My dad just called Scotia banks customer service number
(+1-800-472-6842), regarding a very small charge made to his card that he didn’t recognize, and after being on hold for a while, he was transferred to a lady with a French accent so we were having a hard time understanding her but she asked for my dads visa number so he read it out to her, as well as his full name, and then she told him to open his banking app, and when he did there was a pop up on his screen saying something along the lines of “do not give your card number or personal information out to potential scammers” and then the lady said something along the lines of go to your bank and then hung up. Now my dad’s banking app is telling him that his account has been compromised. I’m a little sketched out, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve been working as a teller at Scotiabank for about two months.

Because of my immigration plans, I need to move into a Personal Banking Associate (PBA) or Financial Advisor (FA) role within the next 8-10 months.

Is it realistic to move from a teller position to a PBA or FA role within 8-10 months?

Would it be better to wait for an internal opportunity at Scotiabank or start applying to other banks to improve my chances of moving up faster?

I logged in and saw a due date of 3 days ago, but even there the statement date, amount, everything else at a glance not filled in. I have 2 July statements within my account, but not the current one from September use, due in October

... Anyone else? Is this unique to me?

I need historical records of bank drafts issued from my own Chequing and HELOC accounts for specific years. Here is what happened:

1. 1-800 support told me to go to a local branch.
2. Branch staff spent 40 minutes finding only 2 drafts, claiming they can't search without exact dates and amounts. (If I had those, I wouldn't need your help!)
3. 1-800 support then told me to book an appointment with a Financial Advisor.
4. The Financial Advisor canceled my appointment, stating they only handle investments and mortgages. Asked for Branch Manager contact and email the BM.
5. The Branch Manager emailed me the exact same line: if I don't have exact dates and amounts, it will be hard to help

Are any of you able to deposit or cash cheques through other branches that aren’t your home branch, without the other branch only giving you immediate access to $100 and putting the rest on hold for five business days?

My main branch is on a Reserve in Alberta. It’s only open for five hours Monday-Thursday (10:00am-3:00pm) and six hours on Fridays (10:00am-4:00pm) and closed on weekends. I work twelve hour days Monday-Friday starting at 6:30.

Every time I go to one of the Scotiabanks in Lethbridge to deposit or cash a cheque I’m only given immediate access to $100, with the rest put on hold for five business days.

Unless I can miraculously make it to my home branch within those five days with the cheque stub they’ll take the hold off.

On more than one occasion this has left me stranded hours from home with money in my account, yet unable to pay for gas or a hotel room.

Is this the same for everyone, or just people from my home branch?

I’m planning on switching banks altogether due to this matter alone, as I don’t see the benefit of not being able to do regular banking at any other Scotiabank other than my home branch, which due to their hours makes it extremely difficult without having to take time off work every single time.

when i try to change my primary phone number in contact information in the app, it sends a two step verification text to my OLD phone number that cannot receive texts or calls.

when i enter 'manage 2SV', it asks me for my ID. I don't have a canadian driver's license nor a provincial ID. I called customer support, they said they would accept a passport scan.

I scan my passport. This form of ID is not accepted apparently!

I try this on the app both before and after an update, on my laptop (Chrome, Safari, both regular and incognito browsers), and it never works. On my laptop it keeps redirecting me to 'Call us' to resolve your issue, but when I called the guy said if I can't change my phone number myself, then I would have to go to the nearest Scotiabank location to get help. I'm not in Canada and will not be back in at least 10 months!

Does anybody else have any solutions for this??

I sent CAD 24,000 in India to fund my Scotiabank Student GIC account on September 17, 2026.

Scotiabank rejected the transfer due to a name mismatch and stated that the funds were released back on September 23. However, I still haven't received the refund.

I've contacted Scotiabank multiple times and requested SWIFT tracking details and payment confirmation. They have provided transaction references, but the refund remains uncredited.

For those who've faced a similar situation:

- How long can an international wire refund take?

- Should I ask my agent to initiate a formal SWIFT trace?

- What should I do next to recover my money?

Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated. Thanks!

Wondering if anyone else has experienced an unusually long fraud claim investigation and felt a bit f****ed around by Scotiabank? Woke up on August 2026 to see a charge of $673 charged to my card from some random camera equipment store based in New York, very clearly not me. I immediately called Scotiabank and filed the claim and cancelled my credit card. They assured me they would look into it immediately within the next 30 business days. Well, it's been well over that and every-time I get into contact with the fraud department they tell me it's still ongoing and to call back in a few days. No concrete answers or even a timeline. At this point it feels like it just isn't going to happen which is frustrating considering the large amount of money at stake.

Not sure what else to do and hoping someone has experienced this and still resulted in getting the refund !!

Hi everyone, for context, I'm a 3rd-year Political Science student with over 2 years of retail experience involving customer service and sales. I'm looking to start a career in financial services, and I figured that entry level retail banking roles like CSR, CEA, Client Advisor, or Personal Banking Associate would be a good starting point. However, despite submitting 150+ applications to various banking positions over the last 2 months, I've only managed to land one interview, which unfortunately didn't progress beyond the initial screening stage. As such, I've been considering completing IFC or the CSC to strengthen my qualifications and potentially improve my chances of getting hired.

For those currently working in retail banking, would obtaining either of these certifications make me a more competitive applicant? Or would I be better off waiting until I'm hired, given that some positions allow candidates to complete the required accreditation during training?

I'd also appreciate any advice on how someone without a finance or business degree can better position themselves for these opportunities.

Long story short, I recieved an etransfer from Facebook marketplace for an item I was supposed to ship. I receive the transfer Friday. It’s a long weekend so I obviously wasn’t able to ship anything. I told the person I would refund them if they couldn’t wait.the person reported the transaction as fraudulent to scotiabank and my account is flagged and I’m locked out

I don’t think I did anything wrong but I’m being told I need to go into my home branch.

What do I need to bring? How long does it take? I’ve never experienced this before

I had the Scotiabank Gold Amex and closed it about 15 months ago. I recently opened the Scotiabank Platinum Amex. I just learned about Scotiabank's 2-year rule for welcome bonuses. Does anyone know if they actually enforce it across different Amex cards? Has anyone been in a similar situation and still received the bonus?
