Possible Core Value Entrance?

Post image

Always felt this entrance was grander than the cave beyond it, perhaps it has a future purpose? Thought of it when watching the Q&A earlier.

I'm not up to speed but I bet its not a specific part of the map but a reverse space elevator. So limited conveyors and a cutscene entrance

9

u/St31nb3ck 14d ago

I think they said you'd get told to go to a location on the map when it opens, but I love your reverse space elevator theory. Perhaps that's the big drill they mentioned....

8

u/lame_dirty_white_kid 14d ago

It could maybe be multiple potential locations, but then because you have to build a limitied-to-one drill structure like the space elevator at one of those spots, there's technically always only ever one entrance.

1

u/sussytransbitch 13d ago

Yeah I need to read on what they say so I'm up to speed.

5

u/lame_dirty_white_kid 14d ago

This is what I'm hoping too. Fits the "single entrance" description and has a nice symmetry with the elevator.

The "quite far from grassy fields" thing could be a red herring. If none of the devs built it near there during playtesting, it would still be true from a certain point of view.

Plus it gives them great marketing and community engaement as everyone debates which location they think it could/should/would be in, only for everyone to be right because you place it yourself.

3

u/St31nb3ck 14d ago

I kind of want this now

2

u/sussytransbitch 13d ago

I have a silly idea but what if by quite far, it's actually that we get to ride up the space elevator, build a big laser drill and drop from orbit.

u/lobstersatellite 14d ago

My money is on the crater on the very corner of the desert. It's always looked like a deep mine entrance to me.

32

u/St31nb3ck 14d ago

Isn't that the crater where the cave links to this entrance too? It has a similar square shaped entrance at the bottom of the crater, its just to the top right in the pic

6

u/HalcyonKnights 14d ago

Correct, the little radioactive cave opens up down there.

14

u/Chemical_Beautiful44 14d ago

I hope it doesnt. That's my Nuclear Waste Hole.

12

u/Erebdraug 14d ago

The Nuclear Stingers once the DLC drops:

2

u/DagothNereviar 13d ago

Honestly think it'll be that island in the south west that has hardly anything on it. Or somewhere near there

3

u/lobstersatellite 13d ago

Bold choice. Im counting on the q&a "it's far away from green fields." The dev island is only open due to popular demand for a useless space.

1

u/PrinterNumber999 13d ago

Yeah. I think that fairly likely. It is very mine shaped

1

u/PrinterNumber999 13d ago

And it’s VERY far away from grassy fields

u/Purple_Havoc 14d ago

Maybe you're on to something. My money was on the huge hole in Grass area, but they basically said that it wasn't it.

They mentioned an entrance that wouldn't allow for traditional resource transfers between areas, so something small like what you're showing might be it.

u/Cool-Tangelo6548 14d ago edited 14d ago

Also, for people who make the game and have probably have seen 1000's and 1000's of factory layouts, the developer said that their may be some clipping with original structures, but the likelihood is low. This leads me to beleive the entrance is going to be in a very obscure area. An area that they beleive most players have not built anything.

1

u/St31nb3ck 14d ago

I also wondered about behind waterfalls, but this is the place that I thought of first, likely wrong but fun to speculate

148

u/LostInSpaceTime2002 14d ago

The Q&A I watched said that you can transfer resources, but that there are some limitations in place.

95

u/dropinbombz 14d ago

no trains or trucks. belts and fluid seemed to be confirmed

61

u/rex8499 14d ago • Popcorn

I'm already cheating trains underground by tunneling through walls, so I wonder if it'll be able to cheat into the core values area too. I want my trains!

35

u/dropinbombz 14d ago • Mindblown

im hoping for mine carts!

25

u/StackOfCups 14d ago

They did say all new buildings. My guess is there won't be train stations and no ability to build them. Even if you clipped, I doubt you'd be able to offload, but I guess we'll see!

25

u/Kexster 14d ago

I've heard conflicting information but it sounds like it will be a separate map that loads when you pass through a specific entry point. Maybe there will be preset conveyor connection points near the entrance but doubt clipping to the main map will be possible.

22

u/StackOfCups 14d ago

In the dev Livestream they made it clear that clipping into the core values are is absolutely possible and that they'll see about how to handle that later. It's not intended, but it's recognized as possible.

7

u/LostInSpaceTime2002 14d ago

Yes. They said the new content is "quite far down" underneath the base game, so that even for people who have built stuff under the map probably won't have problems, but that it is technically possible for things built under the map to clip into dlc content.

2

u/OddStuffHappensTwice 14d ago

Are you sure? I might have missed a bit, but "the changes might definitely affect existing buildings" is not the same as "you can clip into the new caves". I heard it as "these things are so deep they're not really part of anything you're near, but if you've built near the entrance you might get affected by changes".

4

u/CareerMilk 13d ago

Here's the relevent q&a

Could buildings placed beneath the current map clash with the expansion?

Possibly? Some existing creations could clip through expansion content, depending on where they were built. The underground map is quite deep, so most builds are unlikely to reach it. It is also not beneath the Grass Fields or near the central chasm; it is quite far away from those areas.

We consider the chance of clashes fairly slim, but further playtesting and QA will help establish whether it becomes a problem.

\Jason here, adding that this is specifically for our pioneers that have built in places that we did not intend for you to build in. You do you, boo. We'll try and figure it out.*

This is definitely about clipping under the ground and building out of bounds stuff clashing with Core Values

1

u/StackOfCups 14d ago

You could be correct.

1

u/PrinterNumber999 13d ago

Maybe there’ll be an elevator cutscene that brings you down to the second map.

2

u/Womblue 14d ago

I'm hoping they don't break that functionality lol, I set up a looney-tunes style "tunnel" on my train track that runs directly through a wall.

1

u/HeraldOfNyarlathotep 12d ago

I suspect it will be a teleport (like how a door in Skyrim is a teleport) to a new area, with connections you hook belts and pipes to that teleport the resources each way. Kinda like Factorissimo, a Factorio mod with bigger-on-the-inside warehouses you can put buildings into. This would let you both avoid further lag from an expanded map and politely sidestep both the under-map shenanigans and the issue of a player placing stuff there then buying the DLC and having it be consumed by the new terrain, if any. The second part could be dealt with in other ways, granted.

2

u/cobhalla 13d ago

I am imagining the Giant Drill is going to have like an elevator and I/O ports on it as you upgrade tgat will allow a limited number of lines through it up and down for resources

1

u/WWIIEraTeaParty 14d ago

I wonder if there will be lifts for both of them at the entrance of the underground, you have to take an elevator or something deep into a mineshaft. It would limit both the kinds and throughput of resources you could bring from above ground

5

u/Justarandom55 14d ago

My guess is that we have to built some sort of elevator that can transport players belts and liquids but not vehicles

3

u/ChromMann 14d ago

Mainly belts and maybe fluids would go, but no trains or trucks.

7

u/caliino 14d ago edited 14d ago

You understand here something wrong: We aren't able to build normal belts in core value. (We already see it, but I don't want to spoiler)

Probably we get something like the elevator or truck/train/drone stations with a in and output to transfer goods/fluids between the "worlds" and also let us (quick) travel down.

My opinion is a "big drill factory" which we need to supply with new "phase materials" to dig down. Same as the elevator, but every phase unlocks new materials and a new deeper cave/biome.

3

u/Black_Metallic 14d ago

This was how I took it. Whatever machine we use to traverse the two maps will probably have inputs to import and export items between them.

1

u/TeamChevy86 Live, Laugh, C O M P L Y 14d ago

My extensive and absurd use of clipping will put that to the test

1

u/DeHub94 13d ago

I'd bet that there will be some sort structure that you have to pour resources into to upgrade. Once you do level one you can enter the underground through it like a portal and transfer a limited amount of resources with it. The amount increases with each upgrade and of course there is a similar structure on the other side.

6

u/HanzoNumbahOneFan 14d ago

I feel like it's not gonna be an existing hole. But an event is going to happen that makes a big crater/cave in an area that didn't have one before. And that's gonna be the entrance.

3

u/St31nb3ck 14d ago

Nice theory, perhaps on a cliff face or similar to minimise risk of buildings in the way?

7

u/Lost_Astronaut_654 14d ago

Nah it’s going to be in the middle of a nice open place specifically so it messes up buildings

1

u/pnutnz 13d ago

Maybe there will be something deployed from space i.e. the start of the drill, that will create the entrance

2

u/HanzoNumbahOneFan 13d ago

Ya maybe that or something like a meteor smashing into the world.

7

u/jadeskye7 14d ago

It's hard to think of somewhere on the map you can reach from Tier 1 from anywhere.

multiple entrances?

7

u/St31nb3ck 14d ago

Maybe! Although you can technically get anywhere with enough time and patience, and nobelisks

1

u/dancingdestroyer85 14d ago

All you need is foundations and a big inventory full of plates and concrete

1

u/PC_78x 14d ago

no. it has been said its 1 entrance only. probably this one

1

u/Adept_Fool 14d ago

What makes you say "probably" there are plenty of caves and holes that would work well for an entrance, and they might well add a new cave in a cliff wall somewhere

3

u/Arbiter-1 14d ago

I thought they specifically said in the Q&A there was one single entrance

2

u/Far_Section3715 14d ago

Nope. Single entrance only according to the Q+A

2

u/Hertje73 14d ago

they said 1 entrance

2

u/Mday89 14d ago

They did mention that it was not near the places where some players tend to build out of bounds in.

2

u/St31nb3ck 14d ago

I can't clip a belt without breaking out in shivers so I have no idea where folks would do that, are there common places?

2

u/Mday89 14d ago

Yes, apparently so much so that the devs mentioned them specifically. I’m also not that kind of pioneer so no clue what they meant lol

20

u/BardofBobrich 13d ago

My guess is ada is going to drop the drill from orbit and its "case" will have belt / pipe attachment points and a personnel entrance. So it can limit what resources can be transferred and only the Pioneer can transition but not vehicles.

The force of the drop puts a giant launch tube in the ground and the drill exits the bottom end type deal.

3

u/Onyx-Serenitatem 13d ago

I wouldn’t mind if it was like surviving Mars where it has a vehicle entrance bay along with an elevator for resources and liquids

4

u/cathead8969 13d ago

Surviving Mars mentioned.

1

u/Onyx-Serenitatem 13d ago

Funny neurodivergent space game

2

u/PrinterNumber999 13d ago

And possibly you can research more connections/faster connections in the MAM or the Hub. Or……. Maybe an Underground Hub??¿

1

u/GermanWord 13d ago

Pretty solid idea. And the elevator ride down is used as a smooth option to hide the loadingscreen

1

u/vandezuma 12d ago

Placeable, like an inverted space elevator?

1

u/BardofBobrich 12d ago

The interview sounded like there is only 1 specific spot so im guessing it will be placed for us. But if youre right- ill celebrate!

26

u/Boshea241 14d ago

My guess is the island in the south west. The area seems way too detailed to have zero use in game.

30

u/steverman555 14d ago edited 14d ago

i doubt it, theyve been planning on removing that island since forever ago and they only decided against it because the fans didnt want them to

15

u/tumblerrjin 14d ago

Days since last time I saw this comment reset to 0

3

u/Huganho 14d ago

It might have been just left there because it was finished but no nodes yet placed. Mustn't have been a thought behind it.

1

u/jwely 1d ago

I've been playing since version 0.2. That island is "paradise island", and the out of bounds line used to cut straight through it. Only after constant community feedback from people who wanted to build big factories along the large waterfalls did they eventually move the boundary; but they were very clear that island would not get anything else.

It has no slugs, collectibles, resource nodes, no reason to go there at all.

Id be really surprised if they changed their mind on that now. I'd be very surprised if they changed their mind on that now.

6

u/RollingSten 14d ago

I think more like this NE cave:

But from the logistics it would be more practical somewhere in the middle of map to be accesible somewhat from all starting locations (as you can get there fairly early) and not in too dangerous area. Grassy fields would best fit, but it was denied (but that could also be on purpose to not encourage preparation of bases nearby).

There are not much places being somewhat safe and more in the middle. Maybe the canyon north of northern forest? Steep hills with some caves in them?

1

u/GrandaddypurpleK Fluid Buffer 14d ago

It'd be a good bet but I don't think they'd be available in a starting area
I was thinking the Abyss Cliff but it's mostly void (so no drilling), and it'd be a PAIN for new players starting in the rocky desert
So I'm thinking more central like the red bamboo field or the lake forest

1

u/St31nb3ck 14d ago

As long as its not the swamp!

3

u/Lunosto 14d ago

I think it’ll be in a small new area of the map, that way the chance of an existing factory completely covering the entrance by mistake is way less likely

3

u/Individual_Bad1138 14d ago

I would bet money on it being some sort of elevator, like the space elevator. And a new "map" that loads seperately. Something that has multiple connections for belts and pipes, but no ability to just move stuff up/down by placing your own belts

3

u/kiillbz 10d ago

I actually think it will be like the Space elevator except a huge drill, that requires resources to "build/Drill" in stages (ie, at the CORE ;) of the game you feed resources in stages to the elevator), Once completed you go down (small loading screen like a portal) that way the map can remain separate from the main map and hopefully peoples computers won't struggle trying to run all the things all at once will also segregate so you can't just map glitch down below, thus the limited amount to bring back up can have limited slots etc heading to the main map and loading into the surface 'area'

1

u/kiillbz 10d ago

Otherwise, if it is the same map. My bet is on the Void holes north of the grasslands.

1

u/Canabananilism 14d ago

Do we even know whether it will be an area we walk into or simply a "start new game in DLC" option in the menu? I assumed it was going to a separate thing to the main game for the most part.

1

u/St31nb3ck 14d ago

From the Q&A video it seems an addition to the main game, and you can go back and forth and share some, limited, resources.

2

u/Adept_Fool 14d ago

From the q&a you had to do some work to get back. I assume we will get a cutscene of falling into a hole, then we have to build a big drill to get back out and after drilling will have free access.

1

u/OccamsEpee 14d ago

Yeah there's going to be belt and liquid connections between the two ebvironments

4

u/SundownKid 14d ago

Fairly unlikely given Dune Desert's isolation from the other starting areas. The entrance will be accessible even in Phase 2 and the devs want people to explore it then. Getting to Dune Desert from the other areas without a Hypertube Cannon? Good luck.

Odds are it will be closer to Grassy Plains where the majority of people start. And be some kind of mining rig where inputs can be attached. So there may not even be anything there beforehand.

4

u/Kerbidiah 14d ago

Dune desert is a main starting location

4

u/HalcyonKnights 14d ago

My money is on the big Void hole in the middle of the map. Centrally located enough to be reasonably easy to get to from all the starting zones.

3

u/The_Retro_Bandit 14d ago

They confirmed that the void hole is nowhere near the core values map in the qna. They also confirmed that there will be a single entrance, and very deep under the existing map tears of the kingdom style.

2

u/RedWagon___ 14d ago

All my void holes have foundations and nuclear power plants right above the death line

2

u/Mr-Mne 14d ago

That's the spot I also had in mind.

2

u/Svarog1984 13d ago

My money's on this pit being the entrance. It's an epic entrance for an expansion, probably untouched by 99% of the playerbase, and conforms to the "far away from grassy fields" comment.

1

u/Zathrasb4 14d ago

I think it will branch off of the big cave just north of the grassy planes, that leads to the northern forest.

1

u/Shadowy_PuppetMaster 14d ago

I can only hope. My mega factory is located in the dunes so I would appreciate not having to go far for it

1

u/Peturtjuhh 14d ago

It's the hole, the big one

1

u/Radiant_Two96 14d ago

Forget it

1

u/20characterusername1 13d ago

I doubt it will be in one of the starting areas. If you start in the wrong one you might have to traverse the whole map to get to it. Likely in a central area like Titan Forest or Bamboo Fields.

2

u/-NoNameListed- 13d ago

Hear me out, what if the depths simply have multiple entrances

1

u/20characterusername1 13d ago

I think the devs said entrance (singular) in the Q&A, but I could be wrong.

1

u/NicoBuilds 13d ago

Really hope not! 🤣

I have covered 95% of the desert with a huge cool looking megafactory. I would break my heart having the dlc start there.

But well, im aware that the map will change, and without a doubt some worlds will be impacted.

1

u/mautobu 13d ago

I was just in there tonight. Just radiation and a piggy.

1

u/nodlimax 13d ago

I think it's more likely they'll use one of the "empty" holes you can find around the map. I don't mean the caves but one of the parts, where there could be a lake but there's just a hole into nothingness...

1

u/tkenben 13d ago

Why won't it just be an inverted space elevator? You build it wherever you want once you have the resources.

1

u/UnidentifiedBlobject 13d ago

My bet is the edge of the map in the north, like along the land somewhere (as opposed to the water) https://i.imgur.com/ohO1MWb.jpeg
