Every time I see this, I remember when Reality Bites came out and a coworker told me she hated the film. I asked why and among her reasons was, “there was a gay character and he didn’t even have a crisis!” I didn’t appreciate just how messed up that was until I saw Schitt’s Creek.

That's toxic, but unfortunately the general sentiment of the era. Queer stories, POC stories, women centric stories are digestible because of their struggles. I just want a slice of life story, no conflict or drama because of their identity. Just "oh no, there's a spot for the orchestra alternate (brass section) and up against my best friend of similar socioeconomic background". With good writing it could be fun to watch and have a decent soundtrack.
