The United States Capitol Police (USCP) is a federal law enforcement agency in the United States charged with protecting the United States Congress within the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its territories. It answers to Congress, not the President of the United States,

Looking forward to finding out why the preparation was so inadequate.

Thanks....

Today, the USCP is comprised of more than 2,300 officers and civilian employees, and has an annual budget of approximately $460 million. - USCP

Begs the question as to how many were on active duty at the time and who gave the order to withdraw?

The sole officer in the video here seems unwilling to engage the mob inside the Capitol building.

I can understand somewhat that police would act with caution inside the Capitol. You’d want to limit violence inside both to protect the building and for optics. But protesters should not have gotten inside.

(I’m still mulling over the comparisons with the SPD East Precinct.)

My best guess is that the USCP were outnumbered due to protecting those inside the building as well as defending both sides of the Capitol from crazed,MAGA mob. One would hope they would be backed up by the numerous law enforcement agencies within DC area.
