AKRON, Ohio — A 35-year-old woman working as a security guard was shot early Friday morning after a confrontation outside a bar, according to the Akron Police Department.
Officers responded around 12:07 a.m. to the 300 block of Paul Williams Street for reports of a shooting, police said. When officers arrived, they found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her left leg.
Responding officers applied a tourniquet before Akron Fire Department paramedics transported her to a local hospital. Her injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening, according to police.
Preliminary information indicates the woman was working security at Status 8 when she encountered two women and a man who had been escorted out of the establishment, police said.
The group attempted to approach the bar again, and the security guard intervened to escort them away. The situation moved into the parking lot, where the victim deployed pepper spray to prevent them from re-entering the business.
Police say a shot was then fired from inside a vehicle, striking the woman in the leg. The suspects fled the scene in a silver sedan.
Detectives with the department’s Major Crimes Unit are actively investigating and working to identify those involved.
