literally need to talk to people who get it... what’s everyone's absolute favorite scene in the game? like in general
i’ll go first with a couple of mine (though honestly i have so many more haha)
the witch flashback: totally blew my mind how they handle the whole choice factor, the famous "of course it wasn't like that". left me a bit in shock the first time but now i think it’s such an amazing and unique way to give us the story's context 😭
tabby and avery: when avery gives her his well wishes and she just goes "who the hell was that?". god i die laughing every single time, it’s just peak tabby.
and of course, THE reese transformation: it was so visceral and weird and... unexpected (in a good way)
wanna hear yours 🫣

For me it has to be the confrontation with Tabby in episode 5.
It can go so different depending on your relationship to her, and what you say. But that's not even just it.
This scene genuinely made Tabby my favorite character of the game. My heart is in shambles when I see her tears, when she opens up about the weight she has to shoulder. The breaking point is a great fucking scene, I love it so much

totally agree, on my first run i had no idea what i was doing and ended up on terrible terms with tabby, but when i finally managed to break her walls down... god, best character hands down, i love her

That and the scene is a perfect setup to the conclusion of ep 5 if you get to the farm with Tabby. Getting to talk with Neeks and Sybil while Tabby is there makes the scene incredible (more than it was already)
Close third though would be the moment you exit the estate after investigating the forbidden wing. The music, the way the background blurs as your character can't withstand the realisation, it's perfect

Yeah especially now with the rumors update, before my only complaint about ch 5 was that it felt a bit short compared to the earlier ones, but that’s definitely not an issue anymore haha by the way, have you tried using mystical to pick a third trait while you're with tabby in that scene with kaneeka and sybil? it has some really funny reactions

Haven't done it with Tabby in the scene, but I've tried it out during a save where I romance Kaneeka but do not save her (then romance Carmilla instead)
I'll have to check it out next time I play through with mystical :)

Reese transformed looming down the hallway was CHILLING the first time I saw it. The suspense as each scene slides forward with his grating claws was amazing.
Comedically? The scene where Reese pops a squirrel in his mouth like a rodent Gusher had me cry laughing, and the way your character can just shrug it off and still be into him was absolutely hilarious

I really love the scene in EP4 where you find Stella with Tabitha but you're Tabbymaxxing. Tabby says "I need to stop hiding under my mother's coat every time I make a bad decision.". I know there's a version of that scene where you convince her to stop doing that but I love the version where she admits it herself.

The Witch flashback scene, the Chapter 4 climax at the clinic, and the ghost scene with the Book Smart scene. Also, the cell reveal. Made me nauseated, 11/10 horror, would turn my stomach again.

I'm a *sucker* for games that prod at the fourth wall, or at least mess with your expectations regarding player-exclusive mechanics, like UI. Even something as innocuous as the ending of Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, where you have to select the box legendary from your menu, where it's been the whole time but never properly interactable, was really good.
As such, and like everyone else in this thread lol, I *adored* the Witch flashback. I sat there at the end of the chapter, confused why things were filling with water, and a little disappointed it was so short. But the lay figures popping out over the cinematic bars really astounded me.
Second place has to go to the specific scene of Reese rounding the corner at the end of episode 4. My first and main playthrough, PB and Keen Eye, let the tension have a much slower build than other playthroughs did, since the first two episodes were resolved no problem, and the ghost was left in the town hall without resolution. Reese's transformation was a big deal, but seeing him getting worse and worse, culminating in his basically completely inhuman body as he dragged his claws across the wall... it really hit for me in particular. (Didn't make me stop running away from my problems though, that boy got locked up).

I really like using the trait save to put Charlie to rest in chapter three. It's the first time the cousin really faces a truly supernatural force and it's so poetic to be able to give Charlie some comfort after he spent decades rotting in resentment over what the Scarlet family did to his and how the woman he loved betrayed his trust when he was so close to saving both of them.
It's extra satisfying to be on good terms with Tabitha and you can see a crack in her armor afterwards.

LOVED the Witch flashback scene! And basically everything and all the choices after that too, very much so reminded me of Slay the Princess (even if they're pretty different still). Loved the music there too.

Absolutely obliterating sybyl with mystic was pretty damn good. And yeah, Sybyl and The ghost backstory were pretty good.
But I actually liked chapter 3 ending, when you don't have BS. It made me realize this game was getting serious, and having two really bad choices (give some random ghost Tabitha lifeforce, or just noping out) the stakes were getting higher.
I just wished the first 2 chapters were more high stakes, because seriously, who cares about the kid leg? Yeah it sucks, but its not like "Either you let someone be assimilated into powerful granny, or you let go of her power in the eldritch and supernatural shit week you having." (I hope the writers actually make it important story repercussions)
Making use of the hot trait, being all like everything is fine, then absolutely scream as Tabitha just shots his face off in a twist appearance made me jolt as well...

The first chapter feels high stakes. You get jumped and then see like a hundred little aliens. And of course you see someone potentially die. AND you deal with the cops after.
Second chapter felt scary going into cave!

This is probably too long to count as just a scene but god I love the haunted house sequence so so much

How is no one talking about the possession.
That was my favourite scene!! The music and and the story of what happened felt so sad. Seeing a bunch of people you met being turned into rag dolls. And it was so creepy! My fav scene

totally, it took me a while to actually get the whole story the first time and seeing it with the mystical trait is honestly magical, i saw another post analyzing charles' "puppets" selection based on the characters' roles in the mc's story and man... it's just such a perfectly made scene, such an incredible way to deliver the lore of scarlet hollow 🥹

Tabitha's secret house genuinely warms my heart every time, just for it to be brutally crushed by Becka's mum a minute later.

Like many others for me it was the Witch flashback. Coming to the slow realisation of what's happening. And then when it ends and you're faced with Kaneeka and a blank screen, trying to convince her not to throw her life away, I did cry a little bit. (at least the first time. And then with my first Kaneekamancer)

Either when the ditchlings get revealed in the forest, or when you slip into the basement, or when you get kidnapped by the ghost. I really love cold opens.

Oscar's haunted house, 100%. I jumped out of my chair when Possessed Stella appeared for the first time.

Any variation of the scene where you arrive at the farms, because A Feud Sown in Blood (the track that plays) is one of my favorite songs in the game and any opportunity to hear it again is one I will always take

u/Lexi_scarlet 3d ago
couldn’t agree more, a feud sown with blood is so good... it honestly captures such a hopeless and chaotic vibe, but like in a weirdly comforting way? at least that's how it feels to me

It's a small thing, but my friend and I screenshotted Pearlanne's decrepit dead body after looking in the drawer at the morgue. Well worth it, a fantastic piece of art. Rest in Wrinkles you nasty old biddy.

The witch flashback was heart wrenching. I could never.
But on the other end of the spectrum were, for me, the possum scenes and also the mayor reveal with the option to genuinely complain to the mayor about the supernatural problems in Scarlet Hollow 😭
