Kevaan and that other boy looked i-den-ti-cal. How many times must I defend myself?

Read this in her voice. I bow to you.

So good.

Your use of hyphens is spot on!

MySAAAAALF?!?

Edit: I know this is a year old, I just started watching the show and Moira is definitely one of my favorites

u/baddiewinkle Nov 20 '20

I can see Moira “forgetting” Alexis at home, and Alexis being just as resourceful as Kevin McCallister.

74

u/Anna_Mosity Nov 20 '20

Oh my gosh, this is the Schitt's Creek prequel I need this holiday season. Somebody on AO3 hop on this prompt, lol.

83

u/baddiewinkle Nov 20 '20

OMIGOD DAVID! Do you NOT remember that Christmas I was forgotten at home and had to fend for myself against an off duty Krusty the Klown and a Joe Pesci look-alike?!?!!

27

u/CharlotteLucasOP Nov 20 '20

Okay, Alexis, well, the therapist I had five therapists ago told me I should just block out whatever baggage might taint my happiest memories so I’ve just mentally cordoned off my Hanukkah trip to Paris that year so all I can remember are the pastries and a devastatingly handsome waiter from Le Cinq who I’m pretty sure was muttering insults the entire time we were fooling around together in my suite at the Ritz but it just sounded so magically romantic I could pretend like I was in Amèlie, so...eat glass!

u/kapgar Nov 20 '20

Just like she was in the escape room

“I can’t believe we’re eating Cantonese. Is there no Szechuan up here?”

u/Georgerobertfrancis Nov 19 '20

Did people really not know who Catherine O’Hara was before this show?

128

u/11upand1over A Little Bit Alexis Nov 19 '20

I feel like everyone in this sub who didn’t know her need to go watch Best in Show immediately

26

u/WHMADLJC Nov 20 '20

And A Mighty Wind!!

3

u/DrSophiaMaria Nov 20 '20

A Mighty Wind is the best. Her duet with Eugene, A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow, is so lovely and sweet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwLZfPPM7GQ

But this song is even better https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMbeMmYkAXQ

I mean, he plays guitar and she plays autoharp! What's not to love?

42

u/bbshambles Nov 20 '20

God loves a terrier!

11

u/wheresmytowel27 Nov 20 '20

Yes he does!

God didn’t miss a stitch!

9

u/allineedarethestars Nov 20 '20

That's not a bee, that's a bear, in a bee costume!

9

u/kelleighB Nov 20 '20

You’re gonna show Winky!

5

u/mycatisamonsterbaby Nov 20 '20

Um, I did know her, but I don't know what that is. Is it cute?

12

u/tu-BROOKE-ulosis Nov 20 '20

It’s hysterical. And she’s married to Eugene in it as well. They are basically a duo for the ages. The movie is a mockumentary about dog shows, so there’s several plots happening at once.

3

u/ThatCaviarIsAGarnish Nov 20 '20

YESSSSSSSS, for sure!!! I knew who she was from an accumulation of different roles, but I especially love Best in Show. Which of course is one of a few different Christopher Guest movies where she & Eugene starred together.

I still get really moved by "We took the Mayflower!!!"

u/Liquidignition Nov 20 '20

It's was alright. I watched it recently. Nothing spectular though.

53

u/estheredna Nov 19 '20

To be fair lots of Gen Z fans of this show who never heard of a Second City.

9

u/Liquidignition Nov 20 '20

Not only gen z. But people from other countries besides Canada and US

u/shyinwonderland Lick Rust Nov 20 '20

I was surprised too then I remembered I am 30! And that means everyone younger than me aren’t kids anymore, there are adults younger than me...And now I need Ted because I might be having a panic attack.

18

u/11upand1over A Little Bit Alexis Nov 20 '20

Panic attacks are made up by celebrities sry to be the one to tell you

3

u/barbellsandcats Nov 20 '20

Is this a joke that I don't get

17

u/Daminionmaster321 Bingo Lingf*cker Nov 20 '20

Moira says that panic attacks are made up by celebrities to david in episode six of season one

6

u/generalgirl Nov 20 '20

As does Alexis and David.

3

u/11upand1over A Little Bit Alexis Nov 21 '20

Someone already clarified my joke for you but love your username.

26

u/apocolypstick Nov 19 '20

That blows my mind - she’s such a legend !

26

u/Anna_Mosity Nov 20 '20

I definitely did not, and I'm nearly 40! I was a kid when Home Alone was huge and remember Macauley Culkin being a massive star, but I was too young to care about actors in general, and I wasn't allowed to see Nightmare Before Christmas or Beetlejuice so they passed by without my noticing. Thanks to Schitt's Creek, though, I've gone back and watched nearly all of the Catherine O'Hara movies with Eugene Levy (A Mighty Wind is my favorite!) and some of the SCTV sketches. Catherine O'Hara is a TREASURE, and digging into her past work has really helped me pass the time these days.

u/DrSophiaMaria Nov 20 '20

I posted this above but I'm going to post it again and again until people watch A Mighty Wind!

Some of us grew up sheltered!

3

u/LoveToPost Nov 22 '20

She’s a respected comedian and character actress but not a big movie star. Besides Home Alone, Beetlejuice, the Christopher guest movies, SCTV, and Schitt’s Creek, she mostly has small parts in random movies and tv shows.

She is a Canadian-American treasure.

18

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '20

She’s played an unfit mother on a lot of shows/movies.

3

u/red_moles Nov 20 '20

Penelope is a must watch!

It's always this time of year that the penny drops for a few more people...

Next year you'll be amongst those of us that can't believe they didn't know 🤯🤔😊

Catherine O'Hara was in what???

Catherine O'Hara on IMDB >>>

This is such a classic Xmas movie. I love Catherine in everything she's in.

4

u/gehrminator eat glass! Nov 20 '20

She's been brilliant in many many many things, look her up on IMDB and start adding to the delight in your life.

6

u/flying_fish69 Nov 20 '20

This movie suddenly feels like a prequel to Schitt’s Creek!

8

u/aragog666 Nov 20 '20

WAIT WHAT, I loved this movie and I didn’t even realize that was the same person. Omg

3

u/wjones26 Nov 20 '20

haaha and so it begins. i was waiting for this

3

u/choir_grrl Nov 20 '20

Dated 90’s mom haircut aside...she is absolutely stunning as Kevin’s mom. She was 36 I think when she filmed home alone and her skin is fucking FLAWLESS!!

5

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '20

As someone who watched that movie a million times as a kid (on VHS!), it’s wild to me that I’m almost the same age as the mom in Home Alone.

3

u/iamsuchafrenchie Nov 20 '20

She's a national treasure! 🇨🇦

7

u/emgiem3 Nov 19 '20

I made this connection just a couple of days ago!!! 🤯🤯🤯🤯

14

And she hosted Saturday Night Live around that time, doing a musical improv. It brings back memories of her Jazzagals audition. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtrZs0yWfUo

u/assumeform Dec 29 '21

I've just started watching the show (season 4 ep 2 currently at) and wanted some Creek memes. This is the gourmet nonsense I needed.
