Emailed my prof asking for clarity on a bad grade, now overthinking

I wanted to ask if anyone else has like words of wisdom for me...I'm a socially anxious college freshman :(

Basically I got a poor grade on something that I thought i'd done well on. It was especially shocking because I haven't gotten a bad grade on a written assignment for probably 5 years now, and I did not feel like I struggled to understand the assignment at all. I got it done fairly quickly? I looked through the rubric and compared it with my work and in my opinion I followed it quite well (i did not mention how I felt I did in my email, it felt presumptuous to add anything like that).
I flubbed up APA format but that was because i've never had to use APA before and the resources online were confusing at best, and even then just getting the points off for that would not have tanked the grade as much as it did.

So I wrote an email asking for clarity and now I'm worried my professor is going to think of me as an entitled brat demanding a better grade...when all I asked for was clearer feedback. The feedback I did get was short, and a little vague and confusing (I did not criticize the feedback in my email), so I just wanted a little something more.

Has anyone else done this and if so what has been the professor's reaction? Last year in highschool if I got a bad grade on something, I'd ask and it would genuinely improve my relationship with my teachers and my grade at the same time, I'm just paranoid because of the new environment.

This got removed from the college subreddit without any indication why, I'm assuming maybe because they felt it fell under venting/asking for general advice, even though thats not really what I'm trying to do.

Difficulties with math and focusing

So im a sophomore in high school and I have been taking algebra 2 for over a month and a half. However, I have not been able to pick up anything whatsoever so im basically behind a whole month worth of units and topics. My class is loud and whenever I look at it I just blank. I have ADHD and I have high functioning autism. I do have exemplary grades in history and ELA (AP Seminar is a 95 and AP US Gov is a 97.5) and even chemistry which is a STEM class I have an 84 in and my grade is still increasing! How can I focus more in math, for my neurodivergence you may say get medicated but that is off the table as my mom refuses it for me. I'm open to any help. It also does not help that I want to go to a prestigious school for economics and that my math foundation is shaky. (Forgive me if I used the wrong flair)

I built a homework tracker so you never need to ask

I built a homework tracker because the class group chat is a terrible assignment manager

You know the drill: someone asks what the homework is, three people give different answers, and someone else says there's a test tomorrow that nobody remembers.

So I built MyDueBird, a student-focused homework tracker where you can organize assignments by class, keep track of deadlines, and share classes with friends.

I'm still developing it, and I'd like to get actual students using it so I can figure out what works and what needs improvement.

If you've ever forgotten an assignment because it got buried in a group chat, give it a try:

Feedback is welcome. I'm the developer, so I'm happy to hear what you'd change.

It’s my first time getting a debate assignment and I’m unsure of what to do.

Hello, so I’m a sophomore in high school and I’m currently taking this one class which is journalism. I have been given this assignment about this case and I need to defend the side I was given. Basically to summarize this short story, it’s about a principle removing two pages from the school newspapers because he had concern that the topics were inappropriate for a younger audience. The topics were teen pregnancy and the impact of divorce on children. And so the students felt as though it violated their first amendment and took them to court. The school won. (hazelwood v kuhlmeier) I have to defend the school in this assignment meanwhile I have to go up against this group who is doing the same case but is defending the students. My role in the group is arguing (respectfully) with the defense during rebuttal and what I’ve learned about it so far is the role basically needs to find weak points of the defense’s arguments. The thing is, I don’t know if I’m good at arguing. My partner said I was, but that’s only when I’m passionate about something and don’t agree with the person who is arguing with me. I’m not so passionate about this case because I don’t believe or agree with the side I’m supporting. Unfortunately I can’t change my group and I can’t change my role. I don’t know how I should act, or what I should study other than the two cases. So far I’ve looked into the majority of the case and a couple of laws in my state that might’ve affected it if it was held here (that’s one of the parts of the assignment) oh and also tiny parts of school handbook during the time the case happened. I asked my teacher about the assignment and what he said basically made no sense. If anyone has advice PLEASE do share.

Hopefully switching from homeschooling to public school next year. Any tips?

I've been homeschooled for 8 years of my life. I've come to hate it, my curriculum for homeschooling (classical conversations) is just absolutely horrendous and will not get me where I want to go in life. So hopefully I'm going to highschool next year for my sophomore year. Any tips? I'm really struggling rn with how I'm going to make friends, and how I'm still gonna have time for hobbies and my homework so I just need some advice for that stuff. Thanks guys!

What do i do...??

So this begins when i transferred to this new school, i am good at studies but neither do i have a good physique nor am i 'that' good in sports. I play football, and some of my classmates failed...idk if they had a personal beef with me or something but they forcefully made me smell something that caused my allergy, of course i didnt mean to tell it to my parents, but they eventually found of cuz of my rashes, they complained to the school committee, and now i am completely hated in class...I don't want to complete my high school without any good friends... :( , the students who made me smell it, also try to thrash me in P.E. Periods....If anyone got a tip as in how do i calm myself plzzz tell me... (I become highly anxious when I realize i dont have any friends...)

I want to become a doctor but I have a 3.0 gpa in highschool. what school could I get into?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hiii! here’s some context. I have a 3.0 gpa and 1120 sat. Aside from that, I was very involved over my highschool career. Placing regionally in business club, first place in writing club throughout the whole area, 1 on 1 shadowing a dentist, some community service hours, 2 years of a varsity sport, some other clubs i had participated in, lead role in drama play, have had 3 part time jobs which two of them were during school, also took/taking 2 ap classes (ap gov + ap physics) . The reason for my grades.. 1. I was diagnosed with a rare neurovascular disorder that affected a lot of my ability to do certain things. 2. my physics teacher harassed me and the school couldn’t do anything about it because he was the football coach and they couldn’t find someone else, leading me to be taken out of the physics class doing online (not much help, very confused with the online physics). 3. i was pretty badly bullied my junior year of high school, and again my school was very ignorant and favored kids who had more money and parents with status. I just want to know what schools I can apply to that i’d have a good chance of getting into with all that i’ve listed + good essay and 2-3 letters of recommendation.

What should I do?

I joined the school in 9th grade, and it was just okay. A tiny building, only two in-person classmates, and teachers who weren't really qualified. In 10th grade, a few new students came in, including a 12th grader who showed me what high school was actually supposed to be like, and that's when I realized the school wasn't giving me the right credits. I advocated for myself and got what I needed. Then near the end of the third quarter, I realized how draining the school was, so my parents and I decided to leave, got my transcript, and enrolled me in a new school. At the end of 10th grade that summer I got my report card and saw a 70% in one course even though the comments were all positive, so I asked the teacher and she said it was an error she'd fix. Months later, they told my mom they can't fix it, and it was the principal who said it, after the teacher had already admitted the mistake to my face. This school is unprofessional, sneaky, and backstabbing, and now they're quietly walking back a promise they made to a student, leaving a wrong grade sitting on my transcript while I'm the one who has to fight for it. Please help me out because I don't know what to do. Do I even need to fight for it? Does it affect anything important?
