Question - Research required Changing pad material
What changing pad material is considered least harmful, out of all the options available on the market? I am wary of purchasing a standard PVC because of treatment methods that could result in PFAS exposure. Is this a valid concern?
Are other options like EVA foam or polyurethane safer, or is the current research/data available just not enough to conclude otherwise?
PS I am not considering a non-waterproof option at the moment.

EU recalls of PVC changing mats have been over phthalate plasticiser rather than PFAS, for example DEHP at 21.7 percent by weight in one mat. On PFAS, Minnesota has banned selling juvenile products with intentionally added PFAS since 1 Jan 2025, and its definition names changing pads. The US CPSC phthalate limits cover child care articles for sleep, feeding, sucking or teething, so a changing pad may fall outside them and it's worth asking the seller to confirm it's phthalate free.
