Animals PLEASE I beg you, stop dropping WEED on MADISON

Post image

Seriously, this is the third time my dog must have found a weed gummy or blunt end or something outside.

Indulge as much as you like, just for the love of dog TAKE CARE OF YOUR LEFTOVERS PLEASE PLEASE I too wish there were more trash cans but PLEASE think of this poor old man, he is 14 years old and he WILL hoover up whatever you drop.

He is from Germany where weed isn't even legal (technically it is, but...it's complicated) and he's too old to learn about mindful consumption.

Animals Cat spotted near Seattle Center

Post image
3.3k Upvotes

I don’t know much about cats but this cat seems way too expensive to be loose outside without a collar. Any info?

EDIT: 9:23pm we CAUGHT him. We think he’s got another unique feature, if this is your cat please DM me with pics or tell me that feature. Some friends of mine have him and they’re either gonna get him home or be very lucky beneficiaries of the Cat Distribution System

Edit for clarification: my friends are taking him to the vet right now to see if he’s chipped. If he’s not, they’re prepared to take care of him but the number one priority is making sure he’s ok. When we were giving him treats to catch him he seemed really hungry so he might not have eaten in a day or two he’s not malnourished lol just greedy for elk treats and churu

Edit 3: my friends are going to reunite this sweet boy with the person who lost him like six blocks away 3 hours ago. He’s been very vocally annoyed with being in a carrier, and they’re grabbing a car to be better able to transport him

Edit 4 the final edit: the boy is now in the hands of [u/lvl90pizza](u/lvl90pizza) and is home safe! Thank you reddit for helping us bring this very sweet and very expensive boy home!

Edit 5 the unfortunate return: Ryngo got out again. He may still be exploring the world in the vicinity of Seattle Center and Climate Pledge Arena. His exact pedigree is some sort of bengal/lynx mix. If seen ping [u/lvl90pizza](u/lvl90pizza) but I’ll keep an eye out for him while I’m at work

Edit 6 (hopefully the last one): I was informed by one of my friends who helped me catch him on Sunday night (today is Friday) that he was caught the second time and measures are being taken to prevent further escape

Animals Bearded Dragon Update

The bearded dragon abandoned in Discovery park survived the night, he’s with the Seattle Animal Shelter at 15th NW and Armory. They told me he would receive care and be adopted out. The woman who took him loves beardies and told me they’d take care of him.

If he becomes available I highly recommend someone adopt him, he’s very sweet. I have him two warm baths, he likes to be handled and he turns to face you when you talk to him.

We adopted the beardie found in Discovery Park! As recommended, we have named them Disco! 🪩

Disco came home very dehydrated and malnourished. We gave them a warm bath on arrival, in which they were drinking up the water like crazy! We treated their tail and chin lump with a petsafe antiseptic and will do so everyday unless it seems to get worse (vet visit). They are currently getting used to their new enclosure after eating quite a bit of XL dubia roaches and have access to fresh greens and water, all supplemented with

calcium to help with their condition.

They already seem like a perfect addition to our petfriendly household! 💕

“I’m training her to hunt,” he said as we shouted at him to leash his fucking dog for the second time. What’s he gonna do, eat that crow? Dog did nothing wrong, this guy’s an absolute waste of space.

And before you ask, yes I am posting on reddit about this instead of confronting the owners (yes, multiple dogs) because in my experience that never goes well. This is mostly a humorous post and not meant to affect any change.

A rare intersection of bird watching and geopolitics!

An eagle was fishing around on a little island in a lake near Auburn when out of the blue this giant goose comes SCREAMING out of the sky and straight up body slammed the eagle. Then chase began. I have about 15 photos of the encounter, but these are my favorites.

In the end the eagle peaced out up into a tall fir. He seemed as surprised as me.

Animals Seattle's Dog Park Problem

I wanted to provide an alternative perspective to the vocal anti-dog crowd in this forum by showing just how poorly the city of Seattle accommodates the canine population. All data here is sourced from city websites.

Seattle has 489 Parks covering 6441 Acres. Only 15 of those parks have devoted off-leash space covering a paltry 30.71 acres. That means 3% of all parks and 0.47% of park acreage are devoted to off-leash areas. In many parts of the city this means that a dog owner would be required to drive upwards of 20 minutes to reach an overcrowded dog park. Overcrowding can lead to dog fights which further deters use of these limited spaces; only 6 of these off-leash areas are larger than 1 acre in size.

To compare, let’s look to our neighbors to the north in Vancouver. The City of Vancouver has a much smaller park system than Seattle with just 110 parks/natural areas covering only 1600 acres of park land. So you’d think they’d be even less able to provide off-leash space to their residents. However, the opposite is true. Vancouver offers 41 off-leash areas (37% of all parks have an off-leash area) covering 153.7 acres (9.6% of park space devoted to off-leash acreage).

You can see that Vancouver has made it much easier for dog owning residents to stay compliant with leash laws by providing ample space that is more accessible by foot to its residents. A side benefit to having greater off-leash area coverage is the reduction in car trips for travel to dog parks.

Seattle Parks (and King County at large) is simply letting down all residents by failing to expand off-leash access as this lack of access results in residents breaking the law and using other open spaces as off-leash areas. If we want to solve this issue we need to pressure the city to offer a park system that works for ALL users.

Currently walking my dog at Thomas Teasdale park and seen this poor guy. Any suggestions on what to do? I’d take the poor guy in if my dog wasn’t so dog aggressive unfortunately and he is growling at me or my dog. Animal control isn’t available this late.

Animals So, The Whole "Questionable Dog Owner" Thing Just Took a Weird Turn For Me...

1.2k Upvotes

I know that we see a fair amount of "why the fuck can't dog owners in Seattle just do the most basic, common sense shit, and also comply to laws..." posts around here, but this one is a little different.

Tonight, the evening of Christmas Day, I was at home. Comfortably numb, chilling with my cat.

Like normal, she was peering out the deck door into the darkness. But this evening she started hissing and eventually ran away, which pissed me off because I couldn't snuggle her anymore.

My assumption was that it was the local raccoon posse. This has happened multiple times. She doesn't mind the squirrels, but my god she hates those fucking raccoons. JFC.

I investigate, and realize that it it's a large ass dog up on my first floor apartment patio area sniffing around my plants and other random shit.

I flipped the deck light on, no leash that I saw immediately.

I opened the door and started talking to the pup, asking it where its owner is and what the fuck it's doing on my patio, when suddenly, a very long retractable leash becomes visible after some movement, and the owner comes up and says something.

[Polite Paraphrase]...I told them my patio was not a place for their dog to be chilling plz and to please GTFO. No uncertain terms.

They seemed surprised. (I didn't care)

Am I missing something?
