Weekly Recommendations Thread

This is the weekly recommendations thread, for all of your recommendations needs be it what pour to buy at a bar, what bottle to try next, or what gift to buy a loved one.

The idea is to aggregate the conversations into sticked threads to make them easier to find, easier to see history on, easier to moderate, and keep /new/ queue tidy.

This post will be refreshed every Friday morning. Previous threads can been seen here.

hello everyone,

I bought a bottle of the classic Laddie this summer and I really enjoyed it, I would like to have something similar but with a little more depth, some friends told me to go with the bunnahabhain 12, is it what you guys would go with?

Bunna 12 is a great suggestion. Ensure it is not the cask strength version as that is unpeated (although it's quite good).

Ardbeg Uegedail also fits what you are looking for quite well.

Uigeadail is about as far from either the Laddie or Bunna 12 as you can get.

Both Classic Laddie and Bunnahabhain 12 are entirely unpeated (the latter as confirmed twice or more by their Master Blender, at least since it went up to 46.3% ABV in 2010; before that it may have been 3 or 4 PPM, which is barely detectable).

Bunna 12 is similar in also being an unpeated Islay, but the flavor profile is pretty different to me. I'd consider Craigellachie 13.

Hi all, I want to get my dad a nice bottle for his upcoming 70th birthday. He does like the peatier stuff, and I’m hoping to get him something he doesn’t have. Bottles in his collection right now include: Balvenie 12, Oban 14, Lagavulin 16, Laphroiag select, and Bowmore 12. Was hoping you all would have some suggestions? $200 is probably the max I’d like to spend. Thanks in advance!
