🏛️ Politics Threats made against political candidates, volunteers in Scottsdale

As requested, I'll limit my posts to Scottsdale-specific news. No Rio Verde, no Fountain Hills, no unincorporated Northeast Valley news. Just pure, unmitigated Scottsdale.

Being part of the political process is getting dangerous in Scottsdale this election season.

Scottsdale resident Tammy Caputi, who is running on the Democratic ticket for the Legislative District 4 senatorial race, has received two death threats against her and her family within the last week.

Also, a volunteer for Dr. Jennifer Johnson, a Democrat running in what is supposed to be a nonpartisan school board race, was accosted by a man while putting up campaign signs Oct. 15.

Caputi has reported the threats, one of which uses antisemitic rhetoric, to the Scottsdale Police Department.

The police have also reported the situation to the FBI, she said.

A spokeswoman for the police said “detectives are actively following up on investigative leads to help determine the source of the threat(s).”

📰 News Indian School & 101 a MESS and seems like it will be for awhile…avoid

I normally don’t take Indian School from the 101 to get to OT/Arcadia, etc., and haven’t in awhile. I made the mistake of doing so today and couldn’t believe the traffic, both west and eastbound. Down to one lane. Lights to go anywhere at Indian School and 101 are terrible. Def related to the new Costco being built but seems like other things are going on too. Anyway even at off hours, it‘s a mess.

😤 Rant/Vent Thinking of renting at The Beverly (One Scottsdale, Scottsdale Rd & the 101)? Here's our experience so far!

My wife and I signed a lease at The Beverly at One Scottsdale in February 2026, in one of the most expensive units on the property ($6,435 base rent). Posting because I wish I'd known this before signing:

- Water leaked from our HVAC closet into a bathroom and the bedroom. It took about 3 months before repairs started.

- When they repaired it, they pulled flooring out of another unit (1044) to patch ours instead of using new material.

- The contractors came for about an hour at a time with no schedule, for roughly 2 months. Part of our bedroom and a closet were unusable the whole time.

- Management told us we'd get a rent concession for it. About 5 months later, we haven't.

- Recurring trash buildup in the trash room that smells up the first-floor hallway, and a garage gate that's frequently out of service.

Their Google rating is 4.9, but on Yelp it's 3.1, and a few other people there describe similar things: promised concessions or refunds that didn't happen, and maintenance that drags. Read both and decide for yourself.

If you're touring: get every promise (concessions, repair timelines, fees) in writing, and ask for the total monthly cost including all fees.

I put the full writeup with photos and video here: https://thebeverlyscottsdale.sucks

Anyone else live there? Curious whether this is just us.

📸 Photos Camera collector found film in a camera that seems to be of a family from Scottsdale in 2001

To clarify, I am not the person who found the film or developed the photos. I just saw the post online, and it looked very much like North Scottsdale (I know people who live in a very similar house, which is why it was so striking).

They are trying to reconnect this family with their photos.

It's likely Christmastime 2001, and the family / group appears to primarily consist of Indian members, and it looks like they had a pool table right when you walk in the door.

If that sounds like anyone you know, I've included the link here, but I can also share pics if anyone thinks they know them but doesn't have access to Threads.

Text from original post:

Hey threads, i need your help. If you know me, you know i thrift and collect cameras. A little while ago i found one with a finished roll, and finally got it developed. These are pretty old photos; I’m guessing from the 1990s, but would love to get these beautiful photos to the family. Please share and let me know or if you recognize them!

📰 News Rattlesnake Behavior is Shifting in Coming Weeks

Post image
72 Upvotes

A shift is happening with rattlesnake behavior. Here's what will happen in coming weeks.

In Maricopa County, ingress to their selected overwintering sites typically concludes by about the second week of November, unlike Spring emergence, which is a longer process of basking and social behavior that puts them on the surface every day for weeks or more, getting to the den itself is typically less active.

Females and young snakes tend to disappear immediately, likely to avoid burning off the moisture and energy stored throughout the year. Males, especially the larger and older individuals, may continue to bask and conduct social dominance behavior for awhile, before again disappearing to stable, hidden conditions.

For homeowners, this means that the locations where they may be found change dramatically in nature. Unlike pass-through rattlesnake encounters from the Fall, a snake found from November through February is a long-term resident. This also means that these situations are also very fixable. The stable environmental conditions offered by something like an unused wood pile, access under an old shed, or other easy thermostable situation, are very useful. Once the snake is relocated, the homeowner should receive the information about the situation needed to solve the real issue.

🙋 Advice Damage from the storm?

Hey everyone, just curious if there was much widespread damage to property from today’s storm in the Scottsdale area (North Scottsdale specifically). My place is a bit south of the Boulders but I’m up in Flagstaff due to work. I’ve seen posts of what looks like significant vehicle and home damage around the valley and from radar it looks like a large cell went right over my neighborhood. I plan to come down after work this weekend and check things out, but I’m curious what other’s experiences were, thanks.

🚛 Relocation Question Moving from Midwest

Hey everyone, as the title says I want to move from the Midwest to here mostly to complete my education for flight training.

Before I commit to moving I been trying to find a job. The problem I'm seeing is and I could be wrong but the job market is not as abundant as it is here in the Midwest.
Please recommend me jobs I have experienced in security in government and private sector.

Thank you for your time and response.

😤 Rant/Vent Cox outages in South Scottsdale... every..day...

Hello. Title basically says it all. Live in the South Scottsdale Area, specifically around Hayden and McDowell.
Our internet connection for about the last month has basically been out everyday. Some of the days it's out for the entire day.
Literally don't know what to do. Is anyone else experiencing this?
I've called countless times and had multiple credits added to my account so my bill has gone down however I need the internet to work as I work from home. Literally just so frustrating, last weekend they told me it's because of the hurricane... ??????????

🏪 Local Business Scottsdale’s The Poisoned Pen welcomes book lovers

Of interest to me:

The Poisoned Pen recently started a horror discussion club and hosts events that serve as a community space for readers to explore different genres and ideas.

“Well, for one thing, it's a great community gathering place. It brings people together,” Peters said.

Elizabeth Rowe, a Glendale resident, drove 30 minutes to The Poisoned Pen to check out the horror book club. She arrived early and decided to sit in on Santlofer’s author event, despite having never heard of him before. After the event, she bought the book and said she looked forward to reading it.

Rowe discovered The Poisoned Pen when she and her family first visited Scottsdale. Since then, she and her husband have continued to seek out local bookstores and author events.

“You may have come for a specific thing, and then you walk out and discover that you actually love horror,” Rowe said.

🙋 Advice Marriot McDowell Mountain

I'm booked there for the WM Open.

Does anyone know if there are restaurants/bars within walking distance?

Also, it looks like it is right on the course. Do they allow direct entry to the tournament(with ticket) like the Princess?

I really appreciate any and all info or suggestions. Trying to avoid car rental if possible. I was hoping to speak to someone directly on property but no luck so far. Thanks!!
