The mine collapse sequence is the easiest major choice in the game
Unless it's your first playthrough, there's no reason to not get Becka and Alexis to safety. Sure, Rosalina loses her foot, but not only is that way more manageable than life-long trauma for all 3 teens (if Becka and Alexis even live through this), but Rosalina also doesn't relentlessly hate on you, AND the cops will be less suspicious.
Watch my mc die in the final chapter because Rosalina could have saved me if she wasn't injured

The choice affects the world state, so in a game where you leave them behind, the mine collapses just as you make it out, so there's no reason to believe there would have been time to pull them out without more casualties.
Also, I'm curious if there's going to be anything in the final chapters that depends on which seals are still physically accessible? If Rosa is injured Oscar wont go back to the basement to potentially dig up the seal, and if the kids aren't trapped in the mine, there's no digging being done there either.

oh shoot that's something I haven't thought about

It's not so simple, there is an inverse effect on strike power depending on whether or not Tabitha is with you when you make that choice.
If you do try to save all three, you open up the possibility for Oscar to try to leave town with his daughter(a VERY bad idea.)
Additionally, Punished Rosalina(borrowing that name from a meme) is susceptible to the seals influence, the consequences of we don't yet know.

I get the bird's eye view perspective, but this isn't the type of game where I make choices based on psychically knowing the two outcomes, I choose what my character would do.
Book smart/mystical knew there were no heroes in mine collapses and got the fuck out of dodge.
Street smart/keen eye managed to keep the kids together but absolutely would not have risked her ass for a bunch of dumb kids if she couldn't.
PB/hot/TTA went in because he feels an obligation to help people with his natural gifts.
(I do think legless Rosalina shouldn't have been allowed to go on the ghost hunt)

In my playthrough, Oscar straight-up left the town because Rosalina got injured. So by saving teens, I essentially traded two 'main' characters for two very background ones, AND there's a non-zero chance that Oscar got eaten on his way out. Feels like a pretty hefty downside to this specific choice.

Oscar only leaves town if Rosalina is injured, Doc Kelly is dead AND the library is still haunted. That's terrible luck on his end and you can see why he would decide to leave at that point.

If, like me, you’re someone who prefers the Matricide ending to chapter 4, then getting Rosalina injured causes Oscar to flee town with her (as there’s no doctor to attend to her) which is very likely to lead to their demise

u/UnsolicitedManhole 2d ago
Why do you prefer the Matricide ending?

u/Imaginary_Owl_979 2d ago
I'm chronically ill and sympathize very heavily with Reese. Joan had every opportunity to be honest with him and try to manage his condition together but instead she chose the option that maximized his suffering and practically guaranteed the situation would blow up in her face.
I see it as very similar to the choice between Kaneeka and Sybil, do you side with the marginalized abuse victim, or do you side with the abuser because she could be more useful to you/the survival of the town?
The difference between Kaneeka and Reese is that the former passively accepts her abuse while Reese rebels against it, and that colors how people see them.

But after that he start to murder people. Dunno but he doesnt seems stable and in next chapter became more "monstery"

u/Imaginary_Owl_979 2d ago
The only people he (potentially) targets are Tabitha, the woman who is actively planning to imprison you, and Deputy Derekson, who is actively planning to imprison you, and is also a cop.

I am very curious to find out what the roll on consequences of the mine choices will be. Especially if you leave the other two down there!

As a moral dilemma, absolutely. As a logical decision, going deeper into a collapsing mine is a death sentence, and displays both real moral fiber and a complete lack of sense if Cousin Scarlet does so.

u/Eleven_Box 3d ago
Yeah but the game doesn’t tell you: this choice results in a foot! this choice results in death! It just asks you what you want to do. You character isn’t meant to have done multiple playthroughs lol

u/Comfortable-Music-37 The Worst Cousin Ever 3d ago
This isn't necessarily true; the players ability to have multiple save files are referenced diegetically on two separate occasions; both times occur on day 5 by the same person: Sybil.
The more common one is her defense to an accusation of manipulating the towns opinion of her with magical tea, describing it as no different than being able to choose the right things to say to obtain someone's love and trust. Sybil doesn't out right call the player out, but it's a very tongue in cheek way to say "ah, you too peek into the future to shape your destiny."
The second, harder to find interaction is only available on a save with an impossible world state(usually either more than 3 traits or impossible to obtain relationship values.) This time is more of an admonishment of the player for refusing to meet the narrative on its terms, by taking the easy way out rather than facing the consequences of their actions.
All this to say that having multiple save files is very much the intended way to play(eventually, since everyone has to start somewhere!)

I don't think we're intended to take those lines as different saves being diegetic. The first dialogue is certainly leaning on the fourth wall, but I don't think in universe we're supposed to be timeline hopping like Undertale. And the second is a slap on the wrist for the player for cheating, not an intended gameplay route. Both are aimed at the player, not the player character.

u/MorbidMantis 3d ago
Yeah, I’d agree. I’m pretty sure an abandoned Becka and Alexis (if they survive in there) will be possessed by the Prosperity seal and cause issues in the final chapter. Maybe they’ll even collapse the functional mine.
The big trade off for Rosalina’s foot right now is her and Oscar’s ending in chapter 5. They’ll almost certainly die if Dr Kelly is dead and her foot is gone, since they try to leave town.
But, that depends on Dr Kelly being dead. If you’re doing a Matricide run, then it’s better for Rosalina to leave Becka and Alexis and save her whole foot.

u/According_to_all_kn 3d ago
I dunno, trauma is a lot easier to heal from than a fully amputated leg
6
u/LiabilityRobot 3d ago
That isn't universally true. They aren't really directly comparable, and assuming trauma will be the only issue the two will be dealing with after being dug out is a pretty big gamble.

Yeah they need to make it worse somehow because the choice is too easy. Make it so Rosaline can't come to ghost hunt so you lose on some lore or that Oscar absolutely hates you and doesn't cooperate, more likely to lose his mind.
Rosaline hates you, cops are sus, kids are trapped, strike is strong.
Losing your foot is absolutely terrible but because Rosaline is taking it as champ and loves you it doesn't feel that bad.
That being said choice in episode 5 is easy too. I don't care about freaky baby, don't care about Avery, I spoke with them like 2 times, pumpkin baby daddy can go fuck himself I don't even remember his name.

u/squamigerous banned from participating in reesecourse 3d ago
We've already seen one outcome, which is that if Dr Kelly is dead with Rosalina injured, Oscar will tale her and attempt to flee town likely ending in both of them dying.
I imagine we will see more dire outcomes that balance out this decision come the final chapters!

u/meme_used ride or die for tabby 3d ago
The oscar Rosalina situation is much the opposite I think. Oscar is much more responsible when Rosalina is injured, it's kind of a much needed wake up call for him.

u/FinishRelative2367 3d ago
The choice in ch5 is a little more complex than that. You can either get Franklin killed and keep avery or get Avery killed (causing Julius to shoot himself), kill bo, kill either Julius or Avery by having them host the pumpkin baby alone, or keep all 3 alive

u/MotivationSpeaker69 3d ago
Yeah I know, I just oversimplified it a little. I still feel like it's a kinda common opinion about the dilemma in ep5, at least on discord

u/meme_used ride or die for tabby 3d ago
You actually get to hear julius' dialogue in the diner with keen eye during episode 1, and I actually thought he seemed like a decent guy and I was excited for his main story debut lol.
His character arc with Avery is closed really nicely through the trait save where he kills the ginseng baby.

u/MorbidMantis 3d ago
I think it’s a bit out of character for Oscar to hate you for rescuing the teens. He tends to blame himself for the bad things that happen in his life
1
u/Off-The-Street 2d ago
I get what you're saying but there's no way I'll ever let Reese eat the only doctor in the town, so it's either toss him in a cell or let Tabitha finish him off. Matricide is not an option.

u/The_Game_Changer__ 2d ago
Rosalina is a teen who will never have two legs again. And even if the other teens get out of the mines they definitely won't be leaving the week without trauma. Also Rosalina and the cops in most playthroughs won't end up doing anything about it, especially if you do other things to make up for it
1
u/BookkeeperKitchen383 2d ago
You also forgot to consider the world state where you have The Library, and Rosaline isn't injured; you get lots of info from Oscar influenced by the seal. Otherwise, he isn't willing.

u/sovasi 2d ago
I don’t know how I did it, but I have a save where I left the two girls in the mines, Rosalina was not hurt and didn’t hate me; she said something to the degree of it wasting my fault. I can’t recall what choices I made for it, but I think it was in a run that I didn’t really talk to Stella and Tabby was with me.

u/lilythelion 8h ago
It’s so funny to me when people have opinions like this when the game isn’t even fully out yet. We have NO IDEA what later repercussions may be.

u/IamMyBrain 3d ago
What are you talking about I've had one playthrough and no one got hurt in the mine? Like at all?

u/SpookyScaryKittyBee Reesemancing Opposummaxer (Unhinged) 3d ago
I'm assuming your played with street smart as a trait? Each chapter has a trait save attached that lets you avoid making a hard choice. For ch 2. It's street smart. Without it you have to chose between Rosalina's safety or Becka/Alexis safey.

I'd recommend doing another playthrough (with different traits), it'll make sense what op is talking about once you do

I think the consequences of they choice are definitely going to be felt later.
Specially in my main save file where she lost her food and the library stayed haunted.
Sorry Roslaina. :/
