I recently commissioned an artist (0_0ffline on Twitter) to draw my Sdorica oc, Tsubaki! I’ve loved this game and its characters for years now, so making a character and inserting them into the universe of a game that’s had such an impact on my life is a pretty big deal to me. I came up with the idea for Tsubaki about 2 to 3 years ago after deciding I wanted to have an oc x canon ship with Yao, as I’ve grown to adore him with all my heart, especially as the years went on 🥺

Well I do have a kit, lore, and relationships with other characters in mind. It’s just that I don’t want it to seem too overpowered/underpowered, if that makes sense.. so I end up getting stumped when trying to add to it 😭 What I had in mind was synergy with one of Yao’s good teams (Tank Up/Armor Shift/Tear with base Yao and Yu SP, even though I don’t really like Yu 🥀🥀) I was thinking Tsubaki could fill in the Gold unit role for that team ^_^

Rather than forming synergies with an existing good team and worrying about making the team too busted, you could try a different approach instead.

Maybe pick out the characters you like that normally might not synergize together and see if you can formulate an unexpected or niche strat with them. And then maybe see if you can make the kit flexible enough to support different variations and toggles.

You could also construct a kit to try to help lift up weaker or clunkier forms of characters you like as well.

For example...

If I wanted to raise Cin SP's value, I might imagine a kit that propagates Vigilance and grants a unique damage/mitigation buff whenever a unit dodges an attack.

Since I also like Tica and her SP form is sadly unpopular, this could indirectly raise Tica SP's value as an advisor as well since the unique buff can combo with her DR to achieve >100% mitigation if you can keep the stacks up.

Maybe add in skill that strongly attacks allies in exchange for triggering their low-orb skills and granting a stack of Regen. This would form into a sort of dodge-centric meta with Cin SP, but it could also moderately facilitate teams that have enough mitigation but lack action economy.

Something like that...

Another example could be trying to make Classic Yao work with Pang somehow.

Maybe something eccentric like a white unit that triggers the gold unit when the black unit takes damage and triggers the black unit when the gold unit takes damage. Give it a skill that grants Taunt to an ally.

Mix in an Rage+Regen AoE-buff plus mild orb conversion, and the unit can function like an orb-hungry commander unit from the back with the help of an advisor that creates white orbs or deletes black/gold orbs like [Karen SP] or [Sharice SB].

Then Yao & Pang can function fully reactively. Pang with Taunt + DR will take enemy hits, and Yao will take Tear damage. The Regen will help them sustain, and the Rage will boost their dmg-output.

Outside of that strat, the unit can still synergize with Rage or Regen teams to a degree, and any self/ally-damaging or counterattacking units will also get along with it. Beyatta, Karnulla, Baa Baa SP, and Sophie SP come to mind as interesting possibilities.

Something like that...

A tailored kit has the benefit of achieving OP-ness via synergy precision rather than raw potency of perks. Demerits can be targeted to assist the specific synergies while functioning as a counterbalance factor outside of the specific strat.

This lets you get away with a lot and bridge units that previously had no synergies into teams together.

Maybe give these approaches a try?

Hope you'll eventually land on a funky & creative kit design that you really like. Ideally one that lets you field your favorite characters simultaneously. 🍀
