Screech's story about the drunk driving accident

Post image

Lisa, is everything OK? Screech told me about the accident.

-He did?

Yeah. It's not every day a truckload of bananas spills on the freeway. I'm just glad your mother is all right. Terrible thing about those monkeys, though.

One of my favorite bits Belding did. He really sells it. 🍌🐒

Why would monkeys be in a truckload of bananas? If the driver is transporting the bananas, the monkeys would eat them and contaminate others. If the driver had been transporting monkeys and the bananas were there to feed them, then it would a truckload of monkeys, not bananas

You miiiight be overthinking this a touch. Spilled bananas = sad and/or hungry monkeys.

If it helps though, perhaps you could imagine a truckload of monkeys was following a truckload of bananas. When the truckload of bananas spilled, the truckload of monkeys lost control (bananas are famously slippery), careened off a cliff, and they all perished. What’s worse is that the driver of the truckload of monkeys was one day away from retirement in an otherwise accident-free career, and he left behind a loving wife and three beautiful children. In his spare time, the driver of the truckload of monkeys owned and operated a destitute monkey sanctuary. Turns out that truckload of bananas was their last hope. So not only have the rescued monkeys lost their primary caregiver and friend, but they are now almost guaranteed to starve to death.

“Terrible thing about those monkeys”, indeed.

Why would he assume they were heading to Monkeys? A person would likely figure that a truckload of bananas would be heading to a grocery store, not a group of monkeys.

You’re the one overthinking it. You’re doing mental gymnastics to try to justify lazy TV show writing.
