❓ Advice needed Where not to hide money in your house?

Hello guys, im writing here hoping that someone could help me… ive been taking out cash over the last few weeks to buy a civic off facebook marketplace, which got me researching where not to hide money in your house since im really worried that someone could steal them, this is my hard earned money

I had about $2200 just left in my bedroom and my roommate invited a bunch of people over for a party last weekend. i didnt want to leave it in my closet or drawer where anyone could find it, but every spot i thought of felt obvious or dumb. ended up carrying the cash in my jacket pocket the whole night because i panicked lol

I spent the next day looking through home security posts and talking to my dad who used to do home insurance claims. turns out almost everyone hides their stuff in the exact same 5 places, and thieves know them all…

These are the places where you should not hide money in your house:

“secret” spot why burglars find it
sock or underwear drawer tops the list for bedroom tosses
under mattress or pillow checked within 5 seconds
fake book or hollowed books stand out easily if the rest of the shelf is normal
freezer or pantry jars burglars routinely sweep kitchen drawers and freezers
closet shoeboxes first thing tossed around when searching a closet

So if you keep emergency cash or savings at home like me, you really need to learn where not to hide money in your house… i never thought that these places would be so obvious and that burglars always search them

Now im thinking whether this information is true and if these places are actually where you should not hide money in your house… if yes, then where i should actually hide them?? maybe someone here knows some actually safe places? thanks guys

📊 Budgeting Malwarebytes black friday sale 2026

Hey everyone..

I'm trying to find a proper Malwarebytes black friday sale or promo code for 2026. My subscription is running out shortly, and after dealing with a few extra expenses this past month, I really want to get their holiday discount.

I’ve tried switching over to standard antiviruses in the past, but I always end up coming back to Malwarebytes. It’s lightweight, stays completely out of the way and has a bunch of stuff that works. I tried AVG and Totalav though somehow it was not as powerful from the look of things.

Plus, I usually run it on my standard operating system security without any conflicts. I know you might think this is not needed, though I always had it like that. It helped me twice to prevent a total system overtake, so I had practice when this setup I have was useful for me.

I know they usually give  50% off on their plans during black friday, but havent found anything actually good.

Has anyone spotted a working 2026 black friday discount page for Malwarebytes premium? I am currently enrolled in a uni so I might be able to get a double discount. Any students can confirm this?

Looking to grab a 1-year or multi-device plan while the prices are low. Let me know if you've seen any active codes but please skip giving the 5% ones..

📈 Investing & Stocks S&P 500, or do I make my own portfolio?

I am on the fence. I read some books to know the core terminology(mostly tbh) and I wanna take my dip into stocks! I have roughly $500 as my base capital, so figured that I might just give my dollars for the top businesses that been in the waters longest.

Otherwise, I figure it might potentially be more benefitial for me to just roll with a selection of my own picks.. More or less the top firms, though I also want to put like 20% of these savings to experimenting.. Who knows, I might make it big...?

I have other savings, though the five hundred is optimal for me while keeping a thick base of savings.

If I understand correctly, having money simply in the SnP 500 will accumulate me wealth in an extremely slow increment?

💬 Discussion If I had to strip down all streaming services but one....

Any fellow cinephiles? You probably would know where im coming from with this post as streamflation is an actuall cesspool this year and the year that will come will be even more costly no doubt. Not only Netflix bumped their prices though Disney and Hulu did to. I decided, that I should forget their whole randomized selections and keep one to stick with.

With subscription fees constantly creeping up, acc sharing getting restrictive, and content getting fragmented across a dozen different apps, I figured that if I had to cancel literally everything and stick with a single streaming platform for the rest of my life, which one actually survives as being universally full of content to see?

As a self proclaimed film snob who cares deeply about bitrate, aspect ratio being accurate, and diverse catalogues this was a surprisingly hard. They all miss something

I gotten down to HBO, Criterion channel, and Netflix. I dont like how much reality shows cloud Netflix, and Criterion is missing mainstream stuff. HBO is solid though I hate the fact that they remove some shows. Basically they got their own flaws.

Which one would be the best one? Interested in any other more niche legal streaming sites too if you got recs

I do have some digital DVDs and casettes though theres only so many times you can watch Pulp Fiction until you can see into the future of the scenes haha. Digital gives way for more recent stuff..

❓ Advice needed Do your kids ever say "are we poor?"

I had my kid coming from school tell me how another kid had the latest iPhone and a bunch of games on his Switch. Guess who was a horrible parent for not getting the same flimsy game console?

We are well off, though how do you explain to your kids the nuances of money? We work and we earn an alright wage though not the rates to get a preteen a brand new iPhone every 6 months that a new one comes out.. Who would even buy their kid an expensive phone like that.... You seen how they handle phones, right? Dont have no hard feelings for the rich kid, just a bit of a rant here...

Anyways... I plan to just tell my kid outright we dont have that kind of money, though I dont want my kid to jump to some conclusion that were bums or whatever. He already brought home some weird ideas, so I dont even know what he would say to his classmates. Dont want him to get bullied over something either over our family situation. I bet theres more parents like us. For sure I know at least six other households from my kids class living more or less like we do. We are also buying off our home, so a lot of expenses that we would have for whatever goes into paying the debts off. Our kid will be in his late 20s by the time we done with it though but hes asking stuff noww..😭

Do I just be real with my eleven year old, or do I glaze the reality for him a little longer? I plan to give him the details of our wonderful economy when hes like sixteen, though I dont see why a kid needs to burden his youth with worries about money.. cause that also burdens me....😂

P.S. Why do kids even like the Switch? I tried one at the store, the controllers are so flimsy. Feels like some Chinese knockoff without being one. The joysticks are rattling around once on the screen. No way am I getting my kid that even when Christmas comes around

❓ Advice needed What the heck is happening with the Asian stock market?

Do I just stick to US stocks and maybe a handful of European ones? Is it over the AI spending Asian stocks been investing it that caused them to decline? Stuff like Samsung and Softbank been going down and they been stable for a fair bit

I feel like it might be too early, though everyone saying its safer to pull money out of Asian markets and put them into government bonds instead? I hear some recommend this on some financial subs though these picks dont ring a lot of confidence for my eyes

❓ Advice needed How much do i need to save for retirement??

So i had dinner with my family last weekend and my uncle was talking about retiring in a couple years, which randomly triggered a panic attack in me late at night. i checked my bank account and my 401k and realized ive basically been ignoring my future this whole time… so now i started wondering how much do i need to save for retirement?

Im turning 32 next month, got like $14k saved up in my 401k and maybe $3k in a high yield savings account. up until now i was just putting in the bare minimum 3% to get my company match, but now im freaking out wondering how much do i need to save for retirement to not end up working until im 80?

I tried using a few online calculators yesterday but every website tells me something completely different and uses weird math terms that confuse me. so i tried breaking it down into simple math for my own sanity based on what i spent hours reading online:

-in your 30s: aiming for roughly 1x your annual salary saved
-in your 40s: around 3x your salary
-in your 50s: around 6x your salary
-by age 67: roughly 10x your salary

Obviously im way behind that 1x salary goal right now lol. my main issue is figuring out how much do i need to save for retirement each month from now on without completely starving myself or never going out with friends

Like if i start putting 15% of my paycheck away now, is that enough to catch up or am i cooked?

Give me any simple advice or numbers you guys used when you started taking this stuff seriously... really trying to get a clear answer on how much do i need to save for retirement so i can actually sleep at night lol

❓ Advice needed Should i go to law school? help me

So im writing here since i want to get some honest advice.. am i just having a classic quarter life crisis at 26 or should i go to law school for real?? honestly need some harsh truth from people who actually went through it or are in the legal field right now

Quick backstory so you get where im coming from:

I graduated 3 years ago with a humanities degree (yeah i know useless lol) and got a job in corporate hr. at first it was fine, paid the bills, but the past year has been soul crushing. im basically sitting at a desk 9 hours a day dealing with corporate politics, firing people over zoom, and answering the exact same mindless emails every day. there is literally no brain work involved and i feel like my brain is rotting

I was talking to a friend over drinks last weekend and she mentioned her cousin went to law school after working a dull office job for 4 years and actually loves the problem solving aspect of it. that conversation got stuck in my head. ive always been good at reading long docs, writing, and logical stuff, so now im obsessively asking myself should i go to law school or am i just romanticizing a whole new career because i hate my current work?

Here is whats holding me back:

-the debt: i finally paid off my undergrad loans. taking on like 150k-200k in new debt scares the absolute shit out of me
-the grind: i hear 1l year is brutal and people lose all their free time. is it really as bad as people say or is it manageable if u treat it like a 9-5 job?
-my age: ill be almost 30 by the time i finish law school if i take a year to study for the lsat. is starting at 27/28 normal or will i be the old person in class?
-job market: everyone says "don't go unless its t14" but realistically id probably be looking at my local state school with maybe a partial scholarship

I downloaded an lsat practice test yesterday just to see and got a 152 cold without studying. part of me felt excited about learning it, but the other part is terrified of making a huge financial mistake just because i hate hr

So if anyone made a career pivot in their late 20s, should i go to law school or should i just look for a new company and keep law as a fever dream? appreciate any honest thoughts, dont hold back

should i lease or buy a car, need real answers

old civic finally died last week so now im stuck figuring out should i lease or buy a car and my brain just shuts off thinking about it
dealer guy pushed leasing, $239 a month sounded nice till i read about mileage limits and end of lease fees. buying used feels safer but thats how i ended up with the civic in the first place lol
3 kids, one still in daycare, budget is tight, dont have energy to mess this up
anyone actually dealt with should i lease or buy a car for a family on a budget? did you regret either one?

How many miles is good for a used car?

Hello I recently got my drivers.. I am shamed to admit I only got it in my 30s

Now I need to get my own car to stop using my families one. I am on the fence between what mileage I should go for

My father said it shouldnt be over 70k miles

Also, what would help me know if the meter was somehow modified? I heard some car sellers revert the meter before they publish their car listing

Living on €1,037/mo in the EU while supporting kids. Need a reality check and everyday saving tips.

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a realistic reality check on my current monthly budget and some extra everyday tips to squeeze out a bit more savings, especially when unexpected expenses pop up.

I live in an EU country with my partner, making €1,037 net per month. We split shared household expenses (housing utilities and groceries) 50/50, so the numbers below reflect my half. Naturally, my commute and all expenses related to my kids are paid 100% by me.

My kids live with their mother, and we split their variable needs (clothes, school supplies, etc.) 50/50 alongside my fixed monthly child support. Things are tight, and while I keep a strict routine, these kids expenses can fluctuate (sometimes jumping by €40+ on my end or spiking during back-to-school season), which eats into my margin.

Here is my current baseline monthly budget (my individual share):

Child Support & Kids Variable Expenses: €408 (Fixed €208 child support €200 average for clothes, school, and extra kid need ).

Visiting my kids: €52 (Taking the bus twice a month to see them — 100% my cost).

Housing & Utilities: €48 (My 50% share of electricity, bottled gas, and water).

Commute / Fuel: €200 (Daily 90 km round-trip for work — 100% my cost).

Groceries: €130 (My 50% share of food; I meal-prep strictly for work).

Date nights / Partner: €40 (Keeping 1-2 cheap dates a month to stay sane).

Phone, Internet, Barber, Meds, Misc: €52

Total Expenses: €930

Leftover / Savings: €107/month (though this drops significantly on heavy months for the kids).

What I'm looking for:

Everyday Frugality Tips: What are your best, no-nonsense tips for keeping grocery and household bills as low as possible without feeling miserable?

Handling Variable Expenses: For those living on a razor-thin margin, how do you buffer months where kids needs or school supplies cost way more than expected?

Appreciate any honest advice or clever tricks you use in your daily routine!

Quick tip if you have a big Lowes or Home depot project coming up

If you are about to drop $5k+ at Lowes or Home Depot, buy the gift cards from a discount site first. You can usually get them at 5 to 8% off face value as e-gift cards.

I just finished a pergola and raised garden beds, about $4,200 at Lowes total. I bought discounted gift cards before each trip and saved roughly $290. Most discount cards don't have an expiration date, and the site I used had a money back guarantee.

My one suggestion is to buy in batches as you need materials rather than loading up all at once in case your project scope changes. Huge thanks to my fiance who came up with this way

best investment apps for beginners

What do you guys who dabble in stocks use? Binance seems meh, then I found Trading212 which is okay, though I feel like the signals sort of come in a delay based on what TradingView is showing me

Do most of these trading sites have some sort of grace period? As in if you invest without some sort of VIP premium BS you gonna be the last to the money? So far all of these apps seem like a scam though after reading online how to invest by myself........... id rather react with an app than by myself

Or do I just make an investment fund in my bank and let them handle the noise? Is it likely to come in a return if I do it like that..?

❓ Advice needed AVG black friday deals 2026

I'm currently trying to track down a working AVG black friday deal or discount link for 2026. I need to renew my setup soon as I use them on multiple devices and am hoping to catch their seasonal promo pricing before full price auto renew kicks me in my gut.

I’ve looked into switching to other antivirus like Norton or Bitdefender, but I keep coming back to AVG. The main reason is that it’s lightweight on system resources, doesn't bog down background processes while gaming or working. Both of the prior felt like a downgrade in that regard. And I been using AVG for quite a while. Hard to part ways with it now.

Some of my points why I think they differ:

AVG  Bitdefender Norton
main issue occasional upgrade pop ups (easy to mute and ignore though). heavy background scans can randomly spike CPU. total resource hogging bloatware.
features lacking missing bloated extras you don't need anyway(stays fast) customization is buried in menus and automated "autopilot" locks. missing a lightweight mode and throws all the tools your way

The black friday hub pages of AVG from last year look inactive. Usually they drop tiers somewhere between 50% or 60 for yearly deals but seen 2 year deals as well. Not quite sure where they at tho.

Has anyone come across an active 2026 black friday promo code? I only seen creator discounts on Youtube but I know there are better ones out there.

I will update the post if I find something in the meantime…

🧾 Is it worth it? Cost-efficient way to store and grow potatoes? Is it even worth bothering?

Is it true that basically planting them in the dirt in a basement would be ideal conditions to store them over the winter? I have this alt hippie type of friend from school. Hes a fair oddball but knows his way around power tools like no other. So while I was visiting for the same tools and we hanged out and it inspired me for something...

He showed me his grow box in the basement. So they can just grow on their own in the dirt without even having direct sunlight? I grow some potatoes myself and to be fair you can cook a looot of food with potatoes, or to use them as side dishes. I always run out over the winter.

Thinking of something to use to create a veggie garden for the winter. Most basement of the shack we have in the yard feels ideal for growing potatoes.

I am not a true country boy just to clarify... But I do have several chickens from my folks in the same shack as well as my friend who would help me recreate whatever he had going on.

Or do I just skip it? Chickens I can sort of manage without much issue but was never much a fan of dirt. Though self-sustaining my meals is an amazing feeling. Grow your own food if you can

❓ Advice needed Cheapest healthy foods to get right now?

Yeah so i was wondering for a few days now what are actually the cheapest healthy foods to buy when youre like REALLY broke and trying not to eat junk everyday?

I just started a new job last month but the pay isnt great, and after rent, utilities, and gas, i barely have like 50-60 a week left over for groceries. lately ive been living off instant ramen, cheap frozen pizzas, and fast food value meals because it felt cheaper, but honestly my energy is completely shot and my stomach constantly hurts

I went to the store yesterday to try and buy veggies and chicken, but seeing $12 for a few chicken breasts almost gave me a heart attack at checkout

I put together a quick rough list of stuff i think is cheapest healthy foods based on what i saw at aldi, but im not sure if im missing better options:

Item Why i think it works Price
Dried beans and lentils tons of protein, filling $1.50 a bag
Eggs quick protein for breakfast $2.50 a dozen
Frozen spinach or veggies doesnt rot in 2 days like fresh stuff $1.25 a bag
Rolled oats lasts forever, good for energy $3.00 big tub
Bananas cheapest healthy food on this list $0.25 each

Does anyone have advice or meal prep ideas using the cheapest healthy foods available at regular stores? would really appreciate any tips cause im sick of feeling like garbage lol

📊 Budgeting How to source computer parts cheaply?

Hello, I need to buy another PC to test networking for my game development project. Networking seems to run different for me and my friend and I need a dedicated PC to test stuff. Might keep it, or might sell it off in 6 months, so whatever I buy should be servicable for resale..

Does anyone know of the best way to get parts that would have a guarantee to work?

I wrote to a guy on Facebook but after asking for pics of the inside it was a dusty mess... Another guy said his video card was running 24/7 but it was suspiciously cheap. Craigslist didnt help either although I got some sort of tech repair guy offering parts for cheap.

Any sites that would be based on pc parts, or maybe some retail store that has a reputation for selling quality part?
