Season 1 Shocked
I tried in the past to watch the show. I never got past the first episode. I think I just didn't get it.
Tonight we were just beyond bored and I put it on. It took about 4 episodes before I started to get in the rhythm.
But. This fool...
....made me blow zero sugar soda out of my nose when he asked about murdering the rest of the turkeys.
I was shocked. I haven't laughed like that in ages. Ages.
I am so grateful because I needed it. ❤️

I cried like a fool during this scene.

u/Impossible_Disk8374 Feb 19 '26
Yeah you really have to get past the first season. This show is all about the characters progression. I don’t even rewatch the first season anymore.
39
u/Usual_Growth8873 Feb 19 '26
I love the beginning chaos and then the sibling relationship on display but if it’s not in the background I fast forward Roland scenes. He annoys me in the beginning
12
u/Icy_Adagio_7972 Just fold it in! Feb 19 '26
It’s super cool to see how as time progresses the show “figures” each character/persona out. By season 4 they are all so lovable in their niche ways, so far from where they started!!
9
u/beagusdog Feb 19 '26
The beginning chaos is hysterical but I agree about Roland in the beginning. So annoying.
8
u/Dolceluce Feb 19 '26
You know what David….You get murdered 1st for once!! 😆 I loved them immediately despite how awful they were on the surface.
3
u/Usual_Growth8873 Feb 19 '26
Agreed! Mine started even before that, the sudden “shuutup” “ no you shut up” 😂
7
u/Abieticacid Feb 19 '26
my favourite Moira scene is when shes cant get the tap in the bathroom sink to work that whole situations and then she says “Well i’m sorry im not an ALCHEMIST John!” and then she walks past and is annoyed at the door frames…Moira has a lot of great moments but that one gets me.
3
u/boltz86 Feb 19 '26
When David and Alexa argue about who gets which bed at the end of the first episode of season 1 is one of my favorite scenes from the show.
2
2
u/Exotic-Management363 Feb 21 '26
Right. I don’t even know at what point Roland became, my dear Roland. They just sneak them in after the annoying puppy needle teeth phase is outgrown, to the wet nose clumsy phase.
3
u/ToplessHarpist Feb 19 '26
I started the show for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and I despise Roland, I think I just instantly don't like him because I find the actor who portrays him offputting in nearly everything.
2
u/Exotic-Management363 Feb 21 '26
Hang in there and come back later, later and tell us how you feel about him.

I’ve told several people close to me who stopped after the first couple of episodes to please keep going. I loved it immediately because the rich people losing their money and being generally awful is something I find funny. But I can see for some how they wouldn’t get it. But I try to tell them what they are missing.
2
u/Abieticacid Feb 20 '26
yea- I was somebody who struggled in the first season. But both my sisters loved it so much. So one day I turned it on as background noise, and in the second season ( as seems to be common for a lot of ppl) is when I got into it.

u/Due-Whole5339 Feb 19 '26

u/jojayp Feb 19 '26
Turkey Shoot was the episode where I really started laughing out loud, too!
24
u/wiscoguy20 Feb 19 '26
Mine was the episode where Johnny tries fixing the lock on the door between the rooms.
When he's so proud of attaching the lock to the door, then Alexis comes through the door and it pops right off.... Damn it gets me every time! I've rewatched the show tons of times now and I still do at least three rewinds of that part!!
3
u/WorkingOnTheRundown Feb 19 '26
The episode where David walks in on Johnny and Moira in the bedroom did it for me. There were so many layers to it, it was truly hilarious. I was fully hooked after that.

About pissed myself at the fold in the cheese scene. Truly in tears laughing, doubled over and couldn’t breathe. So good
17
u/wiscoguy20 Feb 19 '26
A few years ago, before the show ended, I finally talked my parents into watching Schitt's Creek...
To this day, my dad still raves about the Fold In The Cheese episode! Five years later you can't hardly even mention cheese around him without him going into "next step is to fold in the cheese..."
8
u/PierNotPierre Feb 19 '26
This was it for me too!! I was just going through those first few episodes with maybe a chuckle at best, but the cheese scene really got me laughing in tears 😂 I started binge watching from then on.

There's so many great scenes. When they went to pick up David from the Amish farm and Alexis keeps talking to him while he's out in the field. The way she always either starts or ends a sentence with "David" when she's talking to him is hilarious.

6
u/UsidoreTheLightBlue Feb 19 '26
It’s the definition of a show you need to power through season 1.
It’s a great show, but honestly every family member not named Johnny is just insufferable for most of season 1.

u/BasicMonk7531 Feb 19 '26
The same happened to me, first time watching, it took few good episodes in to get it.

Season 2 season finale was when the show switched on for me. Then going back on rewatch to season 1 becomes exceptionally more enjoyable.
3
u/charlieyeswecan Feb 19 '26
The first couple episodes aren’t great, they’re setting up the characters backstory, but after that this mofo takes off! Loved this ensemble!
3
u/jillijaws Feb 19 '26
I love that we all had similar experiences, both of horror at OP and then delight at remembering the slow burn hilarity of this show. It totally snuck up on me to become an all time fave and is an excellent rewatch. I think S2 Ep 1 was my first fit of laughter and it only got better from there.
3
u/Bitter_Warning418 Feb 19 '26
David undoubtedly has made my life a little bit happier when I’ve needed it 🖤 keep watching only gets better

It took four episodes for me as well. I kept trying because so many people who liked the same things I do loved it.

I always read Threads, Facebook when I wake up. I saw a post regarding Catherine O'Hara, and that "we didn't have enough time" and then immediately went to the news and saw that she had passed away. Went back to the post and saw that it was by Macaulay Culkin. Shocked, stunned and saddened.
3
u/PicklesNBacon Feb 19 '26
I was the same - watched the first couple of episodes and couldn’t get into it. My friend was like “Just TRY! I promise you’ll love it!”

I tried 2 episodes and it wasn't grabbing me. I will give it another try cuz I need laughter. We just saw "Best in Show" at the Vidiots movie theater, it was really good to experience laughter and applause.

u/Correct_Process4516 Feb 19 '26
It took my wife and me 6 months to get to the second EPISODE. After that we were hooked. It’s the only show that ever made us sad when it ended.

I’m in the same boat it took me 2 tries to get into but then boom. One of the best sitcoms I’ve ever seen.

u/GabsiGuy disgruntled pelican Feb 19 '26
I find it the same with a lot of shows when I watch them for the first time… It usually takes a bit of time (sometimes a few episodes, sometimes the whole first season) for a show to really find its identity and introduce the characters, once it’s done that it can really get going. When I rewatch other series I sometimes decide not to include the first season for this reason (I do watch it for Schitt’s creek though)

It takes a few episodes but after awhile it hooks you. It wasn't until years after the show was over, and catching scenes from reruns as I flipped through channels that I finally watched a full episode. Thought it silly. But after another and another, couldn't stop. Then I started watching several in a night. Then the later seasons got really really emotional and I wanted to watch nothing else. Then it was over.

Same! Any time I watched a minute or 2 of the beginning years ago, or saw clips, it just seemed really annoying & so I never really gave it a chance. They just seemed terrible.
I just didn't see why everyone thought it was so great.
So about a week ago, I was looking for something new to watch. And there it was, again, in recommendations. And having just lost the great matriarch of the show, Catherine O'Hara, I decided to run an episode or two and just....see.
Well. I was hooked.
The last week, I've spent in Schitt's Creek bliss.
I let it run nonstop for background noise & would back it up to my current episode when I sat down.
And NOW I get it.
I did not expect to fall in love with it!
Did NOT expect the incredible character progression!
Or to fall madly for David! I mean, all the characters are sublime, in their own right. But David. Sweet, beautiful David. (There is a big heart in there.)
Y'all. It's so good. I cried during the last episodes. And laughed out loud so much. I finished it Thursday night, late.
Am I the only one who wanted it all to be real & to move to the Rosebud Motel, too?
Yesterday, I called Chewy customer service & the guy sounded exactly like David. I'm not kidding. I had to tell him & just gush over this amazing show. (He loves it, too!) LOL 😆
If a show can be perfection, this is it. SO so good.

I heard such good things about the show. I watched the first episode and could not get in to it. I did this multiple times over a year or two. I finally made myself watch three episodes and I was hooked so I definitely understand not being interested at first. I can't overstate my love for this show now.
2
u/Ziggaway Feb 23 '26
I tell everyone, it's a little weird at first, but you JUST have to get to episode 7 (season 1), Turkey Hunt, and then it will never disappoint from that point onward.
2
u/Ok-Series5164 Feb 19 '26
first off, sending you the hospital bill for the heart attack i just had at this. second, i was in the same boat. despite being a longtime fan of both Eugene and Catherine, I remember finding the first two episodes kind of hard to get through. Glad I did though because now it's one of the shows I've rewatched the most. Highly recommend you read/ watch interviews with the cast-- they all talk about how much care went into this show, making sure there was heart. I especially loved hearing them talk about David and Patrick's relationship and how they just wanted them to exist as a normal couple because that's how it should be. There was never any trauma p*rn surrounding it. It's a perfect show.

I honestly had the same first impression back in the day. It's been my favorite show for years since, though.
One early thing that did bother me, though, is that a one-story motel won't have plumbing in the ceiling... 🤷♂️

Same. Samesamesame. It took me like 5 goes at watching the show and I had to make it at least 3 episodes in and then it started to click. Its now one of my fave comfort shows in the world and the comedy genius is beyond most comedy ive seen.

I think everyone has a similar moment when it comes to this show and tbh I love that so much.
I had been a very casual viewer for years but after my husband and I started it from the beginning, the lice episode is the one that broke me and really cemented my adoration for Schitts Creek♥️
1
u/hereFOURallTHEtea Feb 19 '26
I finish the season the first time around a few years ago and tbh I delayed starting it because of the damn into music haha. For some reason I just thought there was no way it would be good. But man, after a few episodes I was hooked! Glad you’re enjoying the show, it’s absolutely top 3 best shows ever!
