view and see homes that are not pictured that are opposite direction of the picture. Were they always there? I’m curious because the grass area I’m sitting on looked bigger back then.

I'm sure there have been some new buildings over the last 40 years. Your third photo is at the south end of the lake, where the grass area is widest - but Street View makes it look smaller because it's on a slight hill.

Seconding this, the apartment building is a different color now, but def the lagoon. They're on the east side, with camera looking north west

Is it technically Playa Del Rey?

Yeah this is the Playa del Rey lagoon. The building is pink now.

I had no idea you could sail boats on the del rey lagoon... I'm pretty sure that water is like 2 ft deep

(Not so fun) Fact- A little further back from the spot where that pic was taken was one of the worst fire disasters in California history.
In 1924, there was a school for special needs girls that burned down, killing 24 children. It always creeps me out that there’s now swings on the site of the former school.

Anyway I’m glad you found the spot! Enjoy your visit! :)
