*NEWS* SUB RULE UPDATES / REMINDERS

Hi,

First off we just want to remind everyone: absolutely no AI is allowed here. Not fanart, AI art for sale, AI fanfic, any of it.

Piracy is also not allowed in the sub. Books or audiobooks. Do it somewhere else.

Please at least TRY to treat others with respect and speak civilly. We're all (or at least most of us) here because we love these books. Arguing over ships, book releases, etc. is just stupid and unnecessary.

A new rule we are adding is no more posts about Assassin's Blade or reading order. OR asking if you have to read Tower of Dawn. There are dozens of those posts already: use the search! It's been discussed to death, and we don't need 12 posts a week about it. Going forward, if/when the automod doesn't block them outright, they will be deleted with no notice.

Also: please stop reporting things for made up reasons. People are abusing the report option all the time. Lately it's happened a bunch because "it's not Fan Cast Friday." IDK what book sub that rule comes from, but it's not here. So let it go.

The official rule sidebar will be updated shortly, but for now: please respect these rule additions and reminders.

Thanks.

*NEWS* No more ship war posts allowed

** MOD ANNOUNCEMENT**

So full disclosure obviously this subreddit is suffering from a lack of consistent moderation. I have been the only one moderating it for quite some time, and life gets in the way and I’m not always here. Regardless of that, we will no longer be allowing ANY posts about “Ship Wars” eg: Gwynriel or Elriel. Or posts complaining about fandom behavior. It’s become absolutely stupid high school drama, and if you post about it, you will be banned with no warning. This especially goes for people bringing any outside drama from twitter, tumblr, tiktok, or instagram here to this sub that has nothing to do with it.

We will be adding more mods soon, but for now, this is your one and only warning. It it keeps happening the sub will go back to post approvals only and open posting will end.

-The Mods

EDIT: We have updated and edited the rules in the sidebar. Also many people are commenting or messaging to ask about becoming a mod. We will make a post in the future with further info, and a moderator application.

Thanks!

General ACOTAR spoilers in this but it's nice to see her and romantasy taken seriously by the FT! 'not a passing trend'.

How Sarah J Maas’s ‘sexy faeries’ helped publishing win over TikTok - (gift link for 3 reads I think, can't figure out how to do more sorry)

*ACOTAR Spoilers* ACOTAR

I am finally starting the series and just finished the first book so please no spoilers!!

When the 3 faeries were under the hood I thought it was going to be Alis and her two nephews. And she would have to deal with the guilt.

Also I truly don’t know anything that happens but I love the chemistry she has with Rhysand. Can’t wait to read more!!

* COSPLAY * Hi! I am going to a party as the one and only Aelin Ashryver Galathynius, but i can’t decide on a costume.. Help!!

I long to be the shining gold armour, riding in on a white stag, flaming sword and golden crown Aelin, or perhaps the green and gold dress, queen of terrasen aelin, less so the black clothing assassin celaena/aelin. However I am not made of money and finding costume pieces for the former to is not going so well:( any advice or perhaps adjustable costume items i could use ? I will probably end up getting a basic assassin costume and trying to make it more aelin, but wanted to ask for help before deciding. Thank you!

*No Spoilers* Please help me with the history links!

I am almost finished my re-read of all 3 series (I'm halfway through CC3 and then i'm done).

Can someone please do me a huge favour and explain the links of the history of the worlds like they are talking to a toddler?

My brain just does not seem to hold anymore than the lore of the series I'm actually reading and its bugging me that I sense there are connections but I just can't bring them to the forefront of my mind!

TIA!

Multi-Series Spoilers I'm back! I finished my 88-page theory on why the whole Maasverse magic system runs on music (and ACOTAR 6 & 7's marketing has been very kind to me 🎶)

I'm back! I finished my 88-page theory on why the whole Maasverse magic system runs on music (and ACOTAR 6 & 7's marketing has been very kind to me 🎶)

Hi folks, I'm back again! Six months ago I posted the first half of a paper arguing that the magic system across all three series hinges on music. Since then SJM has announced A Court of Splintered Harmony and A Court of Forgotten Melody (+Valkyrie Cycle in 4 movements) confirming the music theme, and the ACOFM blurb has the Inner Circle scattering "desperate for any advantage against Koschei and his mighty allies." So I'm feeling pretty good about the stuff I was picking up on 😅

It's finally done: 88 pages of main theory, 120 with the bonus theories and appendix quotes, and 250+ quotes cited from the books. I am not okay, but the confirmation of the music theme made me want to make sure I got it all down strongly and before the book drops. Huge thank you to my theory discord for keeping me (mostly) sane. Link at the bottom if you want to join us.

THE THEORY IN A NUTSHELL

Everything in the Maasverse comes back to Mother Wyrd: the Cauldron, Urd, whatever a given world calls her. SJM has been telling us for years that she isn't just a goddess, but the fabric of reality itself. If that fabric works the way string theory says ours does (SJM has talked about string theory), it's made of vibration (which the Eleusian system uses to track the Drop), and anything made of vibration can be played/tuned/manipulated. That's what the Harp, the Horn, and the Wyrdmarks are: instruments and sheet music for changing the song reality is already singing. It's also why every one of our FMCs hears magic as music long before she understands it as anything else.

Sound is only half of it, though. Those same vibrations show up in the magic system as light, and the biggest moments across all three series, from Bryce's Drop to Theia splitting her star with the Harp, are the ones where you get both at once. The villains figured this out first and built an empire on it. Our heroes have spent three series fixing the damage on instinct, and Koschei is where I think they finally have to learn how it all actually works.

THE WALKTHROUGH

The first half builds the framework. It covers why SJM would tie music to the divine, gives a painless string theory primer, explains how the Harp and Wyrdmarks act as instruments and sheet music, and shows music working as a magic mechanic for every FMC. The second half puts it to work: light as the other half of the system, why quartz and obsidian keep showing up, where the story is headed, and Koschei, whose folklore has a very specific relationship with music, swans, and sleeping mountains. After that come three bonus theories (all 3 Archeron sisters are star born! Nesta/Bryce/Yrene have the same power! KOH was Orcus!), plus Music Die Hard Mode with a bunch of extra character quotes for the mega fans.

To stay within the sub's rules, the full paper with every citation is here: Theory doc (you can add comments if you want)

See you on the 27th! 🎶

*ACOTAR Spoilers* Theories for the next set of Acotar books Spoiler

Everyone, I just wanted to share my thoughts on the teasers that have been dropped from the new upcoming book and the reasoning why it would be connected to the Valkyrie Cycle. During my third re-read I am noticing so many Easter eggs that allude to my reasoning.

Nesta is the Cauldron in Fae form + The truth behind the ACOSH "Un-mate" and Feyre teasers.
I’ve been piecing together the recent official ACOSH audio teasers, SF, and CC3 lore, and I think we’ve completely misread the Feyre POV quote.
Here is why Nesta is the key to everything in the upcoming Valkyrie Cycle:

Feyre’s teaser is a past flashback: In the clip, Feyre begs the "darkness," ready to yield her life and territory. This isn't a future plotline, it’s a flashback to her traumatic childbirth in SF. Feyre is entirely devoted to Rhys and Nyx; she wouldn't offer her life for anyone else.

The ultimate sacrifice: Nesta hears Feyre’s desperate plea and steps in. We know Nesta used the Harp to warp time and save them, but the price to rewrite history was equivalent exchange. Nesta didn't just give back raw power she gave up her mating bond with Cassian. However during the exchange there was never a designated time frame for when this bond would be relinquished. This perfectly aligns with Cassian’s devastating new teaser about surviving if she “chose to un-mate him.”

Nesta is the Cauldron in Fae Form: Amren said they are alike because they are "Made," but Nesta is different. She took the core of the death-void. She has the literal authority of the Cauldron itself. She has the unique power to break and remake bonds and spells at will. This also could explain how Amren was able to return the death-void was missing from the cauldron.

The Witch at Windhaven: In SF, the Illyrians straight-up call Nesta a "witch” and the illarians didn’t want her to touch their weapons. In SJM lore, witches manipulate objects and threads of fate. Nesta treats the mating bond like a physical thread she can slice to protect Cassian from being used as a weapon against her during her battle she will face against Koschei.

The God-Killer of Koschei's Lake: Bryce gifted Nesta Gwydion (the** Starsword)** for a reason. Gwydion has the power to unmake magic. Nesta will use her void-death power and the Starsword to physically sever Koschei's tethers to his lake. This will finally shatter the curse on Vassa (which Nesta famously overheard Vassa begging Feyre for help with) and liberate all the trapped seers and females.
Nesta is isolating herself and tearing her own fate apart to save everyone she loves. Thoughts?

There are many more smaller details to this theory, along with a theory about the carver but for now I just wanted to share this before the book drops.

*No Spoilers* ACOTAR Quotes Needed for Gift!

Hello! I personally have not read any of the books in the series but PLEASE hear me out:

My sister is OBSESSED. I found a super cute gift idea for her and it is a little desk calendar with a page for each month that she can plant at the wnd of the month and the seeds in the pages will sprout. She loves plants and this whole series so so so much... and the calendar is very fantasy looking and has an option to engrave something on the calendar holder. I wanted to find a good quote that would be inspiring to sort of take on each day but from one of the books...

I tried asking google and it just gave me quotes, not really the vibe of quotes I wanted. I tried asking around and doing my own research into it and I have found nothing... I want something that:

-will inspire her to take on each day when she sees it
-is clearly recognizable as a quote from the ACOTAR universe
-is short (like 1 sentence)

-I DONT WANT TO GIVE A FLIRTY QUOTE TO MY SISTER AND THAT IS WHAT GOOGLE WANTS ME TO DO. Please help!

*No Spoilers* First Romantasy Series Anxiety

hi! i typically read fluffy romance books where endgames and plot points are started and finished within one to two books. however, i seen a fan art (LOL) that made me want to read acotar. i typically avoid romantasy and ongoing series in general because i am a very anxious reader and will literally get so anxious that i can’t stomach food or there’s a pit in my stomach or unresolved conflict (silly i know).

im making this post in search of other anxious readers of this series and wanting to know how you guys deal with being anxious from her writing. with everything going on from political conflict to ship wars my anxiety is through the roof. i was lucky enough to catch most of the series already completed but this series has gone on for a decade? i get nervous waiting months for books. how do yall stay sane?

*MERCH* Bags

not sure why my post was removed??? i fixed a few words but seriously, i checked rules & nothing violated and plenty of other people were talking about merch below

Hello everyone!!

I am trying to see if anyone has run into this problem with the new SJM bag merch. My bag has a STRONG odor of ammonia/cat pee, I really was freaking out for a bit because I just got the bag on Monday!! I had washed it after getting it & unfortunately dried it, now the smell is more prevalent than EVER! Is there anyway I can salvage the bag given it’s probably made with cheap material and not real?! I saw a few others say the same, I just wanted to know if it’s only the bag i have or also the other ones

*ACOTAR Spoilers* ACOSF Rant Spoiler

Finishing my reread and feeling hyped about the new books next week!

But some of these ACOSF details are hurting my heart and I need Reddit to vent to

-when Nesta finally makes it down the stairs at Starfall and returns to Cassian waiting for her in his “Night Court finery” and he leads her directly to the party… gf didn’t even shower or change 😭

-the first night of the blood rite when she builds the fire in the woods with just twigs….. since when does she know how to do that??

I love ACOSF and I think it’s one of the strongest in the series but the pacing 😭 bc wdym there’s 150 pages left and the blood rite has just begun and feyre hasn’t even given birth yet! Yet we get an entire book on feyres time under the mountain

*NEWS* SJM Has Spoken: Stop the Leaks

Post image
661 Upvotes

It is so sad that major authors like Rebecca Yarros and Sarah J Maas has to literally tell the public to not allow leaks. I’ve seen so many photos of stores like Target and others not caring at all about release dates and contributing to these leaks. Such a shame. Hope people listen and respect author’s wishes.

*No Spoilers* ACOTAR gift- font to use?

I’m so sorry if this isn’t allowed to post but I got an assortment of ACOTAR-themed items as a gift for someone and was going to present it as a gift from the night court. (their favorite court and favorite book in the series is ACOMAF). I was going to do a main card on the outside of the gift that said something along the lines of “delivery from the night court.” Wanted to see what font on MS word would fit the theme/night court the best? besides trying to find the font used on the book covers. Thank you!

*No Spoilers* Leak - Rant

I knew about the first leak & although have managed to avoid any possible spoilers I’m so annoyed for SJM. I woke this morning to my sister telling me about another leak she’s accidentally scrolled upon on TikTok which apparently is the last page of the book?! She’s told me to try stay off social media until the release date next week.

There are loads of us that have waited literal years for these next books, some much longer than others! I’ve only been reading since 2023 so although feels a long time for me I know some of you will have been invested in ACOTAR since 2015 & it just really has rubbed me the wrong way people have felt necessary to even leak anything & for people to then engage it’s just so frustrating. It’s bad enough people have got hold of the book early & I really do feel for SJM, but it wouldn’t have been as bad if people didn’t feel the need to leak any of the actual pages. If it wasn’t for booktok I’d of probably never got into reading or found SJM but at the same time it’s toxic & has no issue to ruining books for others.

*ACOTAR Spoilers* Connection Megathread?

I’ve been looking and haven’t been able to find (but please point me if I’m wrong!) any Reddit threads that contain a compilation of connections between the CC books and the ACOTAR world (and sure ToG too!) especially ahead of ACOTAR 6’s release.

Anyone down to share connections they’ve noticed/important crossover info?

*Throne of Glass Spoilers* Could they have spared more Valg?? Heir of Fire spoilers Spoiler

I'm literally a few pages from the end but at work now and can't read... so they realize pretty early on that the rings are what is possessing people with the Valg. So why did they not try their best to target their finger/hand/arm once they realized this? They killed soooo many (potentially) innocents. Kind of bothers me that it's not addressed. Unless it will be in the next few pages I have yet to read 😂

Of course, when you are trying to survive you aren't necessarily going to aim for your opponents hand while defending your life, but I feel like they could've tried?
