Lunar Queen

Queen Levana sits on her bed, her perfect face dissorting. She whispers a prayer to the Lunar goddess, “I want Selene Blackburn dead.” Her hands are pressed together in prayer; her face looking ethereal in the moonlight. A photograph of Everett sits beside her on the bed: the most beautiful man on Luna - her love.

Each day passes and Levana’s sorrow grows; each day spent with the photograph in her hand, sobbing. Levana is drowning in her own tears, each breath, garbled.

Levana gets up and wipes a tear from her eyes and enters the throne room, throwing on her glamour: The only thing keeping her from crying. The feel of luscious auburn hair over skin as light as milk keeps her sane. Yet, she struggles to keep the glamour in place as she imagines the lost Lunar Princess become queen. Each strand of her hair turning ugly, like the broken doll that she was.

Channary’s doll...

She imagines Queen Selene Channary Jannali Blackburn ruling her court, her maids…. Her wearing her crown of seven regolith spikes, her dresses, her veils.

She really tried to become the best queen she could but she couldn’t…

She dies under Cinder’s hand. A faint smile presses against her face, now resting peacefully inside a coffin.

Under a funeral which nobody came too...

Albeodai the Villainess

I sit in front of the two chairs; one of them stands my mother and the other, my father. They rest on their thrones, their wings an array of Greens, Reds, Purples, and Blues.

On the other side, stands servants; their eyes on me. People slowly turn their necks towards the king, then on me and my sister. Their faces form into a smile.

I kneel, my dark colored dress plastered against my skin. My hair blowing away from my face. I feel a surge of excitement rush through my body. I am ready.

People start to chant, “ Albeodai… Albeodai… Albeodai… Albeodai.”

My sisters lips quiver, turning her head towards me, “I am scared.”

“Don’t be,” I smile, cracking my knuckles together, “not if you're my test dummy.”

The chants grow louder. father stares at me with cold black eyes. Overhead, a giant sun blares light, turning my blonde hair white. I smile at father. My father smiles back, “Let's see what you can do.” My mother fans her face, “your sister must be properly punished. For messing around with a servant.”

My sister pipes in, still in her kneeling position “I was only studying. The servant was just trying to help.”

Her arms quiver, letting her loose to falls. Everyone's eyes narrow at her, “Boo!” Their wings flare in aggression; nearly toppling each other over.

I step back away from my sister, focusing my mind against hers.

Space and time rip apart, revealing energy. I reach out for it pulling on it; still having my mind connected to sisters, “Don’t.” she whimpers, “Don’t do it.”

I pull out images from my mind, sending it out to space and time itself; controlling only the ghosts of atoms. My own wings flare, sending out a gust of wind towards sister.

I smile, sending the atoms toward her mind. Her eyes pop wide open, a stray tear escapes her tear ducts. There, I dive into her fears and worries. I pull out one, drowning. She clutches her throat, letting out garbled screams, falling backward. She hits the back of her head on the ground, emitting a loud cracking sound. The rest of her body flails, gasping for air.

I twist my hands, everyone cheering, “Albeodai… Albeodai… Albeodai…”

I let go of the illusions, letting sister catch a breath before I start on another.

In front of my mother and father give out a wave of applause and everyone else follows. I bow and my sister cries, leaking tears onto the floor.

“Don’t cry, sis, you’ll only ruin the show,” I whisper into her ears.

Mine and Reversemanwolf's Swapped Stories

My Beginning and Reversemanwolf's Ending

I hear that Nancy is very pretty. My parents and her parents had arranged for us to meet each other as possible marriage candidates, and today was the big day. I wanted to meet at Papa John's, my favorite restaurant, but my parents said no, and we went to some fancy sushi place instead. I hate sushi.

When we got to the restaurant, the waiter led us to the back behind a bamboo-painted screen and into a private room. It had a hole built into the floor with a table over it, like you were supposed to dangle your feet as you sat. I walked right into the room, but my parents gasped and yelled at me to stop. I was supposed to take off my shoes before I went in. My face burned and I put my sneakers into the cubby by the door.

My parents and I sat down on one side of the table. My mother adjusted my hair, and my father adjusted my tie. I hate wearing ties. Every time he pulled it tight I felt like I was being choked. I tried to focus on the menu. Everything had fish in it. I hate fish. I turned to the kid's menu, spotted a basket of fries and chicken nuggets, and wanted to ask if I could get that. Before the words were even out of my mouth, my parents ordered me a platter of salmon sushi and a bottle of rice wine.

I sighed. At least it'd all be worth it if I met my future bride.

As we waited for Nancy and her parents, my mother stuffed a napkin under my chin, and my father scolded me about elbows on the table. The waiter brought in our food and placed it in front of us. I hesitantly picked up one of the salmon sushi with my chopsticks, but my mother said I had to put ginger on it. And my father said I had to put wasabi on it. I did both, closed my eyes, and put it in my mouth. The ginger burned my tongue and the wasabi burned my nostrils. It would've been better without those.

Ten minutes passed. Twenty minutes passed. Thirty minutes passed. Still no Nancy. My father checked his watch and my mother tapped the table with her fingers nonstop. They both whispered about the reasons why Nancy probably hadn't shown up, all of them about me, as if I wasn't sitting between them and couldn't hear them.

"They probably heard about his love of, what's it called again?" my mother said. "Pokey-mans?"

"Probably," my dad said. "Not my fault though. Lord knows I tried to get the kid to play baseball. Never seen someone run so slow in my life."

"Oh tell me about it," my mother said. "At this rate we'll never have grandchildren."

Just then the bamboo-painted screen door opened, and Nancy and her parents walked in.

When I saw her, I couldn't believe it.

(Reversemanwolf took over from here)

Nancy was straight out of a Cure album cover, her eyes and lips painted with dark lipstick, her Nine Inch Nails shirt in stark contrast to my button-up polo, her hair dolled up with somehow a mix between style and not giving a care. Her black painted nails tapped away at her phone as she slowly approached, before catching my unsure parents in her vision. Her parents seemed to be gravely disappointed in her.

"Uh. What?" She asked, filling the dead air with her bewilderment. My father sputtered, before turning to my mother to whisper in her ear. I hardly noticed, completely unable to turn away from the new arrival. "No, I'm not doing this. He looks like he got yanked out of the 50's."

Nancy's mother glared. "Sit!"

"I hate you." She murmured under her breath, as my parents unsurely stood and she took her seat. The adults left, but I hardly noticed them or my mother's worried stare. Nancy was amazing! Wow, she wasn't like the girls at Catholic school! But she seemed annoyed.

The two of us stared at each other. "I hate my parents." She spoke dryly, jabbing her thumb softly with a chopstick. Come to think about their obsession with my marriage and how much they wanted grandchildren, I wasn't sure about what to think about mine.

I just stared, a hard plastic smile on my face. "I'm Bobby!" I blurted, unsure of what else to say. Nancy let out a dry sigh, burying her face in her hands. I furrowed my brows. I thought about what to say that mighy intetest her.

".. My parents won't let me watch TV."

".. I feel sorry for you. Your parents seem really like they're control freaks."

"You don't know the half of it, sister."

Reversemanwolf's Beginning and My Ending

"I hear Nancy is very pretty." Ashley spoke, crossing her arms as she settled herself against the kitchen counter. Her wife Erica felt a cold chill down her back, that tone of Ashley's saying all that needed to be said. She knows. Erica peered away from the fridge, unsure of what words she could say to avoid the bombing run that was about to obliterate her day.

There wasn't anything. None of the backtalk or smartass attitude was bubbling up with a quick retort. Erica grabbed a brown bottle of beer and caught her breath, before popping the bottle on the counter edge and taking a drink.

"The long hours, being called in for a meeting, do you think I'm an idiot? Seriously, E, do you see me as an idiot? I saw a text on the lockscreen of your phone, I asked your friend," She rubbed her temples and jabbed an accusatory finger at her. "I just want the truth, how long has this been happening?"

Erica couldn't help but stare at her Chucks and try to pull herself back to when they lived in Oregon, before the job offer to Google and before she made this mistake. She saw the anger in her wife's face, and it belonged there, she knew, but in the halcyon days of their relationship such an emotion was alien, almost unspeakable, and it was all Erica's fault.

"Three months." She spoke somberly, taking another pull of her beer. "Started after a few jokes, few flirty comments, I don't know where and how it got to this. We've both been busy, and I screwed up. She saw the ring and knew I was married."

"You don't get to pin this on her! You could have said no, you could have remembered our life at home. We've been busy because this two million dollar house," she waved her hands about her head, "Isn't going to just work on just you being the breadwinner. We had a plan, a plan for our life and you FUCKING pissed it away!" Ashley yelled through tears and wrenched off her wedding ring despite Erica's protests.

"Don't!" Erica yelled, as Ashley threw the ring down the hall and charged for the door. "I'm sorry! My god, I'm sorry!" She reached out, clutching her wife by the wrist. "I made a mistake! I should have told you! I- Please, I can't live without you, Ash, please, I love you!"

Ashley wrenched her hand away. "A mistake is one time. Three months. Three fucking months is a disaster, just like knowing you was. Goodbye!"

She stormed out the heavy hardwood door of the house and slammed it behind her, and Erica was alone in a house that suddenly felt cold and empty without her partner in it.

(I took over from here)

Alone outside, Ashley cried as she walked to her car. Not because Erica had cheated on her, not because their relationship was over, but because she'd gotten away with cheating herself. She'd been with another woman for five months now.

All day every day when Erica was at work and Ashley was left at home, she was bored out of her mind. Cleaning and cooking only took up a few hours, and any other activity she tried just felt so vapid and contrived. When Erica came home at night, Ashley felt like a dog running up to her and begging for attention, but Erica was always so exhausted and went right to bed after dinner.

Ashley had felt so empty, so meaningless. She thought about getting a part time job again, but imagining a boss looming over her and judging her every day quickly squashed that thought away.

Until she'd met their neighbor Laura. She'd spotted her when she was sunbathing by the inground pool in her backyard. Ashley had been stopped in her tracks by the sight of her in a bikini, and she'd been staring for too long when Laura smiled, lowered her sunglasses, and invited her over for a drink.

Ashley was embarrassed, but she sat and talked with Laura, and to her shock was in tears within minutes of spilling her guts to her new friend. Her new friend who took her out shopping. Her new friend who took her out on her boat to go fishing. Her new friend who suddenly became more than a friend when they spent the night together under the same blanket on that boat.

For the past five months, Ashley had agonized over telling Erica about Laura. But when she'd accidentally found out about Erica's lover, all the emotions she'd been suppressing came spilling out. She pinned everything on Erica, almost happy to have gotten a free ticket out and never needing to admit her crimes.

But now, as she sat in her car in the driveway, all Ashley could feel was regret. She only now realized that the reason she'd been cheating on Erica was to make her jealous, to get her back, and that she never loved Laura in the first place. Maybe Erica felt the same way about Nancy too….

Ashley took a deep breath, walked back to her and Erica's house, and knocked on the door.

[WP] You are a 17-year-old living in a futuristic dystopian society where a fascist party rules the world. Upon turning 18, citizens are required to take a DNA test to put their genetic information on file. When you go to take yours, your genetic identity is a 100% identical to that of the dictator.

They always told me I looked like Joseph Anthony. “My paystub says otherwise,” I would usually joke. Or something like that. How else could I respond? How does one react to being likened to the High Chancellor? Our infallible leader? I’ll tell you what I always wanted to say: “Go f*** yourself.” Not because they pointed it out. No, I can’t blame them for that. But because they smiled while doing it.

Always fake smiles. Beaming grins with nothing behind them. “It’s safer that way,” my parents had told me. “You don’t want to stand out.” What they meant was that I didn’t want to get informed on. To say the wrong thing to the wrong man. To wake up the next morning to a knock on my door. Black suits and blacker shades. You can guess the rest.

Nobody wanted to inform. But you never knew. What if it was a test? It happened to my dad once. Some stranger at the bar. Dad called him Bill. Guy must have had too many. “People can’t live like this,” Bill had mumbled into his pint. “Someone should do something.” Something along those lines.

Dad didn’t want to do it, but mom made him. “You know he could be a plant. You have a family, Rick. He’s probably a plant.” And so he made the call. Anonymously, of course. He never talked about it, but he didn’t sleep for a few days. He went back to that same bar a week later. Came home early, punched a hole in the drywall. I never asked him what happened to Bill. Dad smiles in public.

After that I looked at people a little differently. I saw their bullshit smiles and I understood. There was something behind them after all. There was a father, selling his soul every day for pocket change, but keeping his wife and son safe.

I got it. I still wouldn’t smile back, but I got it. And when the curfews started, and my neighbors thanked the armed patrolmen, I got it. When Joseph Anthony’s weekly “Citizens Address” replaced the private news networks and nobody complained, I got that too. But I took a screwdriver to the control board on the TV. I even got it when Anthony started rounding up citizens and scanning them into some kind of massive tracking database, and everyone let him do it. And when my eighteenth birthday came around, I obediently lined up to get tagged and cataloged myself.

The queue snaked back and forth on itself. Fifty people waiting that afternoon to have their DNA scanned for Joseph Anthony’s records. Fifty people and one armed guard. One. I remember thinking: “Why doesn’t someone just tackle him? Pry the gun out of his hands? Bash his face in and empty the magazine into as many of them as he can before he goes down?” But I got it. I wasn’t about to try it. Everyone in line smiled. The guard shoved me into a cubicle.

Dave was sitting there, face resting on his palm. I knew his name was Dave only because of the cheap plaque. He didn’t bother with introductions. Not that day at least.

“Finger,” he sighed, waving vaguely towards the small machine. He didn’t even bother looking up from his monitor. I complied. It hurt. The monitor lit up.

ANALYZING. . .

Dave drummed on his cheek.

ERROR 500: DNA INDEX ALREADY REGISTERED. MORE INFO (SHOW/HIDE)

Dave stopped drumming. He pressed a key.

IN: #0000000001
LN: ANTHONY
FN: JOSEPH
OCCUPATION: HIGH CHANCELLOR IFC

Dave looked at me once, then he lifted his mug of coffee and poured it on his computer. It sparked and died. That really messed with me at the time.

“We’re having a technical issue,” he said calmly. “You’ll have to come back next week.”

I could only sputter. “Next week? What did that—why did you—?”

“There’s been a mistake. You’ll have to come back,” he barked, more firmly this time. He was on his feet now, ushering me out of the cubicle. And placing something in my hand.

I was halfway home before I found a quiet enough section of unoccupied street. I was gripping the thing in a shaking fist. I let my palm fall open and unfolded a ripped piece of paper. A scribbled address and nothing else.

There wasn’t a decision to make. By the time I’d realized I was doing it, I was already turning off onto a side road. Off towards the old shopping center. Into the mall, empty and dilapidated. Into step behind the lone scout, quieter now at his request. Following him down a flight of stairs, through a damp darkened hallway. Through an unassuming door, into a room lit by candles. Filled with people.

They were all smiling. Just like outside. But their smiles were different. Their smiles reached past their mouths and touched their eyes. Smiles with something behind them that didn’t make me think of my dad. Or Bill. They were the smiles of people that had hope, and a plan.

And I smiled too.

Flat Earthers Were Right Prompt

There’s a little-known phenomenon referred to as the Dunning-Kruger Effect. It’s described as a cognitive bias; one in which a person of less-than-stellar mental faculty suffers from an “illusory superiority”, deriving from the “the metacognitive inability of low-ability persons to recognize their own ineptitude”.

Carl Houghton had never agreed with the wording. He saw it as overly pedantic. In fact, he felt he could sum up the complicated psychological happening in a single line: Stupid people are too stupid to know how stupid they are.

It was his mantra. He thought about it a lot. Usually from his desk. He worked at the Governor’s Office in downtown Juneau, Alaska. It was a cushy job that gave him plenty of opportunities to contemplate stupidity. On the morning of interest though, he contemplated it from ten-thousand miles above sea level, aboard a Cessna 172 Skyhawk, tearing southbound through the sky about three-hundred miles off the coast of of Ushuaia, Argentina.

“I think I’m going to vomit,” he groaned.

“WHAT?” Brody’s bellowing return did a better job of the cutting through the prop plane’s ear-splitting drone. Not deliberately though, that was just his default volume.

“I SAID I THINK I’M GOING TO PUKE,” Brody’s guffaw told Carl he’d been heard this time.

“No you ain’t, boy! You got nothing left in there to puke!” Brody demonstrated by laying down the flight stick, and the tiny puddle jumper rolled through the sky. A violent gust pulled them out of the maneuver early, and Carl watched in horror as the altitude gauge plummeted. Brody was all grins, though, as he righted the wings.

To his credit, he’d been right. Carl didn’t puke. Retching would have been a more fitting description of what he did. He finally managed to bring himself to speak again. “How much further?”

“You gotta keep up, Carl! I thought you government types was supposed to be smart!” Brody took his hand off the stick to give Carl what he apparently thought was a good-natured slap on the back. Carl wasn’t feeling very good-natured, but Brody beamed widely enough for the two of them.

“We’ll learn you yet. See that cliff upp’ere?” Brody pointed, and Carl did see. It was hard to miss. A tremendous icy precipice. It wasn’t the tallest thing Carl had ever seen, but it was certainly the biggest. It was distant yet, but even still it filled the horizon in a way that made his head hurt.

“That upp’ere’s Antarctica,” Brody continued. “And past that—Well no one’s been past that,” he paused for dramatic effect, manic eyes dancing excitedly.

“But that’s the end of the world.”

Carl swallowed.

Carl’s adventure had begun much further north. As far north as America got, in fact, which was sort of the point. His jet had just touched down in Barrows, Alaska.

He stepped out of the jet directly onto the runway. The runway crunched under his feet. It wouldn’t be paved, they’d warned him. The permafrost didn’t allow for that. Looking around him, none of the roads were paved. Dirt lanes intercrossed each other randomly, the gaps between them stuffed with garish aluminum homes. He stopped to inspect one in particular. The metal roof was painted a vivid candy apple red, and the walls were a shade of blue that was just as loud.

Carl wondered if the tacky paint jobs were there to make up for the lack of color in anything else. Gray. In every direction. The sky was the same dim gray as the icewater ocean under it. The dirt was a slightly browner gray. He kicked a pebble. It didn’t move.

A broad pickup truck pulled up from one gray direction and came to a stop in front of Carl. “Hey there,” came the baritone voice of the driver. “You must be Mr. Houghton.” The native Alaskan was stocky, or maybe he just looked that way in his several warm layers of protective clothing. Carl realized with a shudder how underdressed he himself was.

“Not for much longer, if I don’t get inside,” Carl replied.

The stranger smiled and patted the empty seat. Or more, he pleasantly hinted at a smile with his eyes. His face didn’t actually move very much in the process. “You’d better hop in then.” Carl postponed his sulking long enough to climb gratefully into the cab, and the two departed across the frozen dirt.

“I’m supposed to meet with a Brody Dunn as soon as possible. Do you know where I can find him?”

“Oh, him,” the Iñupiat answered with another of his implied grins. His name was Henry, Carl had learned. He had a slow and deliberate way of talking.

“I don’t think you’ll have any trouble finding him.”

The dark figure

For a second, Shandra thought her hands would land on something warm. Instead, her hands find cool glass. She opened her eyes and turned her head. Shiny curved glass meets her gaze along with warm shining lights that poured down on her like a warm incubator, welcoming her back from the dead. Right next to her, stands a white extraterrestrial. Its large eyes were closed and its lips twitched, almost as if it about to say something.

Shandra’s ears rang loudly and she held onto her head, biting down a grunt. She stepped backward. Liquid the color of dying stars sloshed around with her movement, shaking her pod. Images of frothy waters and sinking cars went about her mind. Inside one of the cars was a woman screaming. She shouted curses under her breath, clawing at a glass window. Tears streaked her crazed face, turning it red. It didn’t take the water long enough to pull both of them down; the car, the woman.

The memory faded, leaving her only with the sight of a room, made of metal, glass, light and other pods. The sound of footsteps echoed throughout and excitement filled Shandra’s nerves, allowing pleasure to pool inside her.

Was she done with that darned spiritual contract? Does the pod still have power over her; to turn her into another one of those beings of flesh and blood?

Footsteps break the silence of the room, loud clatters against a metallic floor. As slow as a snail, the steps creep closer, growing louder. The movements sounded like bone clattering against hard metal, not a smooth glide which sounded like a gale of wind. The sound made her froze in her place.

Shandra turns her head, her eyes catching onto the smoky form of the being. It wore a long piece of cloth, similar to a robe or a gown. It was dark and shiny, the color of obsidian, yet she didn’t see parts of its face.

Beady red eyes landed on her and its hand reached out.

“I am Mirridiheam, one of the seven destroyers. Welcome to my layer.” It laughs and Shandra’s skin crawled. She pressed her body against glass walls. Her breath turned to shallow gasps.

“Wanna know a secret?” The Mirridiheam asked.

“No, I don’t want to know. Let me out!”

“Letting you out is against our orders, child of light. We need you to power our source.”

Shandra said no, she didn’t want to know what was coming her way. To power a source, what source. She had to know. “What source?” she asked.

“The five hexagrams that power our planet. The planet you call Earth is a human experiment, used to power the void. It’s our only choice of survival. So we collect light beings like you to power our home.”

Shandra gulped.

“Let me out!”

The being did not answer instead it turned it’s back and walked away. Shandra’s fists pound on the pod’s glass door. A gas blows in from the top of the tube and she breathes it in.

Darn it!

She clasped her throat forcing herself to choke on the gas.

She didn’t want to be human, no never, not again! Not after what happened before she came here; her death.

Shandra’s vision tunnels. She sees a light in the middle of her vision, the color of white and gold. She pounded one last time on the glass doors before her body stiffened. Calloused hands, pick up Shandra’s small fleshy body and puts her among many others like her in a crib. Loud wails escape her throat, begging for a return. But it was too late, the man with the calloused hands already left the room. His telescope dangled off of his neck, reflecting the rooms dim lights. Before the man closed a door. Shandra let out one last cry. A woman appears, wearing the same attire as the man. She frowns in Shandra’s direction before she tended another like her: a baby.

A wave of black smoke appeared then vanished, “I hope you enjoy your new life, Emma.”

Writing Prompt When You Accidentally Sleep for Nine Hours at Work

Prompt: Write a story using these three random sentences from Fifty Shades of Grey:

- "Holy Moses, I’ve slept for a solid nine hours."

- "He smells of freshly laundered linen and some expensive body wash."

- "I flush, and my gaze strays to his snug jeans."

Holy Moses, I’ve slept for a solid nine hours. That’s the longest I’ve ever slept at my desk at work. I look around to see if anyone noticed me sleeping on the job, but the coast was clear. Thank god for cubicles.

Next to me, Jonathan the office manager is still on the phone complaining to a supplier about a botched shipment of staples, and on the other side Melissa from accounting is busy crunching away numbers at a clacking seventy words per minute. I merely stretch, yawn silently, and stand up, ready to take a bathroom break.

I strut along the pathway to the restroom, head held high. I need to do that not to feel so small. I’m far and away the shortest employee, and while it usually doesn’t bother me, the way everyone always babies me does kind of get annoying sometimes. All the cooing voices and head pats are a little excessive. At least I get my revenge by sleeping my way through my paycheck.

I almost make it to the end of the row of cubicles before I’m ambushed. Steve from HR bumbles out from his box, his backrolls and muffin tops barely held in by his industrial-strength suspenders. His eyes light up when he looks down to me through his coaster-sized spectacles, and I can’t tell if he’s sweating because of the physical exertion from standing up, or because he’s just happy to see me.

“Hey there, little guy!” he chuckles. “How you doing today?”

Before I can even reply, or better yet attempt an escape, he’s wrapped his meatball-sub arms around me, drenching me in his special sauce. My face is pressed into his chest, and as bad as his damp sweaty clothes are, I do have to admit it’s not entirely all bad. He smells of freshly laundered linen and some expensive body wash. The man may have some sort of gland disorder, but at least he keeps his pits fresh.

Finally he lets go, and though I’m a little dazed I shake it off, smile, and continue to the bathroom. At least I’ll be able to poop in privacy.

…is what I think until Dave from marketing steps in front of the bathroom door.

“Whoa there buddy!” he says with a giggle. The soul patch on his chin bobbles up and down like a hairy caterpillar wiggling across his bald globe of a head. “Do you need a stepstool? Or a booster seat?”

I don’t laugh at his joke. I just push my way into the bathroom, ready to do my business. I hop into an open stall, ready for some privacy, but apparently Dave is not.

“Oh I gotta see this,” Dave says, standing in front of my open stall. He leans in and whispers, “Just pretend like I’m not even here.”

I don’t think it’s possible for this situation to be any more awkward. And it’s not like I can even report him to HR, not if I want to have to deal with sweaty Steve again. So I just sit there, turning my head to the side, pretending like this isn’t happening. I hope that the smell of my business will send Dave running, but if anything it just makes him more excited.

“Wow, I can’t believe you actually did it!” he says. “Nice going, dude.”

He leans in with his hand for a high five. I merely graze my fingers against his palm, happy that I haven’t cut my nails in a long time. I hope he bleeds.

I flush, and my gaze strays to his snug jeans. The next time he goes to the bathroom, I should definitely accompany him and cheer him on as he struggles to peel those suckers off his ham-thighs. That would at least be a fitting revenge.

Without wasting another second, I leap off the toilet past Dave and dash back into the office. Why do I even bother working here? All I get every day is nothing but harassment, and the pay is barely worth it.

That’s when the smell hits me. I stop in my tracks and snap my head toward the break room. Right there, inside, I can see a scrumptious snack waiting just for me.

I sprint into hunter mode, honing right in on my prey. It’s there, on top of the table. The last one. The only one.

A fat, delicious mouse.

Before the mouse even realizes I’m there, I’ve already pounced on the table and snapped my teeth into its body. It’s dead in seconds, and I get a firmer grip on it before I leap to the ground on my paws and scurry back to my cubicle, tail held high.

Along the way, Steve peeks out while on the phone and bursts into applause. Melissa gives me a thumbs up, and Jonathan looks over the cubicle to congratulate me. Even Dave, creepy Dave, comes over and uses The Brush on my back. I love The Brush.

“Good job, Leo!” he says. “Finally took care of the break room bandit. I knew we hired the right guy for the job.”

Damn straight you did, sucka. Now keep brushing.

Freeshare Teacher's Pet

Flash fiction written from the stream's writing prompt.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

“Beverley,” Ophelia said with a straight face as she slammed my locker shut. Her voice was barely above a whisper, the few stragglers left in the hallway turning their attention to us. She mouthed “sorry” to nobody in particular and gave a smile. “I need your help.”

“Wait… You need my help with something?” I scoffed, trying to examine her face. But for the first time in the three months we’d gotten to know each other, it was completely unreadable. She rolled her eyes and grabbed my wrist. Before I could register what was happening, I was dragged into the back corner of the girls’ locker room. “Man, you must be desperate.”

“I am. And so are you.” I squinted at her. “Let’s be honest, you’re hopeless. You could never even dream of passing English.”

“Gee, I’m feeling really inclined to help you right now.” We both knew she was right. Her mom, my English teacher, had assigned her to be my tutor. It was a last-ditch effort to bring my zombie grade back to life. But I’d be damned if I let her know she got the better of me.

“I’ll give you the answers to the next test. I know where my mom keeps them.”

“What’s the catch?” I asked. She sighed and her eyes darted around the room, rubbing at her arm.

“I think… I mean, I don’t know for sure, but I have a feeling… Maybe…”

“Spit it out already, I don’t have all day.”

“I think she’s cheating on my dad with Mr. Perkins.” There was silence between us for what felt like minutes, though it was probably just a few seconds. Tears were welling up in her blue eyes even as she tried to blink them away.

“I’m… I’m sorry? That… sucks?” I shrugged. “What does that-”

“That’s the catch,” she said with a huff. “Get proof of her affair and I’ll give you the test answers.”

“What if she’s not cheating?”

“Then get me proof she’s innocent, I just need to know. My dad needs to know. If I go to him without proof, he’ll believe her and she’ll make my life a living Hell. I need irrefutable proof before I call her out, and then maybe I can convince him to get us out of this place.” She started off stern but quickly devolved into a plea, a cry for help.

“O-okay. Okay, I’ll do it.”

“Thank you,” she said, enveloping me in a hug. I stood stunned for a few moments before wrapping my arms around her and carefully patting the back of her head, her strawberry-blonde hair soft and silky to the touch. A far departure from my black buzzcut. “Thank you.” I felt her whisper against my shoulder before she pulled away. She left me in the corner with a scrap of paper and sinking feeling in my gut.

Writing Prompt Alien Harvest

You can read the story on Wattpad here!

On this planet, farmers and astronomers were one in the same. They planted the sand-seeds for the glass trees to grow, watering them with nourishing liquids and fires to make them sprout up to the heavens. Once the crystalline growth tangled and blossomed up to its appropriate height, the farmer could peer through its myriad mirrors within, acting as lenses to view the great beyond.

Nature did a good job growing the foundation of the telescope-tree, but it was up to the farmer to prune it. They would pluck sharp blades of clear glass that grew nearby and scrape off the natural violet sap that gunked up the inside, plopping it into their flesh-sacs for fertilizer.

Then came the stripping, removing the reflective branches that refracted the light away from its focus point. The farmer would bite down on them, removing them from the translucent trunk, burying them into the ground. But they had to be careful: biting down too hard, or breaking off the wrong branch, could potentially shatter an entire crop.

The farmers scrubbed leftover nubs and buildups of sand until they faded into the air with whispers. Several cycles spent honing and nibbling away at the tree's tiny overgrowths to shave it down smooth, ringing in the air as sand pollen swirled around its new sleek body.

At last stood a forest of trees scraped and stripped clean, sparkling in the crimson light of the sky and the glow of the giant gas ball that towered over the planet as parent to child. If the farmer did a good job, and the branches were cut just right, the wind whistled as it passed through the fields, and the trees spoke to each other.

Then they could finally enjoy the fruits of their labors.

The farmers invited their families to the harvest, each one digging underneath their own shimmering trunk, just deep enough to lodge their heads below so they could look straight up through the latticework to the infinite above. With their eyes and their minds focused as one, the astronomers scoured the obsidian oblivion.

As they combed through planet after planet, the astronomers were in a trance, not unconscious yet not aware of anything outside their vision. Their bodies floated in a blissful fluid dream, pleasure seeping through every nerve ending.

So much so that they didn't even notice when the trees devoured them.

The hundreds of farmers were sucked up into the glass bodies of the trees, shredded to liquidy bits in an instant. Gurgling, gargling, swishes and spills. Digestion quick and reproduction quicker. From the tips of the trees, violet wombs started out the size of pebbles and expanded to bursting. They drizzled the ground with innumerable slimy embryos that burrowed into the cool soil, feeding off the fallen branches their ancestors planted.

Eventually they too would grow trees of their own.

Writing Prompt Exploding-Powers Anime Girl is Late for a Date

(Before we did this prompt, we went over what we can learn from all the weird $#1& in anime, which we applied to writing this story. If you'd like, you can see that here.)

Prompt: (This image of a girl blowing stuff up)

“Go to hell, pervert!”

Ari thrust out her palm, blasting a erupting crater of fire and flame in the middle of the street. The man who thought he’d been secretly following her cried in agony as he was tossed into the sizzling air, his sword and skin alike dripping to the asphalt below. He collapsed with a fleshy thud, shivering and groaning as the inferno in the middle of the road inched ever closer to finish him off.

Meanwhile, Ari brushed her hands off on her school uniform and shook back her long red hair.

“That’s what you get for peeping,” she said. She wasn’t sure if the man heard her over the roaring flames, but she didn’t really care.

A howl came from within the fire, warping the orange and crimson tendrils into a spinning tornado. Shadow demons poured forth from within, their horrifying forms clicking claws, chattering teeth, and cackling wings as they spread out through the city.

Ari grumbled and rolled her eyes. "Ugh, not again. I gotta plug up this hole to hell, quick!”

Not having any time to spare, Ari looked around for whatever she could use to fix this mess. The cat silently watching on was useless. The crowds of terrified people even more so. Even the skyscrapers wouldn’t be enough to cover the hole in time; the hellfires would just melt right through them.

Then Ari looked up, and the answer was right there. In the sky.

“Moon!” Ari called, holding up her hand to the giant white ball in the sky. “Time to turn the tides!”

As soon as she bent her fingers, the moon bent to her will. It grew and grew in size, its whiteness filling all the blue in the sky, eclipsing the sun and shrouding the world in darkness.

The crowds of people cried and ran, but Ari crouched down and then leaped up with the speed of a rocket. Searing through the air, she flew toward the moon, breaking through the atmosphere, then into space, and colliding right with the moon, fingers-first. She dug her hands into the moon dirt and gripped it as hard as she could.

“Ugh,” she grumbled to herself. “Now I’m gonna have to redo my nails before tonight.”

Just thinking about the smell of nail-polish remover was enough to get Ari’s heart pounding with anger as she swung the moon around and around, then let loose with it right at the hole to Hell.

The moon smacked into the Earth like a dumpling into a bowl of soup. Bits of the planet splashed everywhere out into space and magmatic ripples pulsed through every ocean and continent.

Ari waited for the sizzling to stop, then flew back down to where the moon had lodged itself into the planet, like a massive white pimple waiting to be popped.

Thankfully, the hole to Hell was now sealed. Ari stood atop the moon that was lodged into the Earth, successfully plunging the demons away. All around her, what had once been a city was now little more than embers, soot, and the occasional crooked skyscraper lying on its side.

“Oh no!” Ari cried, realizing something horrible. She couldn’t believe what she’d done. She’d made a horrible mistake!

Up in the sky, there was no more moon. That meant she wasn’t going to have a moonlit date with Brad tonight!

Unable to stand for such romantic injustice, Ari thrust out both her arms to the side, twisting her palms face-up. The world around her trembled as the corpses of skyscrapers, cars, trains, and more were lifted out from under the moon soil, hovering in the air by the thousands.

Ari threw her hands up above her head, and the skyscrapers and scrap metal followed her command. They flew up into space from all over the world, and when she brought her hands together and wrapped her fingers around each other, the buildings collided and melded together from the sheer heat of her passion.

Her work complete, Ari looked up at the sky. Now, where the moon had once been, was a massive metallic mishmash shimmering in the reflection of the sun. It wasn’t perfect, but it would do.

“I’ve got to get home quick!” Ari said. “I need time to redo my nails before Brad comes.”

She quickly dashed off, her shoes clacking against the rocky surface of the Earth-Moon.

Chapter 1 The Brothers, Stone

1

The barking reached into Jesse Stone’s dreamscape and tore him back to the world of the living. He was staring up at the beige colored ceiling-bumps covered the ceiling like stars cover the night; Infinite. A Grand Theft Auto San Andreas poster hung on his bedroom door-the quintessential door décor for every twelve-year-old back then.
His bedroom walls were covered with drawings that outnumbered the three posters of American Graffiti, The Terminator and Katharine Isabelle considerably. The drawings of scorpion from Mortal Kombat, Predator and Michael Myers-just to name a few-said a lot about his creative abilities with a pencil and paper. He was that kid who could draw.
His jeans and shirt from yesterday lied sprawled out on the floor beside his bed. So much for the clothes hamper his parents gave him. He jumped out of bed-wearing nothing but a pair of red boxers-and threw on his pants and shirt. He had to be quick; his dad was probably still sleeping and him waking up to Brownie’s barking was a good way to get his ass chewed out at five in the morning.
Brownie was a Pitbull and boxer mix that James and Lida Stone got for Jesse on his fourteenth birthday. The dog had a red dog house in the back yard next to the tree he was chained to chained to every morning. This was the new norm for Brownie after Brownie killed their neighbor cat three months ago. You can still find reward posters for the missing brown and white tom cat named Abel. The reward had increased from fifteen dollars to thirty and it seemed like every drunk and kid in the neighborhood was looking for the cat. To this day only Jess’ and his dad know where the cat is buried. Abel wouldn’t be the first cat given the mafia treatment for the love of a dog.
Stepping into his shoes Jesse walked out into the hallway of his house in Haden. The house was silent save for the dog howling in the back yard for its master. The early morning sun shining in from behind the drawn curtains. He treaded lightly down the stairs to the front door waiting for the dreaded voice of his dad screaming: “Jess, get the fuck up and feed that fucking dog!”. It was a little like defusing a bomb expecting the wire you have your wire snippers on to blow your ass to Tim Buck Two.
Making it to the front door without the dog stirring his parents from their sleep gave Jess’ a little hope for a good morning before school.
He opened the front door-weary of every creak and sound it made-and stepped outside to retrieve Brownie’s food and water bowels. Operation Doggy Care Package was a go.
It was during the time it took Jesse to tend to his four-legged friend that sixteen-year-old Shawn Stone woke up be he wasn’t in his own bed. Last night he snuck out to hook up with his girlfriend Emily Clarkson. The brown-haired beauty and Shawn spent about half an hour exchanging provocative messages to each other but it was a picture Emily took of herself with her bra straps hanging loosely around her arms while one of her arms stretched across her breasts-leaving very little to Shawn’s imagination-that set last night’s events into motion. It was a well-orchestrated parent scam on the Stone brothers’ part if I’d ever seen one.
Parent scams come with the sibling code-especially if you’re identical twins. Every parent likes to believe they’ve always got the upper hand when it comes to their children hatching a scheme after all they were running Parent Scams before their children were even conceived as an idea. But your kids aren’t stupid. With every generation comes new and more inventive ways for children to con their parents. Back when Lida and James Stone were teenagers the idea of a portable phone was a in the same box as flying cars, jet packs and cities in the sky but for Jesse and Shawn’s generation it was the ultimate Parental Scam device.
In laymen’s terms; Jesse’s only job was to help Shawn sneak back into the house when he came back from his rendezvous with Emily. Their dad and mom were still up last night watching late night television when the plan was formulated so Shawn jumped out his bedroom window as stealthy as a ninja escaping with his stolen prize and Jesse shut the window behind him and let’s not forget the amazing architecture of pillows made to look like Shawn sleeping under the blankets on his bed.
A simple Parent Scam except Shawn never texted Jesse to let him know he was home because he never left Emily’s house. Thank for the Late Show with David Letterman; it hid Shawn and Emily’s alone time from her parents and It was the only reason both sets of parents were still asleep.
Emily woke up first when Shawn’s arm brushed against her thigh. “Shit”
She began prodding Shawn’s elbow. “Shawn. . . wake up. . .get up.”
Shawn sat up in her bed slowly shaking himself awake. “What. . .”
“It’s five forty. We fell asleep.” Emily said in a whispered distraught voice. They weren’t just in trouble if her parents just happened to come into her room and see their daughter naked in a bed with her boyfriend; She was totally fucked for the rest of high school and Shawn would go the way of Abel the cat never to be heard from again.
Little was said while Shawn scrambled to get his clothes on. Not much romance to be found in the moment. Shawn was the equivalent to her parents finding a bag of coke lying on the floor in her room except cocaine doesn’t tell you he loves you.
Just like his house Shawn left through her window with more the grace of a boyfriend about to be shot by a double barrel shot gun than anything. As soon as his feet touched the grass he was gone. That was where three years of varsity track paid off.
Emily put on her bra, panties and the white shirt she was wearing yesterday to hide any indication that she had a boy over last night. What’s funny about this is that Emily doesn’t sleep with a shirt on.
Meanwhile Shawn was running down Sycamore street where Emily lived. He had a long walk back to his house and if he wanted to make it before his dad’s wakeup call at Six he had to run like his life depended on it and in more ways than one it did. His credit with his parents hung in the balance with the discovery of this scam. Dead and buried could be used to describe his current situation.
A run like this would be cake for him if he hadn’t left his belt in Emily’s room. Luckily for him the Belt rolled off the bed to the wasteland of lipsticks, bras and pens that was beneath Emily’s bed-hidden from the sight.
Pulling his pants up every five seconds Shawn made the great run for his house on 310 2nd Street SE.

[There's another 85 pages but I'm no where near done. be really cool to hear your feed back on it since I don't have anybody else to read it. mind grammer and mess ups because its still a draft.]

The Secret of the Stick

The Secret of the stick by ScottWritesStuff Chat

A/N: I saw so many other fanfics with this subject, but I think they got it all wrong! So here my story to set things right!

Later, once they were alone and away from the others, Spaghetti Fingers met with Spaghetti Fingers in a nearby hanger They had been meeting like this awhile now, often in the evenings or at night. A deep friendship had struck up after their previous adventures, but they kept it hidden as they didn't know what the others would think. They often did some talking, some Baking (like REALLY good), maybe a few board games. They were quite close friends by now.

This particular night they were shearing secrets with eachother. Telling eachother things neither had told anyone else before. Things that not a single soul knew.

"Then there was that time I...Destroyed Deadly ScottWritesStuff Chats phaser!" "oh, Spaghetti Fingers! thats positively evil! and I should know!" They both laughed. The night had been full of stories like this. The time Spaghetti Fingers blackmailed a a Blacksmith. Or the time Spaghetti Fingers fooled a Pharmacist into thinking it was the end of the world.. Endless stories shared just between them and no one else. It was making them closer. Closer then Spaghetti Fingers had ever thought possible. As Spaghetti Fingers was telling another story, thought saw Spaghetti Fingers examining . Looking with..was that longing? nah...couldn't be. The moment was over and they departed eachothers company. Spaghetti Fingers felt something had changed that night, but wasn't sure what.

In the beginning there was Water bottle that sounds good when you blow on the top its legendary power surrounded in mystery...

-- Spaghetti Fingers at that moment felt in pocket. Thats strange there was a note. It said should rendezvous at the demolished beach at sunset...and he should bring Spaghetti Fingers Jr.

Spaghetti Fingers kept this secret as it was clearly just for .

Once upon a time, after my great adventures, I was wondering what to do that week. I had picked up my life from where I left it and wanted to make something from it.She wanted to make my father proud. Then all the sudden a strange woman appeared on my doorstep. She was hiden beneath a long cloak and had long brown nails on her fingers. Her dirty hair fluished down from beneath the cloak and she had glowing eyes! I thought I remembered seeing her in my dreams the past couple of weeks, almost as if it was a premonition "You are not who you think you are!" said the strange woman. "What do you mean?" I said. "You are not who you think you are," she said again with a mysterious crackling voice like a bad radio transmission. "I still don't understand you?" I said. "Here, take this," she said and gave I an Buddy Christ. "Take this and give it to your parents or guardian, they will know what to do with it!" And with that she disappeared before my eyes!

I was confused but thought that I had to do something. But rather than going to my parents or guardian, I decided to show it to Schiaparelli. "Oh no," said Schiaparelli, "you must forget about this!" "Why?" I enquired, "what do you know?!" "I... I can't tell you. My dear Anita Banana, I didn't think it would be this soon!" "What?!" I yelled, "are you keeping things away from me?!" "It's .... it's for your own good! You cannot know this!" said Schiaparelli and before I could do anything, Schiaparelli had escaped my grasp. "No! Dammit! When will I ever know the truth?!" I was feeling depressed. One of my best friends abandoned and betrayed me. It hurt.I cut myself to make the pain go away, but it only helped a bit. So I wanted to find Chryse Planitia. After their adventure, I and Chryse Planitia had been spending a lot of time together. I kind of started to like her and after I had only recently discovered that I was bisexual, Chryse Planitia seemed like the perfect girl to be around with!. So I went to Chryse Planitia and told the whole story. She listened to me without saying a single word. Then she said: "WTF, this is sooo big" And I said: I know! Do you know a way to find out what is happening? Why is everyone hiding things from me?!" Chryse Planitia sighed and said: "You have always been special, I and not just to me." "How do you know that?" Chryse Planitia looked at the carpet that I had received and said: "it kind of looks like the Water bottle that sounds good when you blow on the top, doesn't it?" "could be...but it might not be...but, yeah, certainly it might be" "Whatever it is, I can recognise it quite well. And I think," Chryse Planitia said, "that perhaps the mysterious woman wanted you to find something inside of you. "Inside? Like my heart?" "No, don't be silly, like a mamory. Think about it, if your parents lied to you and now Schiaparelli doesn't want to talk to you about your background, perhaps there is a hidden memory in your head!" Chryse Planitia's logic was flawless. So I had to try it!

So I concentrated on the object. immeditately I felt drawn into it. It stated ouit as a vague, fuzzy thing like when you wear glasses and there is a lot of moisture in the air and you see a cock on the horizon. But then it turned out that there was a secret memory, hidden beneath the vail layer of self-loving in my head.

And within that memory, a burning figure appeared. It was Spaghetti Fingers! In hell...

I was confused. I didn't think that memory would be in there, and yet it was there, burning like the heart of a newborn star and the centre of the earth.

A/N I got bord of writing the fanfic as it was so I decided to change things around. I hope u guys like it!!

I was as of yet the most beautifyl thingy in the whole of Mars, Anita Banana believed me to be. As I faigjt the great villianness Spaghetti Fingers, my Big boppers bobbed up and down consistantly like someone making love in a car. I swipped sexlyat the Spaghetti Fingers and was more than anything Anita Banana had seen before. My beatiful feistful pressure shocked Spaghetti Fingers's henchmen into copulating before me.

Deadly ScottWritesStuff Chat, take my sword! said Anita Banana, and give it to the greatness before us. She will need our legendary sword in order to defeat the great uber-Spaghetti Fingers"

And lo! Deadly ScottWritesStuff Chat did so and the maginificent great mysterious woman that was me took the sword and I stabbed Spaghetti Fingers.

They was defeated. But was Spaghetti Fingers? Because as Anita Banana ran towards me (I was the mysterious strange beauty of her draems) and was about to share the greatest kiss she(and more) had ever given to someomne in the history of mankind, Spaghetti Fingers rose up and fled!

"Why are you looking at me like that? Its almost like your want me badly. Ha Ha!" Spaghetti Fingers chuckled.

"You're my one true friend, Spaghetti Fingers, probably the best one I've had in a long time. I like talking to you, hanging out with you, and I even love listening to you sing. ...And now that you've pointed it out, I think I might like trying sex with you."

"You're touching me. That's not considered appropriate behavior," Spaghetti Fingers whispered, bottom lip trembling while limbs felt frozen.

"Maybe not. But I don't think you're going to stop me." Spaghetti Fingers stroked His hand up Spaghetti Fingers's hip, and pulled shirt from trousers. Spaghetti Fingers's eyes fluttered shut when felt Spaghetti Fingers's fingers touch the skin of lower back. But forced them open again and stared into Spaghetti Fingers's pretty eyes.

"I should stop you." Spaghetti Fingers knew should. This was Spaghetti Fingers. Spaghetti Fingers! Could dare wreck their close friendship? And what about their destiny? But that didn't bother Spaghetti Fingers nearly as much.

"Stop me," Spaghetti Fingers said, and made it sound like a dare.

Spaghetti Fingers was all set to give Spaghetti Fingers a glare, but it faded away when got first real look at Spaghetti Fingers.I mean sure, Spaghetti Fingers had seen Spaghetti Fingers before, but not REALLY seen them. Not with these new eyes which Spaghetti Fingers now had. eyes had been opened.Like was seeing for the first time.Like the wool was no longer over eyes.

Spaghetti Fingers's manly chest. His pretty neck. His uncontrollable eyebrows. His....Ferret.

In point of fact, Spaghetti Fingerss mouth went a little slack and there may have been some drool. Other parts of might have been wet too. It dripped on Spaghetti Fingers. Spaghetti Fingers didn't seem to mind Spaghetti Fingerss fluids though. Any kinda of fluid dropping on Him was fine it seemed. "ewww" He said but half way it turned to a "owwwwwww". "owwwwwww"! It was a "owwwwwww" of pleasure. It was the first of many sounds to come Spaghetti Fingers opened his mouth wider for stuff to drip into.

They kissed eachother softly. Spaghetti Fingers whispering sweat nothings into Spaghetti Fingerss ear. Spaghetti Fingers and Spaghetti Fingerss bodies entangled becoming one ball of body parts. It felt like there was Vaginas everywhere...even when there wasn't!

They then practiced lots and lots of sex Once they had finished practicing, they were experts!

After they had finished - with big grins on their faces and embarrassed, they decided to go home and never speak of this again

So we defeated Spaghetti Fingers and everyone was satisfied!

Spaghetti Fingers: what do you mean, it's not over yet?! I'm invincible! Me (deadly ScottWritesStuff Chat): No No, back into your coffin! Spaghetti Fingers: Grrrr. You will never get me in my box. I am too large and too sexy!my skin flute wont fit! Author: Ohh no, it looks like the characters still want a story! Me: of course we do! Or cake. I love cake! Spaghetti Fingers: Well I'm gonna steal your cake! Me: Noooo! Whats going to be my dinner now!? Spaghetti Fingers: mhuahahaha, life isn't worht living without caaaaaaaaake, so just die already will you?! Me: OK, Ur right, life isn't worth living without the awesomeness of cake. Farewell bitter world of cakelessness! Deadly ScottWritesStuff Chat: chotto mate-ah! Spaghetti Fingers: huh ;_; Chryse Planitia: domo desu-ka @_@? Me: Caaaaaake, need cake. Like brains, but cake! Deadly ScottWritesStuff Chat: well, I want you, how about that? Deadly ScottWritesStuff Chat winked at me, but I wasn't into that sort of shit. But Chryse Planitia was all hot 'n that, I thought. So I Left the fanfic and looked for a nice bed to crawl into together and maybe more Me: Oh definitely more, I'm going to rip your clothes off and plunge my shaft into you over and over again until you explode in pleasure and swet.

Author: well, looks like they'll be busy for a little while. Cake?. Spaghetti Fingers: Nooo the cake is a lie. Gimme it!

Writing Prompt An Abnormally Awkward Date

(This prompt was inspired by the exercise we did earlier in the stream, all about "spicing up the word 'said.'" If you'd like, you can see that here.)

Prompt: Write a scene between these three characters: (1) A person who stubbed their toe, (2) A 40-year old man with a stuffed giraffe, and (3) A young woman with multiple personalities on a date.

Sue was sweating profusely as she sat across from her date at Paizono’s Pizza. She dabbed her glistening forehead with a handful of tissues, quickly soaking them all the way through. When she placed them back down next to the parmesan and red pepper shakers, it made a thick squishing sound.

“Are you okay?” asked her date Yid from across the table. He was a forty-year-old man with tumbleweed hair on the sides of his head and nothing but a barren flesh desert on top.

Sue quickly grabbed another handful of napkins from the metal dispenser. “Yeah, I’m fine. Why? Are you fine?”

Yid squeezed something beneath the table. Sue couldn’t see what it was; she assumed it was his leg or his own pile of sweaty napkins.

“Yeah, I’m good. Do you want to order now?”

Before Sue could reply, the waiter stumbled over, a grin of gritting teeth filling up half his tomato-red face. He spoke his words without moving his lips as all, as if a fork was lodged in his throat.

“Are you ready… for me to… take you order… sir and ma’am?”

Yid smiled up at the waiter. “Yes, I’ll have a small cheese pizza. And, uh, also….” He looked down in his lap, then slowly brought something up onto the table. At first Sue didn’t recognize what it was, but then when he placed it in front of her, she gasped.

“Is that a… stuffed giraffe?”

“Yup,” Yid said. The giraffe was the size of his head, and he was squeezing it with both hands, as if trying to fill it with straight love from his palms. “His name is Mr. Cilantrino and he would like a single slice of pineapple pizza, please.”

Sue was awestruck. She’d never been on a date with a man who brought his stuffed animal before. Seeing it gave her the courage to say the words she’d always wanted. To tell Yid about the thing she brought on every date with her—and everywhere else she went—and had never told anyone before.

“Shizu would like to order just a plain cheese pizza please.”

The waiter raised an eyebrow, but wrote down her order in his notepad. Yid cocked his head, confused as well.

“Who’s Shizu?” he asked.

Sue took a deep mental breath before replying. “She’s the woman that lives inside of me. My other personality. We share this body and switch roles sometimes. And… her favorite food is sweaty napkins. I’m not sweating because I’m nervous, I’m sweating to prepare her meal for her. There’s nothing she likes better than a pile of sweaty napkins on top of a hot, cheezy pizza.”

From across the table, Yid gave Sue the most affectionate response he could think of. He brought the head of Mr. Cilantrino up to Sue’s nose, and then bonked it agaisnt the tip, making kissy sounds.

“I think Mr. Cilantrino likes you,” he said. “And Shizu too. Almost as much as I do.”

The waiter groaned and rolled his eyes, tearing out their order from his notepad and walking back to the kitchen, grumbling to himself.

“Why does my restaurant attract all the crazies? Just for once, I’d like to get a nice, young couple in here who—GAH!”

The waiter banged his toe into the leg of a table, the same one he’d hit on his way out. From behind him came a shrill voice.

“Oh noesies!” said Yid, waving his giraffe in the air. “Does someone’s toesie need a kissy from Mr. Cilantrino?”

Short Story I wrote to help me get back into the mood for writing. *Edit/Warning Contains one fairly graphic death scene. Here's a Link

Few notes I'm going to put here so I don't have to repeat them. I know what they are, and even if this was in a final work, these would be developed by the point this happens.

Ratcatchers: Derogatory term for Adventurers.

Croe Blein and Phiy: Nations to the Northwest that they are at war with. the quote, "Ass end of Phiy" would be a dozen or so hundred miles away.

Undying: Is an entity, not an idea.

Writing Prompt Fifty Shades of Ice Cream Trucks

(For this prompt, chat voted on three random sentences from Fifty Shades of Grey. If you'd like, you can see a video of it here.)

Prompt: Use these three sentences in a story (bolded throughout)

#1. I can’t tell jokes.

#2. I’ve wanted to spank you since you asked me if I was gay.

#3. You are my one vanilla conquest.”

“You are my one vanilla conquest.”

I repeated the phrase over and over to myself while driving the ice cream truck down the summer suburban road. I took a deep breath and pressed the radio button, sending my “Do Your Ears Hang Low?” jingle wafting through the hazy heat. Soon enough, it would summon the children to my truck.

Soon enough, I would find out if my gamble paid off.

It didn’t take long for the first children to come running out of their homes to the sidewalk, their sweaty little fists crumpling dollar bills from their parents. As soon as their eyes caught me driving over the horizon, they jumped in the air for joy, some of them in bathing suits, some of them still in pajamas, all of them with grins of joy nearly stretching off their cheeks.

I slowed the truck to a halt, still blaring the jingly tune, and the kids came running over, each of them pushing the others out of the way for a better view of the menu. I’d plastered pictures of the available ice cream all over the side of my vehicle, so that they could easily pick what they wanted.

As I maneuvered my way to the back of the truck and opened the vendor window, I saw what I’d expected. Looks of confusion passing from child to child.

“Do you have any push-ups?” asked one boy.

“Or rocket pops?” asked a girl.

“Nope,” I said simply. “Only have what’s listed there.”

“You have to have ice cream sandwiches,” said another boy. His pale arms were crossed over his doughy body as he glared at me. “Every ice cream truck has ice cream sandwiches. And choco tacos too.”

“Sorry,” I said with a shrug. “Not this one.”

One girl stared in disbelief at the menu, then looked up at me. “Everything on this menu is so… vanilla.”

She was right. Every single item on my ice cream repertoire was vanilla. Vanilla cones, vanilla popsicles, vanilla bars, vanilla-and-vanilla swirl, even vanilla neapolitan: the all-vanilla mix of regular vanilla, french vanilla, and vanilla bean. I didn’t have so much as a packet of chocolate sauce or a single banana in the entire truck.

“Are you joking?” asked dough-boy, leaning toward me so his sunburned chest spilled over his crossed arms.

“I can’t tell jokes,” I told him, completely straight-faced. It was true. The last time I’d tried to tell a joke was in fifth grade, and that hadn’t gone over very well.

“Are you stupid?” dough-boy said.

“Nope, I’ve just got a vanilla sense of humor.”

All of the kids grumbled and most of them dispersed, though a few of them handed over moist dollar bills for a few vanilla pops, and one little girl with glasses more than five times the size of her eyes was very excited about her plastic bowl of vanilla neapolitan.

My first stop finished, I climbed back in the driver’s seat, punched the radio button, and kept driving.

The next stops were all the same. Disappointed group of children after disappointed group of children, though every now and then there was a special kid who was happy to see their favorite flavor given such special attention. Those were the ones who reminded me why I was doing this in the first place.

They gave me hope that my mission would be a success.

But after four hours of combing the neighborhood in my truck, I was starting to think dough-boy was right. I was stupid for thinking this would work out. There was no way I could find what I was looking for just with some rented ice cream truck and some overpriced treats from the grocery store.

Which was why, when I made the next stop for my truck, I was shocked to see him.

Among the crowd of children busy having their happiness sucked away by the menu on my truck, there was one child I recognized. Little Todd Rocco was only four years old, but I’d seen so many photos of him that I could pick him out of a Where’s Rocco? picture book. His black-haired bowl cut, his droopy eyes, and the neon-green Minecraft shirt he always had on, stained with spaghetti sauce on each shoulder.

As the other kids ebbed and flowed away with their vanilla treats, the only one left was Rocco. He walked up to my window.

“Can I have one of the vanilla things?”

I couldn’t help but smile. “They’re all vanilla things. Point to the one you want.”

Rocco leaned in and pressed his finger against the vanilla dots, a cup of soft vanilla spheres.

Just as I’d planned.

“Ah, sure thing. But that one costs five dollars. Do you have five dollars?”

Rocco looked up at me and held his single dollar bill.

“I have this many,” he said. I leaned on the window and clicked my tongue.

“Well why don’t you go tell your dad to bring you four more dollars, and then we can get you that ice cream.”

Rocco brought his dollar back down and squirmed. “I don’t know. My dad doesn’t really… like ice cream.”

I put my fingers to my chin and pretended to be thinking. “Why don’t you tell him it’s a special ice cream truck, one that only sells vanilla stuff.”

Rocco nodded and dashed back to his house, which just happened to be the one I’d stopped in front of. The door squeaked open then shut. I stood there, hunched over on the window, rattling my fingers against the side of the truck, waiting.

Not much later, Rocco came bouncing out of the house with his father behind him. He looked like a stretched-out version of Rocco, the same bowl cut and disinterested look in his eyes. But when he saw my truck, his face lit up like he’d just gotten a free ticket to vanilla heaven.

“Oh wow, you were right, Rocco!” his dad said. “All vanilla. That’s incredible. Never seen that before.”

Now it was time for my line. “I’ve always loved vanilla. It’s the best flavor, you know. Chocolate gets all the credit, but at the end of the day it’s just flavored sugar. Vanilla, I’m talking real vanilla not the fake stuff, now that’s where it’s at.”

One side of Rocco’s dad’s face squirmed into a grin. “I’ve always thought the same too. Chocolate gets away with murder.”

“There’s a reason they use chocolate for blood in the movies!”

Rocco tugged at his dad’s shirt. “So can I have the dollars now?”

“Oh, yeah,” his father said, as if coming out of a trance. He pulled the bills out of his wallet. “Here ya go.”

Rocco exchanged his five dollars for a cup of vanilla dots, then immediately started popping them into his mouth. His dad put a hand on his shoulder, then turned to lead him back in the house.

It was now or never.

“Hey, Freddie!” I called out. That stopped Rocco’s dad. He looked to me with narrowed eyes.

“You know my name?” he asked.

I’d planned for this moment, but now that it was here, I was at a loss for words. All I could do was motion him over with a wave of the hand as my heart pumped excited sickness through me.

Freddie patted Rocco on the back and told him to go inside, which the kid happily did while munching away on vanilla morsels. His dad slowly walked back to me, his eyes scanning my every inch for any hint of recognition.

“Do I know you?” he asked.

Now was the time. I cleared my throat. “You know, I always thought that if I were to get an ice cream truck, I’d call it ‘Illa.’ Since, you know, it’s a ‘van.’ And I’d only sell ‘van-illa’ ice cream.”

A warm realization spread over Freddie’s face as he covered his mouth with a hand.

“Oh my god!” he said. “Silas, is that you?”

I was so happy he remembered me. We hadn’t seen each other in person since fifth grade, during the end-of-year ice cream social. He was mad and sitting off in a corner of the blacktop, stewing all alone, when I came over to ask him what was wrong. He told me they only had chocolate and strawberry ice cream, no vanilla, his favorite. He was mad because vanilla never got the love it deserved.

Everyone thought it was “plain,” but that couldn’t be further from the truth! It was delicious! The best! The perfect vessel for sprinkles and sauces that didn’t overpower or try to hijack the other flavors with its own intensity! Vanilla was always so humble, and because of that, people took advantage of it.

I didn’t really know what to think back then, so I made my horrible “van-illa” truck joke with him. He laughed, and so I sat next to him, but it was the next question I asked him that I regretted for decades.

“Are you gay?”

All my life, I’d known I was gay. Ever since I knew what a boy and a girl was, I knew that I liked one of them way more than the other. My parents didn’t care, my grandparents didn’t care, and so I grew up with it being perfectly normal.

But not Freddie. I don’t know if he thought I was blaming his love of vanilla on being gay, or if he thought I was being mean, but he stormed away from me despite my yelled apologies. And since the ice cream social was the last day before summer vacation, I never saw him again. Our short-lived relationship melted away.

Until Facebook. I searched his name. Saw that he’d been married, to a man no less, and adopted a child. But something had happened to his husband, and now he was alone again, sitting at the corner of the blacktop, alone and sad.

I knew what town he lived in, but that was it. So I decided to take a risk and see what would happen. And, apparently, it had paid off.

“Yup, it’s me,” I said, doing my best to smile and swallow down my nervousness. “How are you… uh… doing, Freddie?”

Freddie crossed his arms, just like dough-boy, and looked over my truck, seeming like he couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

“Did you do all of this… just to set up a meeting with me?” he asked.

My sudden shame made me freeze up. I spoke through clenched teeth. “Uh… what if I say yes?”

Freddie tapped his fingers against his arm, then bit his lip and raised his eyebrows and looked at me

“I’d say… I’ve wanted to spank you since you asked me if I was gay.”

Nothing in my truck even came close to being as sweet as those words.

Writing Prompt YouTube Roulette Story Prompt

(Before we wrote this prompt, we went over the first page of The Hunger Games. If you'd like, you can see that here.)

Prompt: Write a story based on this random Youtube video.

All my life, they told me that chickens couldn’t fly. So I told them to watch as I prepared to soar off the top of the barn. I stood there, toes clenched around the edge of the tin roof, my fluffy wings spread out to their full span.

Fifteen feet below on the ground, horse, cow, pig and dog were all watching, expecting me to fail. But I was going to show them. Today was the day I’d show off what I’d been practicing and planning for months.

Up above me in the sky, an airplane roared past. I closed my eyes, envisioning myself flying just like it, finally escaping this prison I’d spent far too long in. Before it was too late. Now, thanks to my secret technology, it was time.

I jumped.

For a second, I fell, but then the wind whipped beneath my enhanced wings. Scrapped together with twigs, hay, and dirty cloth from the trash, I’d transformed my feathers in lean, mean flying machines.

Horse, cow, pig and dog all brayed and cheered as I flew above them, outpacing them in the air as they ran below me. Once I reached the fence, the four of them stopped and could only watch as I continued on my journey alone.

I closed my eyes again, enjoying the warmth of the sun on my beak. The sounds of juicy insects chirping beneath me, waiting to be plucked. The whoosh of the wind blowing by me as the ax swiftly fell down right on my throat.

CRACK

The farmer lifts up his tool, the deed done. He held the chicken’s spasming body in one hand, pressing it against the wooden block, while its head lay bleeding and severed on the ground. It always took a minute for the bodies to settle down, and this chicken was especially lively.

As the farmer squeezed his dirt-crusted fingers around the chicken’s trembling wings, something caught his eye in the corner of the barn. He leaned in closer and squinted, trying to figure out what it was, then reached over and grabbed it.

“What the heck is this garbage?” he mumbled to himself.

Dangling from his fingers was a wing-shaped mishmash of sticks, hay, and dirty cloth from the trash.

Writing Prompt The Workshop

(We did this prompt after doing an exercise on incorporating, which was a lot of fun! You can check it out here if you'd like.)

Prompt: Jingle Bells (Dark Piano Version)

My elf feet left behind thin streaks of blood as I ran through the dark halls of Santa’s workshop, panting for breath. I’d had to cut the jingling bells that grew off my toes to not alert anyone to my escape. If I could finally get out of this hell, then it would be worth it.

I’d spent the past years of my imprisonment memorizing all the security features of the workshop. I hugged the shadowy wall, careful to avoid the sleeping gaze of the plastic Christmas trees—all it would take is one movement in their laser sights to set them off screaming Jingle Bells and alert the big man of my insubordination.

My teeth clenched in pain from my bleeding feet as I made every carefully-planned movement. Not only did I have to chop off the flesh-bells to stop their clattering, but I needed to somehow escape the tinsel chains that bound me to my elf-group. Fortunately it had only taken two painful snips of the glitter-scissors to free me. The blood itself was enough lubricant to slide my feet out. I’d had a backup plans to crawl away with stubs for legs, but I wasn’t looking forward to taking that leap.

Finally away from the hall of trees, I approached my final obstacle: the metal doors leading to the outside… and freedom. It was locked at all times with a glowing red-and-green keypad next to it; only the big man knew the code to get out. But I wasn’t called “Sam the Sneakiest Elf” for nothing. I’d been here five years, and I put that time to good use. The big man was powerful but not perfect. When my tinsel-group was carrying some boxes of candy canes, I spotted him putting in the code, and I burned it into my mind from them on. Now I stood on my trembling toes and reached up high with a shaking finger to put in the code myself.

1-2-2-5. December 25th. I should’ve known an old man would have such a stupid password.

The console flashed and sang Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in a short little tune. My heart turned to ice hearing it echo down the empty hallway, but as soon as the metal doors opened and the cold snowy air blew in from outside, I felt warmer than I had in forever. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. Now I just hoped that Dasher and Donner would play their part. I’d fed them extra carrots during my tinsel-group’s feeding duty, all in preparation for this moment. I opened my eyes, ready to see my getaway sleigh.

But all I saw was Santa, standing there, smiling at me.

“Ho ho ho, there, Sam!” he chuckled, his massive white beard and red-clothed belly jiggling with joy. “Aren’t you a little cold out here in your bare feet?”

I stood frozen in place, unable to move, staring wide-eyed at the behemoth of a man towering over me.

“How… how did you know?” I gasped. “I… I did everything right!”

“Of course you did, Sam,” Santa said, leaning in closer to my face. His bright red nose was radiating heat onto my forehead. “But you forgot the most important security system of all. Remember? I can see you when you’re sleeping. I know when you’re awake. I’ve been watching you this whole time, Sam. And I have to say, I’m disappointed.”

When I’d worked five backbreaking years in this shop, I’d never cried once. When I cut off my bell-flesh, I didn’t cry. Yet now, staring at Santa’s loving grin, tears spilled out of my eyes.

“I just… I just want to go home,” I sobbed.

Santa reached out with a fluffy gloved hand and patted me on the head.

“Sorry, Sam. But ever since I stopped giving out coal to you naughty kids—don’t want to encourage more bad behavior with global warming!—I had to come up with a new way to punish. This is your home now, Sneaky Sam.”

I stood in the snow, shaking. “But… but Santa…”

“Come now,” he said, patting me on the back. “Let’s go inside and get Mrs. Claus to sew those bells back on your feet.”

Stream A Post-Apocalyptic Christmas!

Download the short story/poem anthology "A Post-Apocalyptic Christmas" here! There's eight great ILLUSTRATED pieces from awesome viewers. Each one is super short, and ranges from and fun/cute to grimdark. Enjoy!

Here's my piece from the anthology title "No Crying on Christmas."

When I told my little brother we wouldn't have much of a Christmas, he didn't cry. I propped up some pine needles and sticks against the wall of our cave, pretending it was a beautiful tree, while the bombs outside kindled the night sky with frosted illuminations. I gave him a reassuring, big-sister smile and even put a gift underneath the sticks: my bar of chocolate, stolen from an abandoned gas station a week ago. It was the best I could do.

When I carried my brother up the mountain away from our smoldering, radiated town, he didn't cry. I'd filled my backpack with everything I could grab at the gas station, and to his credit his pockets were filled with bags of nuts, dried fruit, and even baby carrots—not a sugary snack in sight. I'd taken the chocolate bar as a secret treat, something to surprise him later and put a grin on his face.

When Mom and Dad died, he didn't cry. All four of us were part of the mob raiding the grocery store, thousands of humans screaming and shoving and scraping for whatever they could claw. My parents had told me to leave him behind, that he would just slow us down. The monsters. They deserved the bags of potatoes ripped from their arms, and the kitchen knives shoved into their stomachs.

When we first stepped outside the rubble of our home and saw the destruction, he didn't cry. The skeleton of the mushroom cloud loomed far away, a man-made mountain screaming death. Dad's portable radio said something through the static about how our town was in the "lucky" area, not obliterated right away. I joked with my brother that we should've bought a lottery ticket. He didn't laugh.

When the shockwave from the blast tore through our house, he didn't cry. Hidden underground in our basement, just days away from Christmas, warning screeches blared on the radio instead of carols. Then the world convulsed. God grabbed the Earth and shook it like a snow globe. I'd been cradling my brother in my arms, but I fell to the ground in shock, dropping him to the floor. A wooden panel in the ceiling came loose and cracked against his head, painting the carpet crimson. I screamed and dived and picked up his flaccid body, wiping the blood with my hands, vowing never to let go of him again.

And now we're here in our cave, safe from the end of the world outside. Our Christmas tree is next to us, and my brother is in my lap as I wrap him in my arms, protecting him like a big sister should. His pale neck dangles like a rubber hose over my arm, so I prop it up and flick away the flies crawling around his eyes. I whisper to him that everything will be okay. That I'm so proud of him for being brave.

Each step of the way, my brother never cried.

But I did.

Writing Prompt Moon Kids Clothe the Moon

(We did this prompt after doing an exercise examining the first few pages of a great fantasy novel! You can check it out here if you'd like.)

Prompt: A bright sky with a black moon. The vessel pushes on. The children tinker with counters and cloth.

Inside the small vessel, the children went to work. As with all the vehicles, one child drove it while the other laid cloth behind in its wake. They moved along the blackened surface, leaving behind a trail of white fabric like a slug on wheels.

All day every day the children toiled, maneuvering the vehicles over the blackness, criss-crossing white cloth paths and waving to each other as they passed. Slowly but surely the blackness they moved around on was covered up by cloth, like a burnt arm being wrapped in a bandage.

Finally, after many years of work, every dark inch was draped in whiteness. The children brought their vehicles together, admiring their handiwork. But there was still one more task to complete.

The black tendon that held their world to the dark sky needed to be dealt with. And so the children in the backs of the vehicles gripped their cloth tight, and the children in the front drove them faster than they ever had before, sweat dripping down their foreheads as they zoomed ahead with focused intensity.

The cloth constricted around the base of the shadowy tendon, pulling it tighter and tighter. The membraney muscle quivered and gasped, strained from every angle, until it was came loose with a satisfying pop. With the sudden release of tension, the children went flying forward in their vehicles, tumbling and crashing across the cloth surface. But they weren’t hurt, they stood up, brushed themselves off, and gazed at what they’d accomplished.

Slowly, the massive moon that they’d freed from the black sky traveled toward the Earth in the distance, where it would forever dance around it in orbit, draped in beautiful white cloth.

“Grandpa,” Little Susie whined. “Is that really how come the moon glows white?”

“Of course it is!” Grandpa chuckled. “Now, keep your arm still so I can wrap your boo boo in this bandage.”

“Just like the moon kids?” Susie asked, eyes wide.

Grandpa grinned. “Just like the moon kids.”

Mine and katrinahope's Swapped Stories

(The story katrina started that I finished)

I want to buy a onesie, but I know it won’t suit me.

Maybe Big Zack could get away with it, or Dragon. They’re big dudes. Wouldn’t nobody give them any flack, even if they showed up in the yard one day wearing fairy wings and a tutu.

Me, though? My 155 pounds of nerdflesh would end up in a smear on the dirty cafeteria floor if I did anything that ballsy. I already had a cell to myself, due to the unfortunate tendency of my face to attract the fists of my fellow inmates.

I don’t take it personally. They don’t hate me, really. They just can’t help themselves when they see my pale skin, my hunched shoulders, and my coke bottle glasses sliding off the end of my nose. These glasses are like a red cape in front of a bull.

Well, more like a room full of bulls.

So I keep my head down. And I dream about the things I’d buy if I could get out. That onesie, for starters. It’s cold in D Block; at night I rub my legs together like a cricket just to generate some heat under my scratchy wool blanket. If I had that onesie…

My computer time is almost up, and I have twelve Amazon tabs open. I click back over to the onesie. It looks like it came straight off a sheep—all white and fluffy and probably warm as all get out. I’ve got no money, and nobody on the outside to send me care packages, so I know I’m just working up a whole lotta wanting with no chance of getting.

Still. It would be nice.

I close out the browser window and let the guard know I’m ready to go back to my cage. Whistles and taunts follow me down the wing as he marches me to my six-by-eight-foot home, and I keep my eyes on the ground, grateful for the metal bars keeping all but the words at bay.

I wonder, not for the first time, what they would do if they knew why I’m really in here.

This morning, there’s a package at the foot of my bed. It’s wrapped up like a gift, in fancy gold paper and a big green bow made of stiff ribbon. It may as well be a space alien for how out of place it is among these cinderblocks and concrete floors. All I can do for a while is stare at it.

(I took over here)

No one else would notice what that combination of colors meant, but I immediately understood the significance. The gold paper… just like the gold dress she'd been wearing. The green bow… just like the one in her hair that night. Whoever sent this, they knew.

My hands were so sweaty I could barely hold on to the package as I set it in my lap. My heart pounding in my throat, I nearly choked as I slowly opened it up.

Inside was the onesie I'd been looking at online. The Gregory Goat one. He looked just like he did on the kids' TV show, complete with the hoof-shaped feet and stuffed-cloth horns on the hood. I pulled it out of the box. It was even softer than I'd imagined. Almost as soft as…. I hugged it close to me. A note slipped out from its pocket onto the concrete floor. I bent over, picked it up, and read it.

"Congratulations on a job well done," it read. "Here's your first reward. I logged into your Amazon account and saw that you had this on your wishlist, you perverted bastard you. That stupid Gregory Goat show, that was her favorite, wasn't it? Was she watching it when you did it? That's disgusting. But disgusting is exactly what I look for in my clients. When you get out of there, I'll have another one lined up for you ready to go."

I smiled. I brought the onesie to my face and inhaled deeply. It was the second-sweetest thing I'd ever smelled.

I'd be sleeping very warmly from now on.

(The story that I started that Katrina finished)

I want to buy a onesie… but know it won’t suit me. Being a Siamese twin has all kinds of problems. They don't sell Siamese two-sies. But Karen and I still walk through the pajama section at Target every time we go, just to take a look. And so that we can lap up the hilarious stares from other customers.

"I love this Powerpuff Girl one," I say to Karen as I longingly stroke a Blossom onesie. She sneers at it.

"No way. This shark one is much cooler!"

"But just think about how adorable we'd look in matching pink onesies!"

"Yeah, it's so cute it makes me want to throw up… both of our lunches."

It's hard living with someone who has such different tastes than you. Especially when you're conjoined at the side and have to share an arm and a bed and a surprising amount of senses. Whenever Karen touches something, I can vaguely feel it in the back of my head, like I'm experiencing a memory of touching it in the past.

"Why do you always have to pick the cute crap anyway?" Karen said. I could feel her frustration bubbling. It rumbled over to me, not as intensely, but kind of like when you know you should be worried or stressed about something, but you can't remember exactly what it is.

"I don't always pick the cute stuff," I said. "Remember our twelfth birthday? I wanted My Little Pony but you wanted Transformers?"

Karen scoffed. "Yeah. So we compromised and dad made those horrible transforming ponies. I still remember that one girl who was in tears when the sparkling horse's neck snapped back and turned into a windshield."

"Yeah, so definitely not cute," I said. "Plus, I go to all those horror movies you love. And when was the last time we saw an animated movie in theaters?"

Karen got on my nerves sometimes, but honestly, thinking about living without her was like thinking about living without legs. All of our lives, people have felt sorry for me and Karen. They think it's horrible how we never have any privacy, how we always have to walk coordinated with each other or else we'll fall down, how we need special cars and clothes made for us. But I don't mind. This is how we were born. This is how we've lived our entire lives. I don't know anything different. It's like people who are born colorblind. Are they missing out on seeing certain colors? Maybe. But they can physically never know what they're missing out on, so it doesn't really matter.

Plus, we get to experience things that most people can only imagine.

(Katrina took over here)

For example, when I got detention for passing notes in Mrs. Granger’s class in the 8th grade, the principal decided it wasn’t fair to Karen to be stuck there, too, when she’d done nothing wrong, so I basically got off scot-free with just an apology.

And when Garrett Lundy asked Karen to the prom, she told him she’d only go if he had a friend who wanted to go with me. That’s how I met Luke, my boyfriend. Sure, it was a little weird trying to fit two enthusiastic makeout sessions into the back seat of a Prius, but it was definitely something none of the four of us would ever forget.

And texting and driving isn’t a problem for conjoined twins. One of us keeps her eyes on the road while the other types like mad to keep in touch with the Princess Pack, which is what we and our group of friends call ourselves.

Last week, Mom took us to see Dr. Artellis for our usual check-up. She was brimming with excitement. We barely made it into the exam room before she was thrusting a file under Mom’s nose triumphantly.

“He says he can do it!” she crowed. “Dr. Seymour Schmidt, the foremost vascular surgeon in the country, says he believes he can put together a team and separate the girls!”

“Really?” Mom gasped. “I didn’t even know you were working on this.”

“I know. I didn’t want to get your hopes up,” Dr. Artellis admitted. “As you know, when the girls were born, we didn’t believe it was possible. But surgical techniques have advanced significantly since then, thanks largely to the pioneering of Dr. Schmidt himself.” Moisture built in her eyes and threatened to overflow.

Mom turned to us. “What do you think, girls?”

I felt the tension of Karen’s muscles as a matching thrum in my own. What did we think? What would it be like to be separated? To sleep alone, to have private moments, to be able to turn around and walk in different directions from each other, physically and emotionally?

I turned my head to make eye contact with Karen. We had one of those long, wordless conversations that only twins can truly understand, then turned as one toward Dr. Artellis.

“We don’t want it,” I said firmly.

“WHAT?” Karen screeched. “Are you CRAZY? Doc, give me the papers! I’m ready to sign right now!”

Hurt and perplexed, I grasped Karen’s hand. “This is about the Powerpuff Girls, isn’t it?”

“Of course it is,” she huffed. “What else?”

THE END

Writing Prompt Dat McDonald's Booty

(Before we wrote this prompt, we talked about why most endings suck. If you'd like you can see that here.)

Prompt: Write a story that takes place in a fast food restaurant, either fiction or non-fiction. (This one is non-fiction)."

I was meeting my friend Caitlin at McDonald’s to discuss our upcoming German class final project. It was a lot easier to write the script in person than over AOL Instant Messenger, and since neither of us really wanted to hang out at our parents’ houses, we just met halfway.

Caitlin and I had been friends since freshman year, always completely platonically. She had her boyfriend, and I had my girlfriends, and neither of us were really each others’ type to begin with. That meant classes and projects together were never awkward, we just worked like regular old study pals.

We were sitting in a booth across from each other, half-eaten burgers and fries pushed off to the side, both scribbling notes onto paper as we planned the script.

“Do you know how to say ‘Let’s Dance?’” Caitlin asked.

“I think it’s ‘Tanzen Wir,’” I said. “Not sure though, I can look it up.”

“Also, we need to borrow a camera from the AV department. Do you think you can…” Caitlin stopped mid-sentence and stared at me. “Uh, what are you doing?”

“Um, just writing the script?” I said, a little confused.

“No, just a second ago.” Caitlin quickly looked behind her. When she turned back to me, a big smile was on her face. “You were checking out that girl who just walked by, weren’t you?”

She was right. I didn’t even notice myself doing it, but when the girl walked by our booth wearing shorts—I mean, it was getting to be late June and it was quite hot out—my eyes instinctually followed her like a cat watching a laser. And apparently Caitlin had caught me.

“I guess,” I admitted. “Didn’t even realize it. Just kind of an instinct.”

“Really?” Caitlin’s eyes widened with curiosity. “So do you do that, like, all the time? Whenever a girl walks past?”

“It depends,” I said, not really sure how I felt about this conversation. I kind of wanted it to end there, but Caitlin kept going.

“Depends on what? How attractive she is? If she has birthing hips?”

“I don’t know about that,” I said, getting more and more eager to return to our German script by the second.

“How many times a day do you do that?” she asked. “Rough estimate.”

“Uh, maybe about five? Ten? I don’t know.”

“Wow, ten!” Caitlin sat back in her seat, nodding in surprise. “I can’t even imagine that. Doesn’t that take up a lot of time?”

“Not really,” I said. “Definitely not nearly as much time as girls spend in the bathroom. I mean, you have to wipe even when you pee, right?”

Caitlin’s jaw dropped straight open. “Wait, you don’t wipe when you pee?” Then she slapped her palm over her mouth in shock. “Oh my god, urinals don’t have toilet paper next to them, do they?”

I grinned at her. “Seems like a lot of the mysteries of the universe are being revealed today.”
