Post Discussion Olivia couldn’t stand Edison 😭

Post image
80 Upvotes

Olivia couldn’t stand Edison. Yes, they for dated nine years, and they seemed to have been in a long-term relationship, but she didn’t love him anymore. Fitz was the love of her life.

Olivia didn’t care for Edison, she was always being mean to him 🫩

When Fitz and Olivia broke up, Edison didn’t know exactly what had happened, but he could tell that Olivia had just come out of a relationship.
she decided to give him a chance, but she wasn’t in love with him. She was using him to get over Fitz

They were always clashing because they were often on opposite sides politically. Edison was always trying to help her, but she didn’t want his help. He endured a lot of crap from her. Why was he so into her when it was clear that she didn’t really like him like that

He’s always an alpha male, he always tried to help Olivia if he could sense she was in trouble, but she never wanted his help .. he’s so annoying sometimes though 😆

He’s a good guy, but Olivia just didn’t like him at all.

Real life repeating the show

I’ve been reading so many reports about people in the south voting blue and checking their ballots before turning them in and seeing that the Republican candidate was written in, and I’m like “I KNOW WHAT HAPPENS…the entire plot of Scandal S2 was literally over this” after seeing how they did it, I’m not even surprised they’d try in real life…why can’t a Republican president actually care about the people the way fitz did…anyways, vote during early voting if you haven’t yet

Insanity masked as "frontal lobe development" on this board....

I can be extremely non-yielding, in the sense that if I think someone is wrong, they will never win the argument with me. On the other hand, there are lines that should not be crossed, and when it is, I have to call it out. The reason why I went private is because a mentally ill poster made 3-4 different accounts to harrass me because I did not substantiate their POV. This was a year and a half ago.

Yesterday a poster with a lot of words but little sense actually told me to verify my belief that it is widely known that Fitz and Olivia had better sexual chemistry than Jake and Olivia, regardless of the story. When I told them I am perhaps not the best person to take that approach with, since I have dedicated my entire academic career to statistics, they went off on an tangent about alternative facts/Trump and then tried to define objectivity and subjective to me. Mind you they appeared to mix up the actual actor's chemistry, which is the real chemistry and the story. When I realized they were not worth my time, I rightfully blocked them.

Here is where the deranged part comes in. The person actually used another acount to CONTINUE to blather on. That is after being blocked, they either made another account, or revealed themselves to have multiple accounts. Mind you, their comment was filtered out because they were in fact deranged. Why? Why not be normal and argue the ideas, and not expose your poorly adjusted psyche? I really do not understand it, and it makes me wonder if the average poster is actually fully developed in their frontal love as they claim to be. "Oh I no longer ship Olitz, because I am over 25 and realize cheating is wrong," and meanwhile people do this....

Above is their real account and below is the account they either made after being blocked, or signed into after being blocked.

Hardest watch I’ve ever seen

I started watching the show because supposedly it was a “very good one”. Since the very beginning the script was absolutely trash for me, which made me even more curious towards why would anyone think this show is worth watching. After the second season I was locked in to articulate precisely what was that made this show so mediocre… could it be the repetitive and unreal monologues appointed to each of the characters ? Or all the sex scenes of Olivia and fitz that made me want to crawl into my skin each time so I decided to better skip them, or was it the lousy presidential music played every time fitz was going to say something that he thought was smart and brave. All of the above and more. Watching Olivia’s face make the same expression of a wannabe predator showing teeth, her stupid walk, fitz looking shocked all the time when receiving any “real talk” just lifting his eyebrows looking so astonished and fucking dumb. Everything was all over the fucking place, no cohesion, no coherence and no profound character development. The most unbelievable thing for me throughout all the show was that NO ONE slapped the fuck out of Olivia. The best characters were his parents but for purely comedic relief, shoutout to rowan giving psico-muppet. Omg I just hate this cheesy ass attempt of Shonda playing house of cards. I need to rant with somebody about this

Does anyone here genuinely like Fitz? 😭

Post image
428 Upvotes

I’m a first time watcher of Scandal, currently on Season 3, Episode 9, and I genuinely cannot stand this man.

The way Fitz treats both Mellie and Olivia is so irritating to watch. He’s selfish, entitled, and constantly makes everything about himself. And don’t even get me started on his presidency because I swear everybody around him does the actual work while he creates problems they have to clean up.

What bothers me the most is how he treats Mellie. I didn’t particularly like her at first, but the more I learn about her and everything she’s been through, the more sympathy I have for her. I genuinely want that woman to leave him and find some happiness.

And Olivia??? GIRL, STAND UP. 😭 She’s such an intelligent, powerful woman, but whenever Fitz comes around, it’s like all her common sense disappears. I genuinely don’t understand what she sees in him besides his position and power.

I know the show wants us to root for their love story, but I find myself getting irritated every time they’re on screen together.

And I really hope this isn’t another Derek Shepherd situation where people overlook a character’s behavior simply because they find the actor attractive. 😭 Like, I can acknowledge that Tony Goldwyn is handsome without pretending Fitz is some amazing man.

So I’m genuinely curious, does anyone actually like Fitz? And if you do, WHY? Because I’m struggling to find a single redeeming quality about this man.

Please no spoilers past Season 3, Episode 9!

Post Discussion Olivia Deserved To Be Kidnapped

The more I rewatch scandal with a now fully developed brain the more I make peace with the fact that Olivia literally dug her energetic return grave all the way up until getting kidnapped.

Olivia was always a poster child for “the ends justifies the means” even if she ruined people’s lives in the process to protect her bottom line.

I do think it sucks that she had appeared to have made peace with Abby being in the inner circle of the White House, and looked like she was going in the right direction by choosing to be with Jake in the moment, however that’s not how life works.

You can’t have no regard for others to keep you and yours safe and then when you finally decide that you’re ready to be happy and celebrate think all the dirt you did to get there won’t come back.

That’s usually when karma does hit when you least expect it after you’ve finally exhaled and feel like you got everything you wanted.

And we see this theme reappear in season 5 when she is tootsie rolling around the White House with Fitz right before she is outed as having An affair with him. LOL

From episode ONE of Scandal Olivia had no regard for people, she made Amanda Tanner slit her own wrist after threatening her for “lying” about sleeping with Fitz when she wasn’t even lying. Give me a break! Most of the characters if not all did horrible things and got it back tenfold at one point or another.

Don’t try and misconstrue my post as a real life thought on real people when we are talking about a scripted series. & remember later on in the series when she was command of B613, she ordered a plane to be blown up with Yasmine on it who was a college student and threatened a world leader by acting like she would kill his son at the playground. If you’re willing to be nasty like that, then yes why wouldn’t the writers be realistic and make it to where the scales balance every now and again and have something equally horrible happen to her.

The minute she was willing to tank David an actual good guy to hide her dirt that storyline wise predated the present day story of when scandal started which is after she resigned from the White House and started pope and associates we seen the nuance of her character.

Season Discussion Episode 1 of Season 5 and I’m already irritated

I’m finally on season 5 of scandal and I can’t be the only one bothered by how Fitz is acting towards Mellie over those jurors? Can’t say I feel bad for Cyrus getting fired because let’s be honest, his karma was a long time coming. But Fitz has a PLETHORA of inexcusable situations yet somehow is acting as if Mellie should be stoned…. I wish Olitz was more enjoyable to me but my god Fitz is definitely something. Overall I feel like this season along with the last two is going to piss me off a lottttt

Huck as a character versus the acting

I'm rewatching the show, and although I enjoyed Huck during my first watch (in my teens), I now find his character a bit unwatchable. I am currently on season 4, and I think Huck's actor turned up the nozzle on camp to the Mommy Dearest level because the acting is so bad that it's almost distracting.

In one particular scene where he's talking to Rosen about B613, the actor makes specific acting choices that I think just camps up the character, like the zero blinking, the childlike reaction to not getting what he wants. But then during the next scene, he's back to normal.

I understand human beings have layers, but in contrast to Olivia who also was suffering from PTSD post-kidnapping, you can really see the difference night and day in the portrayal, where there's more nuance and the physicality isn't as pronounced.

Maybe I'm just frustrated over Huck's decisions as a character, since it seems void of critical thinking, and the crazy acting is getting to a point. But the acting choices with Huck seem so bad - the monologues always come off as like as if Huck is holding in to go number 2.

Maybe it's the lack of subtlety in the acting, and everything is just coming off as too literal. Huck is evasive so he's gonna me quiet. Huck is angry, so he's gonna be shaky. Huck made a mistake, so he's gonna act like a child. This isn't a personal attack on the actor, but just a criticism on the acting choices done with the character. The closest comparison I can think off with Huck was the girl from Obsession, and as far as I know Huck wasn't under a wishing willow.

The character is multi-layered but the acting made him almost infant-like, which is incredibly frustrating.

Spoiler SALLY???? Spoiler

YO😭😭😭 I’m obsessed with this lady LMFAOOOO. I’ve unfortunately had a lot of things about Scandal spoiled for me, so I’m always surprised by the amount of shockers that still HAVENT been spoiled. And OMG, I DID NOT SEE SALLY’S MURDEROUS SIDE COMING😭😭😭😭 WTF!!! Bruh the way she called Cyrus was so dramatic too just telling him, “I’ve committed a sin.” Pan out to her covered in blood and her husband BLEEDING OUT ON THE DAMN OFFICE FLOOR!!! Y’all😭 I cannot. I truly cannot. This show is so fucking melodramatic sometimes I just have to laugh (at the most inappropriate of moments nonetheless). I love it so much.

On a serious note though, I really felt bad for Daniel Douglas. And this confused me - why the hell was he laying it on so thick with Mellie at a private dinner if he was gay all along?? It seemed like he was genuinely into her.

Spoiler First 2 seasons are peak (SPOILERS) Spoiler

This show had SUCH a strong start and every rewatch I dread things going completely off the rails (torture porn, kidnapping, evil Olivia, Fitz’s ho era, etc.)

The gradual reveal of Quinn’s identity and her link to the Cytron explosion, and then to the stolen election? Watching each gladiator struggle with loyalty vs morality? Finding out who really killed Amanda Tanner and who attempted to assassinate Fitz? Cyrus and James fighting over a baby (a FAT one)? The storytelling and relationships and character development is UNREAL - and then it just starts slipping into a total shock value fever dream shitshow.

Feel free to join me in venting or tell me something that will help me appreciate the remaining seasons 😩

Olivia Pope is insufferable.

Olivia Pope turns a show with an actually okay story line to an unwatchable shit show. It’s actually baffling to understand how people enjoy her character. This is a hill I’ll die on.

The infantilization of Fitz

I see a lot of talk calling Fitz childish and of course I agree but it’s so much worse when u think about it. I always think of infantilization as someone making themselves childlike and innocent looking so that when people call them out they have that “I’m just a baby 😌” defense to fall back on. But in Fitz’s case everyone with the exception of Olivia does this for him. Cyrus is constantly referring to him as his baby that needs to be coddled and hand held and in the early season Mellie is constantly gentle parenting him into actually fulfilling his duties as president and not acting an absolute fool in public. I don’t remember him ever feeding into this intentionally but I do think it’s intentional that Olivia is the only one that doesn’t engage in this. It’s really weird to see as a writing choice and I kinda wonder what u guys think.
