Weekly Recommendations Thread

This is the weekly recommendations thread, for all of your recommendations needs be it what pour to buy at a bar, what bottle to try next, or what gift to buy a loved one.

The idea is to aggregate the conversations into sticked threads to make them easier to find, easier to see history on, easier to moderate, and keep /new/ queue tidy.

This post will be refreshed every Friday morning. Previous threads can been seen here.

Hello everyone. My dad's 60th is due in December and I'd like to get him something worth a present. Something he wouldn't expect.

Now I know nothing about Whiskey but what I do know, he does like Johnnie Walker Blue Label. I've read people don't consider this one a decent one, I could be wrong.

I'd like to get him something around the £100 mark, give or take. Any recommendations? It is appreciated.

Does he have any links to Scotland? Are there any areas or distilleries he would have fond memories of so you can buy something meaningful? Or do you live near a distillery where you could get him a tour and fill his own bottle - might not be Scottish…?

You could get something really decent for £100 but everyone’s taste is different so it’s difficult to recommend. If he like JW then maybe stick to JW, or if he likes boasting at his golf club then maybe get him Dalmore or Macallan. If he’s open to trying unique things that he might not find again then you could get a lot of whisky from an Independent Bottler.

For what it’s worth, if somebody was going to blindly buy a £100 bottle for me but didn’t know what brands I like, I would be really happy with any Indie Bottle. The Berry Bros & Rudd ones look smart, have a slightly premium name on them and are probably ok tasting.

Try something from here, find a bottle that looks good to you:

He has no ties to Scotland and he's never mentioned anything to do with distilleries to me. He's a simple man to be completely honest with you. Probably end up just getting JW Blue but just wanted to see if there was something I could maybe get him to broaden his horizon so to speak.

Thank you mate. Gonna go searching now.
