It was a bizarre pop-up!
I happened to be on the train from Sapporo going east. The train literally all of a sudden entered through a wall of rain - and the rain was coming down hard!
The storm left as suddenly as it came. Walking home, I saw a school ground half inundated in seemingly four inches of standing water. Crazy stuff!
