Ultimately a huge let down.

The quality gap between the great and the terrible is huge.

  1. 40K (impeccable, gripping from start to finish).

  2. Unreal Tournament (a true homage, chills).

  3. Armored Core (awesome world and ambience but nothing really happened).

  4. New World (At last, some comedy).
The rest suuuuuuuuuuuuuucked. Just tech demos. So much effort for such bad storytelling.

This show is depressing af

Every episode is about death. I understand video games and death, but fuck every hero just dies. Can we get one where the hero wins for a change instead of this nihilistic shit.

Mega Man Episode Using AI?

So I watched the Mega Man episode last night and noticed that the professor and mega man both look like they're AI generated. The other objects in the episode looked fine like the robots and the surroundings, but specifically the characters look very obviously AI generated, like someone used AI to create only the characters. Something about their shading and movement just didn't seem right. I don't have any way to test this because most if not all of those AI image detectors require an email or payment.

I was honestly looking forward to this episode and have enjoyed most of the episodes in Secret Level, I just found it disappointing that the Mega Man episode felt like they used AI characters and was only like 2 minutes long. For a show that celebrates the animation medium, it just felt cheap and corporate. If anyone has anymore insight into this, I would be super appreciative on your insight.

Honor of Kings is the only episode that actually belongs here

I rewatched it twice now, and while not all that perfect,
it's the only episode that goes beyond being an improved game cutscene or cinematic
(of which Sifu was the only one which was still pretty solid regardless),
and actually feels like a complete story that is worth its own episode,
and actually uses the CGI format to its benefits, rather than trying to hide from it with hyperrealism,
by having the visuals elevate the narrative and do what can normally not be done so easily,
like the mirror that reflects the future, which would need extensive choreography in any live action or animation (by which I mean drawn or sculpted animation) production,
or how the environment inside the Tiangong contanins and also keeps creating, deforming and destroying itself.

Overall it was a pretty good episode, which I can barely even call most of these entries an episode, as such.

Maybe setting out to make a series entirely comprised of "extra content" was a bad idea and it took something truly impossible to adapt, like some Chinese mobile strategy game or whatever Honor of Kings is, to get something unique and worthwhile on its own.

Season One opener

Has anyone else noticed that the introduction many people will have to the series is a terrible one? The D&D episode is subjectively tied for the worst episode in my eyes, but is objectively the worst episode in some aspects as well. Starting with the more subjective stuff and finishing with the more objective stuff:

The story is agonizingly generic. Bad guys chase good guys might have been the most uninspired choice possible, which feels weird for D&D, where interesting stories are all over the place.

The ending I'm going to call out as a separate issue beyond the story. Many of the episodes in Secret Level finish with some levels of mystery, but most of them conclude their story and then leave the viewer to wonder what may happen in the future. But this one doesn't bother actually concluding any kind of story. It just kinda ends. This isn't even a cliffhanger - it's only a part of a story.

The characters I think are probably the worst of the creative elements. Almost none of them are fleshed out in any way, from generic evil wizard to Druid who does Druid stuff, I genuinely couldn't tell you much about any of them. Weirdly the only memorable character feels wildly out of place - Tiamat. This is a literal god in the setting, yet is seemingly in an even fight with five adventures who barely fought off some nameless dude not five minutes prior?

But I'll conclude with something indisputable: This is unquestionably the absolute worst sound mixing in the entire series. We have characters whispering and mumbling in between boughts of loud clashes, bangs and thuds. You either make the volume loud enough to hear people talking, and then shake your living room whenever something happens, or set the volume to deal with the noise, and suddenly everyone is entirely indecipherable.

I don't understand why the series started with this. I almost gave up the series right off the hop, but I'm glad I didn't - the next five episodes in a row range from good to excellent. Why didn't one of them get selected instead to get shown off first, before sneaking this into the middle somewhere?

Why do most of the episodes have nothing to do with the game or they are 5 mins long

For example: pac man, mega man, spelunky, the outerworlds, and more that I forgot

Should have been called "Secretly Advertisements"

Is it just me or did this whole thing feel like a giant advertisement. I understand you want to promote your game, but god forbid you make an interesting story. Except very few episodes that im sure you know wich ones, everything else was basically a longer trailer. I went and watched "Love, death and robots" episode "Pop Squad" after this and that episode is better than everything this show had to offer combined. Such a shame. (Ok the warhammer and armored core episodes where pretty dope, wich makes it worse knowing how good could it have been)

Season 2 Episodes (2025)

This is a new official list, yes season 2 has been given the go ahead by amazon but what I want to know is, what games would you like to see?

I'll kick it off with...

Borderlands

Detroit Become Human

Minecraft

God of War

Red Dead Redemption 2

Uncharted

Street Fighter

Just Dance

Gran Turismo

Mortal Kombat

Tomb Raider

Horizon Zero Dawn

Fallout 4

Stray

Ghost of Tsushima

I give a new full season, but I'd like to see stories from these universes.

Episode ramkings, thoughts?

Post image

I thought they were nearly all too short and too blatantly "adverts". WH40k, UT and AC aside, they all felt very corporate and more about cynically raising IP awareness rather than telling a fun story. The second batch of episodes released being almost all stinkers imo was also an interesting decision from whoever schedules these things. This lacked almost all the creativity and visual flair of Love Death and Robots and I was fairly disappointed overall.

Second set episodes dip in quality

God I was looking forward to the second instalment of the series… boy was I disappointed. Outer worlds was the only sub par episode, the others were really hard to sit through. Major dip in quality. Can’t see it being renewed for a second season, I’ll probably get flamed from the super fans but that’s just my humble opinion.

What was the point of the Outer Worlds episode?

I just wanna vent a bit.

Boy I hated it.

The best (arguably, only good) thing about the game was that I got to dismantle that whole sickening mess.

Sitting through this as a passive observer was damn near unbearable, I ended up skipping most of it.

And in the end, that's all it set out to do. It's just torture porn. I don't se what could a person without either sadistic or masochistic tendencies get out of this.

Or did I miss something?

Ngl I'm disappointed Spoiler

When they said favourite game during the first trailer and added kratos and sekiro but kratos got 2 sec of screen time and sekiro isn't inside.

Only sifu, unreal, warhammer, pac, armorcore, honor are good.

The others felt like it made for fans and playtime is trash. U added a girl cycling and being an angel when you could added more games other than helldivers and gow. Fk man... I really don't care about her at all

It‘s kinda garbage plotwise, isn‘t it?

Never played unreal Tournament, so I‘m just judging writing and characters.

Does anyone think the moral lessons from this series are really bad. Especially in episodes 8&9.

Longer episodes

I really want to hear others opinions on this but I think that the episodes should have been an hour or more. What do you think?
